QUOTE (BearSox @ May 23, 2009 -> 09:30 PM) Beat the no. 5 ranked overall player in MLB the Show today. The guy sucked. Probably just did nothing but play crappy opponents and racked up W's. I was the #19 player in MLB '08. It's possible to get beaten by a s*** player every once and awhile. Not saying you're s***, but the top players do have bad games here and there.

Server: irc.wyldryde.org Channel: #SoxTalk.com (irc://irc.wyldryde.org/SoxTalk.com) EDIT: If you use Pidgin as your IM client and want to set it up to run this IRC chatroom, PM me and I'll give you instructions. QUOTE (Cubano @ May 22, 2009 -> 04:17 PM) In case you follow boxing, there will be some cubans boxer tonight. None in the main event but you may see Rigondeaux and Lara probably in the first two bouts. They should fight for a title at some point. A bunch of cubans have defected in the past few years. I don't have cable, but I'm going to try to find this online.

QUOTE (Nixon @ May 22, 2009 -> 04:59 AM) Man. Heavy Rain looks terrible. Not graphically.. I mean gameplay wise. And by that I mean there looks like there is no gameplay at all besides QTEs and walking to the next QTE in a tiny environment. OH BUT LOOK A "GIANT" CLUB! Uhhh... yeah. Agreed. Man, I thought I was the only one who thought this. I mean, so you can change the outcome of the storyline, but f***, I'm not going to pay $60 to watch an animated movie. I'm just not.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ May 21, 2009 -> 10:02 PM) Reading Angels and Demons. Don't care what anyone says, it isn't as good as The Da Vinci Code. I honestly didn't think there was anything as bad as the Da Vinci Code. ...Huh.

QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ May 21, 2009 -> 03:44 PM) I don't, really. What I remember most about you is when you used to have that avatar a long time ago, from a movie, of a woman having her eye slit open with a knife. If it is the movie I'm thinking of, it was actually a goat's eye that was slit open (portrayed as a woman's.) And it was still in the goat, and the goat was still alive.

QUOTE (kyyle23 @ May 21, 2009 -> 01:52 PM) My best friend has been a bathroom reader since he was a kid, and one time he just starts spouting off all of these random facts, and I asked him where he got it from, it turns out he was reading a book called "The Bathroom Book" which is full of random stories and facts. lol Hah. My mom had that in our bathroom.

QUOTE (qwerty @ May 21, 2009 -> 12:51 PM) Is the chat disabled? I put together a new one and sent it to Jason. Didn't know he'd take the old one down this soon.

I read on the toilet. There have been entire books I've read on the toilet. I always keep one in there to read.

QUOTE (NIUSox @ May 20, 2009 -> 08:51 PM) Maybe the best book cover I've ever seen. Never so happy to see Lincoln get his head blown off.

Whoever pinned all these threads, you're great. This is hilarious.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ May 20, 2009 -> 04:29 PM) Disagree. 90% of games are for each platform, so it does little to hype the 5-6 exclusives it has (which it does btw, quite a lot, especially MLB The Show and Metal Gear when it was new). Sony's biggest problem wasn't the cost, it was that the 360 had been established for over a year. Most of my friends went ahead and got the 360 because they figured they'd eventually get both. Then when the ps3 came out they had no reason to rush out and buy it. The exclusives were non-existent at launch and really are just now really coming out. They hype them better now, sure. But when the system was first released? Pre-released? Not at all. Some probably even thought it wasn't a video game console. It was a big mistake.

Unpinned? Interesting.

QUOTE (Kid Gleason @ May 20, 2009 -> 03:26 PM) Just joined Good Reads. So far I actually think I prefer it to Library Thing. The layout is quite easy on the eyes. I'll probably join that too. I do like LibraryThing though. The recommendations are pretty good aside from recommending what I've already read, but don't own--but what can they do about that?

QUOTE (Kid Gleason @ May 20, 2009 -> 12:03 PM) I think you can see it like that. I opened a profile and started my list: http://www.librarything.com/profile/BobDylanRH

QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ May 19, 2009 -> 12:15 PM) Its down to $399. I dont get it. You are getting by far the most advanced and sophisticated gaming system, blu-ray player capabilities, internet search ability, PS store, music/video/picture storage etc...And, they are finally carrying some good exclusive series as well. Maybe it's the economy or X-Box fanboys refusing to make a switch or the Wii carving out a larger niche than expected, but I bought my PS3 when it was still $599 and I don't regret it for a second. It comes down to poor marketing, if you ask me. I'm not going to buy a video game system based on the fact that it has an SD slot, or a blu-ray player or some other s***. (You can probably quote me saying otherwise earlier in this thread.) If you want that, buy a computer. I buy my systems for games. Sony did an awful job marketing its game line-up, and still does. They wanna sell systems? Hype the f***ing games, not the fact that it is a s***ty computer. It's a damn shame because it IS nice to have those extra features, and the system IS the best on the market, they just happened to forget that it is a video game console.

QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ May 20, 2009 -> 09:10 AM) Currently rereading Beer: A History of Suds and Civilization From Mesopotamia to Microbreweries by Gregg Smith. I had to Travel to Philly the other week and there is so much colonial and Industrial Age brewing history there that I pulled of off the shelf to read while sipping hand-blended Cantillon gueuze lambic at Monk's cafe which is officially the best beer bar I've ever been to. I haven't read it, but you might enjoy B is for Beer. Tom Robbins is pretty fun.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 20, 2009 -> 08:44 AM) Here's a seperate question. Name an author who you like that you'd call a guilty pleasure. Something you know is not great literature, but you just enjoy it anyway. I'll throw one out there: Tony Hillerman I'm always slightly embarrassed when somebody catches me reading Stephen King. I don't know why, there really is no reason to be.
-
I'll throw out another question. What was the last book you read? And what'd you think? The last one I read was The Trial by Franz Kafka. It's not the first time I've read it, but it's one I've always enjoyed (that's not the right word for a story like this, but whatever). It's an unfinished novel, but there is more than enough inside it to gain an understanding. It starts with a man, a bank teller, being arrested at his home, but they won't tell him why. Eventually, they leave, and he is left at home. Then it gets bizarre. If you've read any Kafka, I'm sure you know how it ends, and you've probably, in fact, read it already. It is not an encouraging story. It is very dark, but is actually pretty funny in absurd ways. Anyone into existentialism, this story is a must read.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 20, 2009 -> 09:44 AM) Last few years, I've read more non-fiction than fiction. Anyone else read any substantial amount of non-fiction, particularly history-related books? No, but I know people who do if you're looking for recommendations.

I'm going to make it my f***ing mission to make this tread work. Reading: The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay right now. So far it sucks, but the author writes beautifully.

QUOTE (santo=dorf @ May 19, 2009 -> 06:39 PM) The devil put that there to trick us. Don't ask me to provide any scientific proof to support that. It seems more likely that God would put it there to trick us, not Satan, but that's a whole can of worms I don't want to open.
