QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 31, 2009 -> 09:01 PM) It appears the jackasses around here are the people who were saying I was crazy all July for saying we should be in sell mode. You all were proven wrong, but I enjoy the fact you are reverting to personal attacks rather than admitting it. Great example to set as a moderator. Out of hiding for this one. He's not saying anything about whether or not the pieces on this team are good enough to make a run. He's explaining why it is bad business to sell early while so close in a division race. That's evident in his comparison to the white flag trade. Nobody cares if you predicted this team would fall apart - it doesn't make you look smart. Jackass is the proper term here, because that's what you look like.

I put the chat room back up on my server. Same link: http://mike.westernave.net/chat/chatroom.html Enjoy chat crew.

I'm going to pop in real quick and explain this. The IRC chatroom I set up doesn't need to be on the SoxTalk server for it to work. Never needed to be. Never will. As Felix pointed out, it is in working condition right now. I feel like I'm talking to a f***ing brick wall at this point, but the only thing that needs to go on the SoxTalk server are the files I sent Jason. They are files that set-up a small applet around the IRC room that is hosted somewhere completely different (irc.wyldryde.org is the server) that make an otherwise difficult chat room easy to use. It's not rocket science. If somebody that can put the files on the server wants them, let me know. Otherwise, the incompetence act is really f***ing old.

QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Jul 28, 2009 -> 09:45 AM) The attack was sourced from img.4chan.org, which is the same IP that houses www.4chan.org. This is why it got blocked. And I hate to break it to you, but this is normal operating procedure to deal with attacks on the internet, especially DoS attacks. Someone sends an abuse request to the ISP, they investigate, and then take the node offline if there is evidence of malicious behavior. If I started to attack one of my competitors, my ISP would probably take me offline temporarily, contact me as the abuse contact to investigate my site for evidence of compromise or to eliminate the threat. Once this happened, they would bring my connection back up online. Hell, when we got an IP address block from one of our ISPs, the previous owners of the block were on a blacklist and we couldnt get ourselves off of it. We had to change IP addresses so we could operate on the internet properly. And yes a single person, or a few banded together that does something stupid can affect you and your company and your website. Their DNS records for 4chan img.4chan.org. 0 IN A 208.69.36.130 www.4chan.org. 0 IN A 208.69.36.130 You seem to be missing my point. Fair enough.

QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Jul 27, 2009 -> 11:27 PM) If the site is launching a DoS attack, its beyond just a group getting together as a social site for a common cause. It doesn't matter that they target a specific company or people. When they fling packets into the dark abyss, everything on its path is affected. That affects other companies as well as other entities. Internet traffic for the most part, passes from ISP to ISP via peering agreements. So when they wind up and throw their packets to the wind at ISP B, they might traverse 3 ISP hops and affect the transit routers and other customers as well. I don't give a s*** what a DoS attack is. Blocking the site, which didn't do the DoS attack itself (as far as I know), doesn't solve the issue, does it? You just don't go around and punish people who have AT&T internet because a few people banded together and did something stupid. That's ridiculous. It's an ugly path they're walking down and I'd hate to see other companies follow them. Thankfully it appears that AT&T only temporarily blocked the site.

QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Jul 27, 2009 -> 09:05 AM) f*** Net Neutrality. Any site that is either affiliated or responsible for hacking/malware/phishing/crap should be blocked. And 4Chan's pub makes them more scary than they really are. A Russian Botnet, or Chinese malware with a vm kicker is a hell of a lot more scary than some mopes dressing up and protesting who use a social engineering attack on another mope who ran for VP. That's not really what 4chan is. It's just something that they happened to do. They don't claim to be scary in any regard, nor do they make it a habit to target companies or specific people. It's just a showing of what a large social site can do when they all group together. Reddit.com has pulled some tricks of the same ilk.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 21, 2009 -> 12:39 PM) All true, except that ALSO, some books have too much going on to really fit into a normal length movie. Any of Clancy's books come to mind, only one of which was made into a decent film (Red October), and that still was missing huge plot lines, major characters, etc. Well, the 'normal length movie' came from 'research' via Hollywood. People sat through the Lord of the Rings movies just fine. I tend to believe less that 1.5 hours is the cut-off for the regular movie-goers attention span and more that the business side, again, doesn't want to pony up the extra budget money, and/or that there just isn't enough directing talent out there to make a good 3, 4, 5 hour movie that people won't mind sitting through. But certainly, it is possibly to alter storylines and characters and walk away with something nice.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 20, 2009 -> 04:24 PM) I've always found that evaluating this sort of film based on "What was left out from the book version" always, always makes the film look worse. Special efforts should be taken to try to evaluate those sorts of movies based on the quality of the film itself, because otherwise you're always left wanting. The only way to turn that much literature in to live action would be probably a 20 hour miniseries on television. Not really. I haven't seen/read any of the Harry Potter series, so I'm not going to comment on that specifically. Certain books are impossible to portray on screen well. Lolita comes to mind. In cases of these books, well, the audience is s*** out of luck unless they read the book. These books are rare. Adapting from text to screen is a simple process. Where it gets ruined is generally in the business side of things. I imagine if Hollywood was less worried about how much of a cash cow their movie is, they'd sacrifice less creativity to cater to a focus group and concentrate more on making a good film. That said, filmmaking and writing are two different arts. A certain amount of the story is bound to be lost in translation, but that doesn't mean we need to cut out big, important chunks of a story to 'make it work' -- in cases like this, Hollywood should be required to open the film with: "Based on the Harry Potter novels."

QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Jul 19, 2009 -> 11:27 AM) It's obviously an achievement to land on the moon, but really, what impact did that have on us, except for the phrase "we land on the moon but we cant (insert thing that hasn't been done)?" Society didn't change at all. If there were such a thing as an impact on society, I'd believe landing on the moon would make Americans even more arrogant. As far as The Beatles, they had other, better albums (I believe) than Abbey Road. Sergeant Peppers, for one. Wal Mart has had a much larger impact on lives than the Beatles or the moon landing. Considering that part of the path to landing on the moon was the introduction to satellites, I'd say that the moon landing had a far greater impact than Wal-Mart or a music album. Also, the moon landing continues to contribute to the future. Wal-Mart? Hardly.

I'm already a ceritifed armed security officer. Mighta made that % too big cause I got a looong ways to go. But so far, good step. And if anybody tries to f*** with me, me and my 100% gun accuracy will take care of your ass. B.B. gun doesn't count, b****.

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jul 17, 2009 -> 07:12 PM) Dan Haren put up a 3.07 ERA pitching for the A's in 2007, his ERA away from Oakland: 3.34. Oh and Arizona's home ballpark has played as a hitter's park the past 2 seasons. It's hardly surprising that a starting pitcher would be more comfortable pitching in his home ballpark. Hell the last time Johan Santana won a Cy Young his road ERA was higher than Haren's '07 number. STFU

QUOTE (Texsox @ Jul 6, 2009 -> 06:57 AM) I know it is a circular thing, but Manny is much better known, and that gets viewers. He is a loud, outgoing personality. If your paycheck depended on viewers, who would you put on Sportscenter? If it pissed people off as much as they claim, they'd shut their T.V. off and force them to show what they claim to have.
