Wannstedt To Resign Tomorrow
redandwhite replied to AddisonStSox's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Only a few years too late. -
I go to Cape Cod every year, and the place I always stay at in the Cape is closest to the home of the YD Red Sox. I have been going all of my life, but for the last 6 or 7 years I have really grown attached to the league and actually remember thing vividly. Well anyways, I saw Wes play 4-5 times that year and in every game the kid looked like he had the potential to be a 30-40 homer guy in the majors. His swing was so perfect, and I remember sitting next to scouts that were drooling over this kids bat. How valuable would a player that can be both a situational lefty out of the bullpen and a pinch hitter off the bench.

No.

Just turned 17, yes, I'm a teenager. Although its a nonfactor because I am here to discuss baseball in a manner that is deemed civilized where your here contributing nothing but some eight year old "bazillion" jokes and sparking arguments that have been solved multiple times.
-
Not at all, but when every thread gets hijacked with the same old s***, its what sadly has to happen.
-
Your relying on teenaged idiots who dont know there ass from there hand like i've stated many times. Your just going to have to go through every page and seperate the good from the bad. Sorry bud.
-
I'm sorry for the typo, I meant different.

I'm glad you brought it up. Dan Duquette made some moves as General Manager of the Red Sox that I did not agree with in a time where money was an object and contracts were as high as ever. The fact is, the price for Manny Ramirez was 20 million dollars per year, in fact with the deferred money's the Red Sox payed less for Manny's services than the Indians had offered him. My point is this. There is no player on the Red Sox making a fourth of the payroll, nor would Theo Epstein ever stand for that. It is depth that won the World Series for this 2004 Red Sox team. It was Dave Roberts stealing second base in game four of the ALCS. It was Derek Lowe who stepped up big on numerous occassions. It was Kapler, Minky, Reese, and Mirabelli all making big plays at big times off the bench. Adding Randy Johnson doesn't do to this White Sox team what Curt Schilling did to the Red Sox. The Red Sox were a Curt Schilling away, the White Sox are not. Period.
-
Sure its easier, but your acting like its a walk in the f***ing park to win a World Series which is so far from the truth I think im going to throw up. You need to grow up, and realize that yes, having a 100 million dollar payroll is different than having an 80 million dollar payroll. Different, not easier.
-
If the Red Sox could go out and get Randy Johnson then surely they'd be able to pay to resign Varitek, Cabrera, Martinez, and Lowe.. right? :rolly
-
Oh please. Haha. No one asked for the peanut gallery to chime in. The jealousy is pathetic. The fans who actually know a thing or two about the game should be embarrassed.
-
If the Red Sox had anywhere close to 200 million dollars, I am sure they would to.
-
For 100,000 grand, i'd do anything.
-
The White Sox can't afford a starter for five per, and a reliever for two-three per tops but can afford adding the highest paid pitcher in baseball. Sure the Red Sox had money, but what they did was use it wisely, something the White Sox will not be doing if they go into the 05 season with Randy Johnson making a fourth of the payroll.
-
This deal puts us even out of Julian Tavarez range. The White Sox would then rely on the Munoz', Diaz' and Grilli's out of the bullpen and some minimum salary players on the bench. While if you go after an Ortiz, a Perez, or a Morris you'll be able to have money for the proven relievers, and proven bench players. Depth. It's why the Red Sox won the World Series.
-
This team financially cannot have an 80 million dollar payroll.
-
Yup. Thank you Mr. Minaya.
-
discuss.

There are players the same age as Jon who are or will be first year players. Lets look at Garland like that.
-
were on the same page..
-
Exactly. Overlooked in all of this is that Randy Johnson is not a sixteen million dollar pitcher anymore. No one is, so im not trying to take away anything from Randy, hes just not worth it. 25% of the payroll tied up with one player. :rolly
-
Beat me to it.
-
There will be very little to no money left to spend. Johnson is due 16 million next year. Konerko is owed 8.75. I'll be generous and give Garland 4.25. That is still an increase of 3 million dollars, which to put it in perspective is Vizquel money.
-
A line-up that weak would make anyone sick to there stomach. Byrnes in the three hole, no thanks. And how all you people are saying Gload will replace Konerko with ease, I really want to know why you think that. This line-up would be lucky to place out of the last 5 worst run producing offenses in baseball.
-
Konerko being a free agent, and Garland showing no improvement is a non-issue in all of this because Randy Johnson is going to either die, retire, or become a free agent after the 2005 season aswell.
