  1. shibby!!! the ball is bouncing in our way. FINALLY!
  2. Rios has a pretty good track record vs Lester. . He's my pick to click!
  3. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Aug 25, 2009 -> 02:44 PM) Expect Getz to hit 40 points higher now. I may have asked this before, but why isn't Hriniak the hitting coach? We seem to send our guys with continual hitting problems to him, and he seems better than Walker. Also, how do you pronounce his name? I have just figured it was her-nee-ack. Hriniak is awesome. But Walker has done a solid job this year as well. OUr offense isn't the issue. Its our defense and lately its been our pitching.
  4. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 25, 2009 -> 12:57 PM) Getz Begins Rehab Assignment I'm personally super excited to get Getz back on the ball-field as I think he's a much better all-around player than Nix (which I know we've always debated), but there were some pretty good tid-bits from Mark Gonzalez piece on the rehab assignment which I liked I miss Chris Getz. I think our lineup has missed him. He does a lot of positive little things.
  5. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 25, 2009 -> 12:02 PM) Good post. I'll always follow the team as a fan. I've been addicted a long time. But this ain't our year. I would be simply stunned if we do better than 2-8 this trip. This truly is going to be the offseason where the lineup gets altered a lot. Like how?
  6. QUOTE (WCSox @ Aug 25, 2009 -> 11:46 AM) No, it shouldn't. You don't dump a veteran who dominated the playoffs and World Series for you (and not to mention recently came back several months ahead of schedule from a potentially career-ending Achilles rupture) out of spite. Under Kenny, the Sox have done much to repair this organization's bad reputation in the way that they handle veteran players. DFAing a player like Jose would be completely counter-productive, especially considering that the rosters expand soon and that he might be useful in long relief. ^^^ Ahh the most practical post of the day. When most of Soxtalk reeks of emotion, we have WCSox to smack us with that. Good post dude.
  7. QUOTE (watchtower41 @ Aug 25, 2009 -> 11:42 AM) Wow, just yesterday Levine was pointing at the Labor Day weekend series at home against Boston for the earliest possible scenrio in which they would bring Peavy up to start, and now after the brutal game yesterday, they move it up a whole week. Not sure I like the last resort efforts we are going through just to stay competitive within the AL Central race. When your in a desperate situation, you act upon desperate measures. 3.5 games back on a very tough road trip is a desperate situation. Peavy had 3 minor league starts. Thats what he was projected to have. KW wanted 4. But KW also thought we would be much closer to Detroit than we are. So yeah i am all for Peavy's return on Saturday.
  8. QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Aug 25, 2009 -> 11:17 AM) Isn't it CC and Buerhle Friday and Gaudin on Saturday? Yea im pretty sure it would be Peavy vs Gaudin. Peavy has progressed nicely in his minor league games. He's at the point now where he could throw 6-7 innings. No matter what he won't be 100% but yes a 70-85% Peavy is much better than what Contreras has provided us this season. We are at the point of the season where we can no longer 'hope' Jose finally gets it back. We are 3.5 games back, they are on a very tough road trip and there are only 37 games left. I'm looking forward to Peavy!!
  9. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 25, 2009 -> 09:57 AM) Off topic but I have no idea why guys like that girl in your sig. She's hideous and about 3 years from being overweight. lol how do you know that?
  10. Its so much better. . when everybodys in. . are you in? IM IN!!
  11. QUOTE (RME JICO @ Aug 23, 2009 -> 06:08 PM) 4 out of our last 5 losses have been by one run. I don't know if that is a good sign or bad sign. Thats a very bad sign. We need to start winning the close games. Also the 1-40 record when trailing after 8 is a very discouraging stat as well.
  12. 3-3 homestand. We've been near .500 all season long. We play like a .500 team. If that wins the division, great but i highly doubt we make it this year.
  13. ah yes thats the tony pena we all know and love. this guy is garbage.
  14. 2-2 in Boston 1-2 in NY 2-1 in Minny (yes i said it) 1-0 @ Wrigley = 6-4 Detroit's next 10 games: 3 @ Angels 4 vs Tampa 3 vs Cleveland. (playing decent ball) It will be important for the Sox to remian close during this road trip because after these next 10 games, Detroit closes the season playing 20 out of 29 games vs teams under .500. While the Sox play 16 out of 27 games vs teams over .500.
  15. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 21, 2009 -> 06:01 PM) If you're Freidman, would you really take two years of Bobby Jenks at $8 million and $10 million...knowing he's not close to the same pitcher he was from 2005-2006, and swap him for the most identifiable and popular Rays' player over the last five years? Isn't the point with retaining Crawford the high price tag?? How would bringing in a pitcher with a questionable future and ALMOST as high a salary benefit them? I think they would be much more likely to want us to take Burrell off their hands for Jenks. No way, and no way do you trade an everyday LF/CFer with leadoff capabilities for a closer. Never. I was just throwing an example out there. Is it highly unlikely yes. Will Tampa trade Crawford this offseason? Its definitley a posibility. If Friedman could shed 11 million and restock there farm and depth to their already impressive young core than i could see it happening. I threw Jenks in there as an example of KW's ability to wheel and deal.
  16. I know KW really likes Figgins. I think he'll definitley look into him this offseason. However, lets not look past KW and his trading expertise. Carl Crawford may be available via trade this winter and KW might be willing to offer some young talent to bring him over. I know Tampa also may be looking to improve their pen. A trade with a package centered around Bobby Jenks perhaps? Just thinking outside the box, something KW loves doing.
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 17, 2009 -> 09:49 PM) So Kal, how is our full year payroll projected to be at this point, with the inclusions of Peavy and Rios? With the additions of Rios and Peavy and arbatration for guys like Danks, Jenks and CQ the Sox total commited payroll will be around ~90 million W/O Rios, Peavy, Danks, CQ and Jenks the payroll would be: 45 million 45 million + 15 million (Peavy) + 9.7 million (Rios) + ~7 million (Jenks)+ ~5.5 million (Danks) + ~7 million (CQ) + 1 million (Carrasco) = ~90 million. I'm guessing Reiny wants to be around 100-105 million in payroll. He knows KW is building for a strong run in 2010 so 105 million is not out of the question. This will give KW about 10-15 million to spend on free agency. However, lets not count out trades. Jenks may be a strong trade candidate this winter.
  18. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 19, 2009 -> 03:26 PM) If Jose can beat Greinke, maybe Snell can beat Verlander???? Go Mariners! This was a must win! Just when everyone writes him off he always somehow throws a a game like this to give us hope. . rather that hope is false or not, its too early to tell but a win is a win. Go Mariners!
  19. QUOTE (b-Rye @ Aug 18, 2009 -> 10:26 PM) Tonights the 22nd one of the season. versus how many 1 run wins? I'm curious on that one.
  20. I know there are a lot of Freddy haters on this board but i was at the game last night, and he didn't look too bad. He made a few mistakes that costed him the game but he showed me that he still has a decent arsenal and that he can compete. He is a much better option than Contreras IMO. Tonights game will be huge for Contreras as he now has literally no room for error. He absolutely needs to pitch well tonight or Freddy will likely take his spot the rest of the way.
