  1. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Aug 1, 2009 -> 11:30 PM) Jerry Reinsdorf had an interesting quite in an ESPN piece about the Peavy trade. This could just be something he threw out in passing, or just not as interesting as I’m making it out to be. "With Buehrle, Danks, Floyd and Peavy -- that's as good a four starters as you are going to see in baseball, probably," Reinsdorf said. "I'm sure we'll get a fifth starter to go along with them.” http://sports.espn.go.com/chicago/news/story?id=4370522. Does this point to a move this year? Or simply the end of the Contreras ERA after this year, as many of us have predicted? I’m going with the former, right now. Interesting quote. I'm sure JR is refering to solidifying this already impressive rotation via free agency in the offseason. I highly doubt Contreras comes back next year. Lackey, Webb and Harden are the top 3 starting pitchers via free agency. Honestly i would much rather spend money on an outfielder than spend another 10+ million on a SP. Then again KW always seems to have a few tricks up his sleeve. . . perhaps making a deal with a team to aqcuire a young cheap starter like Zach Duke, Ross Ohlendorf or Johnny Cueto,
  2. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 03:57 PM) This deal isn't for this year, just remember that. When the Sox want to start making the transition, having this big four to build around is going to make things a hell of alot easier. Makes things a lot easier for free agents as well. If I'm Carl Crawford or Chone Figgins, the White Sox would definitley have to be on top of my list.
  3. Hey Kalapse, Can we get an updated version of your payroll spreadsheet? Thank you!
  4. QUOTE (tommy @ Aug 1, 2009 -> 06:48 PM) Nix is not an everyday player, and he is a 2B. If we make Dye our DH (discount, new deal) and keep our infield the same which I think we should, it opens up two outfield spots, with Carlos being LF or RF. Find someone that can leadoff and play CF (assuming Pods is gone). Crawford CF Beckham 3B Quentin RF/LF Dye DH Konerko 1B Pierzynski C Ramirez SS Danks2 RF/LF Getz 2B Rotation is already set. How is that for a lineup. This is the exact lineup i've been wanting for next year! Except for the 5th spot. I would like KW to let a veteran or young pitcher earn this spot via ST. Torres perhaps. .
  5. Somewhere on this board i said "Am i the only one who wished that Peavy deal went through" And sure enough. . . . Awesome. KW is amazing. He has guts!! Our rotation is set for the next 2+ seasons! Buerhle, Peavy, Danks, Floyd. . are you serious!! I cant wait until the end of August!!!!!
  6. QUOTE (BearSox @ Jul 30, 2009 -> 04:23 PM) I'd definitely do the proposed deal you mentioned Gage. A 2010 rotation of Buehrle, Halladay, Danks, Floyd, and a rookie in the 5 spot is pretty damn solid. However, I still feel we need more offensive help this year to compete. I'd do a deal for halladay as long as Rolen comes with him. This team lacks defense and Rolen is solid both offensively and defensively. If you think about it, the Sox would still be in great shape after 2010 since Rolen, AJ, Konerko, and Halladay would be off the books. IMO this deal wouldn't hurt our youth movement and it would let us compete for a title for this year and next.
  7. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 06:35 PM) I just want to see Tim Linecum in the playoffs. What the hell do I care if the Giants overpaid for Sanchez? Just get that man to the postseason! Matt Cain's been pretty stellar as well. Should be fun to see how their young pitchers do in the post season.
  8. The Giants were desperate for offense. Freddy Sanchez is a solid hitter and will improve that lineup. This is a good move for the Pirates because they aren't throwing in money and they get a hell of a prospect. The Pirates are really putting together some outstanding depth in their farm system. I'd say this is a good trade for both teams, but the edge has to go to Pittsburgh.
  9. Ahhh The Wheeling and Dealing begins. . . *Looks like SF will pick up Freddy Sanchez. *I'm suprised Seattle made this move being 7.5 games back. *The Phillies did the right thing by going for the 'next option' in Cliff Lee. *Looks like the Blue Jays aren't getting the true package they wanted after all. In fact Ricardi better sell now before the other teams in the bidding look elsewere as well. *I still don't know what the hell KW is going to do if anything?
  10. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 10:23 AM) The DBacks have already insisted they are not willing to move Haren, because he is part of their core. GMs say that crap all the time. But once they get a phone call with something they can't turn down, you could throw the 'untradeable' tag out the window. . . If KW really wants Haren- he could get him IMO.
  11. QUOTE (beck72 @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 09:51 AM) A young SP, someone who can throw in the 2010 rotation, would likely only be available in the offseason. And then for a major league player, not a prospect. The sox aren't going to trade a starting position player this year. I do like the idea of trading Alexei, say to the Red Sox for one/ two of their young arms. If the Red Sox are desperate for a SS, I wonder how much more than Alexie it would take to aqcuire Clay Bucholz?
  12. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 28, 2009 -> 02:36 PM) Oh absolutely. If they were really intelligent, they would move him NOW. He is in the midst of his best season since 2006, and I have a very hard time believing they will be able to keep him in Tampa after next season. Unfortunately, the price would be prohibitive for most contending teams. Tampa is going to want back a big bat and a front end arm, and the only way that happens is from a non-contending team such as the Indians. However, I suppose it would be possible to trade Tampa the prospects the Indians want, and then they move them to the Indians for VMart and Lee. All seems a bit too complicated to me... I would offer Poreda, Richard and a PTBNL (Viciedo) for Crawford. Tampa could take those guys and ship them off in their own mega package to Cleveland for Lee and VMart. We could use Alexie as bait to acquire a young starting pitcher. I'm definitley hoping KW gets creative in the next day and a half. . But i would be ecstatic if we aqcuired Crawford and a young starting pitcher.
  13. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 28, 2009 -> 06:02 PM) My prediction is we're going to see Fields and a big prospect like Hudson sent to Baltimore for Sherrill, and it wouldn't surprise me if KW expands the deal to include someone like Scott or Huff. thats a decent prediction. . i know baltamore has been interested in Fields in the past. . .
  14. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 28, 2009 -> 06:01 PM) MDGonzales: Williams said he spoke to Josh Fields and his agent about Fields' future. Sounds like Fields could be next to go Sounds like the guy is going to be traded.
  15. QUOTE (tommy @ Jul 28, 2009 -> 05:13 PM) Brian Anderson for Mark Kotsay! Oh wait.. I believe Kenny has something up his sleeve, a trade will happen before deadline. I'm at the point now that i dont expect very much to happen.
  16. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 28, 2009 -> 05:47 PM) Shouldn't he be in Minnesota with the team Wednesday? Thank you! Just woke up from my nap haha. Tells you how bored i am of KW and his lack of moves.
  17. Richard to pen. Fields to be sent down or traded. Kotsay will be in Minny with the team on wednesday. per Cowley. Colon to Rotation; Richard to Pen; Fields to AAA By Jason Gage SoxNet Joe Cowley is reporting that the White Sox will make room for newly acquired 1B/OF Mark Kotsay on the 25 man roster by sending 1B/3B Josh Fields to AAA Charlotte. The move won't be made official until Wednesday, which is when...More at the Link
  18. I still believe KW is going to bring over a starting pitcher. It won't be Halladay. It may not even be Haren. But I do believe he'll bring someone over that will bolster our rotation. I could also see him adding depth to the pen. But i really don't see him adding an offensive piece.
  19. While we are on this topic, what free agents to be do you want KW to pursue? Assuming we will have the financial flexibility we all think we are going to have. 2010 starting lineup currently under contract C AJ 1B Konerko 2B Getz SS Ramirez 3B Beckham LF Quentin CF ????? RF ????? DH ???? Rotation: Buerhle, Danks, Floyd, ???, ??? Bullpen: Jenks, Thorton, Pena, Linebrink, Richard, Carrasco I'm guessing we will have around 30-40 million to spend on free agents to fill in those question marks. What guys do you want via free agency? I would do whatever it takes to brng Carl Crawford over. If Tampa takes the 10 million club option on him, many believe they would trade him for prospects. If Tampa can't afford the option, i would offer him a 5 year 12-13 mill/ season. I would plug him into RF since he's a better athlete than CQ. For CF i would bring up Jordan Danks. Lets see what the kid can do. For DH i would like to bring Dye back. A 3 year 7 mill/ season would most likely work. What this team really needs is a top of the rotation righty who can eat up innings. Supposely KW is going after that right now. But if fails to acquire someone by the trade deadline, i would look into John Lackey. Due to his injuries the past few years, we may be able to get him for cheap. Thats a lineup of: Carl Crawford RF Alexie Ramirez SS Jermiane Dye DH Paul Konerko 1B Carlos Quentin LF Gordon Beckham 3B AJ Pierzynski C Chris Getz 2B Jordan Danks CF Not too shabby nor not too expensive.
  20. QUOTE (joeynach @ Jul 26, 2009 -> 12:18 PM) I think out of necissity we dont lose dotel. Plus he seems headed to be a type a free agent so we would get a draft pick for losing him at the end of the year. yeppo! He has been one of our more 'reliable' relievers this season. I think Ozzie and KW would regret losing him. Linebrink on the other hand. . . .
  21. I was impressed the way we played the Rays. Im actually impressed with our starting pitching during this Detroit series as well. Honeslty our offense really hasn't come up with a big hit when needed and our pen seems to be in its dead arm stage. We reached this point last year at the same time im pretty sure. Many analysts seem to be favoring the Sox recently. Yesterday Mark Grace and Chris Rose said they like the Sox as well. Some good signs: *We are playing better at home. (7-3 in the month of July) *The Twins seem to be stumbling a bit also and we face off with them next. (Lost 4 in a row) *Beckham and Pods continue to impress. Some bad signs: *The Tigers have a ton of momentum after taking the first 3. The last thing we need is for them to get hot during the toughest stretch of the season. *We play in the metrodome next. We all know that place is the house of horrors and the Sox suck there. *Bobby Jenks is losing all of his confidence. Thats the last thing we need in a pennant race.
  22. Dan Haren is an ACE. If you trade Floyd for him and throw in a Poreda and 2 other mid-level prospects, you would have to think Arizona would consider it. The Sox would be set up for the next 2.5 seasons with Buerhle, Haren, Danks as your top 3 starters. Thats solid!!! You would have to make this move if your the White Sox. I'm impressed with Floyd's progress over the past 2 seasons, but we all know, you have to give up something to get something. And Haren is definitley something. In fact he is IMO the 2nd best pitcher in the NL right behind Lincecum.
  23. QUOTE (chisoxfan09 @ Jul 26, 2009 -> 03:08 AM) Yeah the other funny part (reallly funny) is that Ricciardi or Retarded is sending his demands first to some of these clubs before they even offer him a list of prospects. I was just gonna post maybe KW will try one more time to send an offer but I would rather take my chances with what we have and look elsewhere for another starter. I am starting to look at 2009 as a wash and we need to build the team for next year. That may just indeed happen after all. A lot will be decided by the 29th when the Minnesota series wraps up. But if we are 5-6 games back by July 31st, i'd say lets start unloading some of the veterans. That being said. If KW is going to make a big splash and go for it, today is a must win.
  24. Tommorow is a must win. Plain and simple. Keep it within 2 games. We have 6 more games with Detroit at the end of the year which will be huge!
  25. QUOTE (chisoxfan09 @ Jul 25, 2009 -> 01:18 PM) Not much to this but there are a couple of links on MLBTR that the White Sox are minor players on the outside. Not aggresive. Seems Phili rejected an offer that Toronto had put on the table wanting both Happ and Drabek as the center pieces of a package. If he is not traded his value goes way down at the Winter meetings as Halliday is adamant on testing Free Agency. Still no thanks but I never underestimate KW. Toronto will need to lower their asking price before they lose him for nothing in free agency.
