  1. KW knows if he gets 1 or even 2 sexy names before the deadline, attendance will boost up there. Hey KW, if you BUILD IT, WE WILL COME!
  2. I would do this trade for a few reasons. Josh Fields will be nothing more than a backup infielder on the Sox. Pie has a lot of great tools. He kind of has that Brian Anderson syndrom however when it comes to hitting. If he could figure out how to hit down in triple-a, he would be much more valuable via a trade to another team than Josh Fields would. I'm okay with Pie for Fields.
  3. QUOTE (BearSox @ Jul 7, 2009 -> 07:20 PM) LOL at what some people think it would take to get Halladay. Look at what the Twins got for Santana. The only MLB ready player that got was Gomez, and everyone knew he was extremely raw. All this talk about Floyd or Danks needing to be a part of the deal is just silly. If the Blue Jays are expecting them back in a return, they weren't serious about trading Halladay in the first place. KW is not involving Floyd or Danks in any deal. But KW has over payed for guys in the past. Guys like Todd Richie and Nick Swisher come to mind. With the latest statement coming from KW, it looks like were not adding anything significant this season.
  4. QUOTE (BearSox @ Jul 7, 2009 -> 12:19 PM) Rolen has 1 more year left on his deal for 11 million. We'd either have to get some cash in return or get the Blue Jays to take on one of our bad contracts, and the only one that comes to mind is Linebrink. Seems doable since Contreras, Dye, Thome and Dotel are off the books next season. (However, i still think Dye will be brought back next season for less to be our new DH) After Next season you would then have Rolen, Konerko and AJ potentially coming off the books. So even if we do trade Poreda, Getz, Flowers, Allen etc. . we are still getting younger as Viciedo and Danks should be ready by no later than 2011. We still have the capability of getting younger on the fly. I could totally see a 2011 team being this: Figgins LF (Signs to a 3 year deal this offseason) Beckham 2B Dye DH CQ RF Konerko 1B(resigns for a resonable deal to end his career with the Sox) Ramirez SS AJ C (re-signs to a 3 year deal, lets face it- we are the only team that loves him) Viciedo 3B Danks CF
  5. What's Rolen's contract situation? I honestly wouldn't mind having Rolen around the next few seasons. Try to make a deal, sign Roy to an extension, keep one of Richard or Poreda (probably Richard) and our rotation is set for the next 3 seasons. Poreda, Fields, Getz, Flowers, and Allen for Holiday and Rolen. Your 2009 White Sox: Pods, Ramirez, Dye, Thome, Konerko, AJ, CQ, Rolen, Beckham Buerhle, Holiday, Danks, Floyd, Contreras (Richard goes back as a long reliever/spot starter until 2010 when he replaces Contreras)
  6. Thats when KW hangs up the phone. . .
  7. Rosenthal pretty much thinks Roy is gone He mentions teams like the Yankees, Red Sox, Phillies, Cubs, Dodgers, Angels, White Sox, Brewers, Mets, Rangers and Braves being teams interested. Teams who have the most ammo to aqcuire him are the White Sox, Angels and Mets. Obviously the White Sox package would be centered around Aaron Poreda. Were likely looking at Poreda, Richard, Flowers, and Getz as they are looking for MLB ready talent. The Mets would have to give up Fernando Martinez along with others. . many think they will be too reluctant to give up their best prospect for another expensive pitcher. The Angels have an influx of middle infielding talent. It didn't impress the Dbacks enough to pry away Dan Haren. However, it may for Halladay as he only has 1.5 years remaining on his deal. The question is. How much are you willing to give up for 1.5 years of services? Like i said before, if he signs an extension after a deal than i would be all for it.
  8. Obviously Haren 'is not' available. But he is indeed the guy you make available. He's the guy you mortgage your future for. Not only is he an ACE, but he is AL proven, he is only 28 years old and he in under contract until at least 2012. Three plus year of Haren, Buerhle, Floyd and Danks makes me happy!
  9. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 4, 2009 -> 03:37 PM) Halladay's deal doesn't make sense for where this organization is at. Considering the astronomical deal he'll get after next year, I'd rather pass. Honestly i would offer the same package + some for Haren before anyone else first. Even if it takes Flowers, Poreda, Richard and even Getz + more- you do it. As far as Doc Holiday goes, if we were that one piece away from winning it next year, that is the time i'd make that deal. This year is doesn't make much sense, unless they are looking into filling the rest of the puzzle this winter- making 2010 the one year to make a run at it. I would much rather have a run at it for 3+ years with Haren in our rotation.
  10. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 4, 2009 -> 03:32 PM) You just have to remember that Halladay is 32 and is only signed for 1.5 more years. You can't offer the same quality of deal that you offered for Peavy given the contract and age differences. Exactly. One of Richard or Poreda would have to stay. Especially if you throw in a Flowers or an Allen.
  11. Honestly i'm okay with Getz at 2b. I really wanted Freddy Sanchez a couple of weeks ago when Getz was struggling pretty bad, but ever since the Sox brought up Beckham- Getz has really picked up his game. I read somewhere that Getz and Beckham are students of the game and spend a lot of time watching tape and studying opposing pitching- something rare for very young players. We get Quentin back after ASB if all goes well. That should be the best addition to an already solid lineup. As far as making a deal goes, a top of the rotation pitcher is what the doctor ordered. I'm not sure if KW will do such a thing, but damn our rotation would be stellar with one more top of the rotation guy.
  12. Niiiiiiceee When he comes up, insert him in the 7 hole until he's officially himself again. Pods, Alexei, Dye, Thome, Konerko, AJ, TCQ, Bacon, Getz SHIBBY!
  13. BA isn't going anywhere this year. With Pods health history, CQ's current injury situation, and Dye needing his rest here and there, we will need BA and Wise the rest of the way. But yea, i could see him being dealt in the offseason. Maybe to a team like Washington, Colorodo, San Diego, or Pittsburgh. Unless we add another SP, i dont see KW making any significant moves with the way we are currently playing ball. Apparantly Minnesota is making a push for Freddy Sanchez.. . I would love KW to pick him up, but Chris Getz seems to be getting more and more comfortable playing at the MLB level. Its gotta be the bacon!
  14. QUOTE (BearSox @ Jun 30, 2009 -> 01:40 PM) I wouldn't mind going after Lackey, even though he is having a rough year. If we could get him on a somewhat cheap 2 year contract, I'd love that. Also, if he does wind up having a rough overall season, he might prefer to take a short term offer to get his value back up, as well as the economy to hopefully get in a better place so he can get a big contract. He's got a bit of an injury concern with him though. I wouldn't mind Lackey either. Like a 1 year deal with tons of incentives and a mutual option for a second year. He would be a perfect #5 starter. As far as solidifying the top of the rotation, i still believe KW wants that right handed ace. I would definitley go after Holiday but only if he signs an extension. I wouldn't want to give up Poreda and Richard for 1.5 years of services. If you could do a trade and have him sign an extension (similar to the Freddy Garcia deal) i'm all for it! I'd much rather give up a little more and bring in Haren. Apparently the Angels already placed an offer for Haren and the AZ rejected it. Byrnes has said "he would need to be blown away" to deal away their team's ace. What would your mega package be?
  15. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 1, 2009 -> 01:38 AM) ha, get it, Blockbuster, and it was a blockbuster trade. I love myself. Gavin Floyd still rocks my bod. Kinda interesting that Miguel Olivo and Jeremy Reed netted us Freddy Garcia who helped the White Sox win a championship, who netted us Gavin Floyd who could in fact help us net ANOTHER championship. Good work on that one KW!
  16. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 1, 2009 -> 01:43 AM) FWIW, Arizona said they aren't dealing Haren unless they are absolutely blown away. I wonder what the Angels were offering? AZ should be in rebuilding mode and could get an aweful lot by trading Haren. But I guess its similar to our 2007 season when KW opted not to trade Buerhle during the teams worst season of this decade.
  17. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 30, 2009 -> 10:59 AM) I remember JD started out really slowly in 2005. Tim Raines had one season where he was under .200 into mid-May when he was expected to be one of our best players, then turned it around. Juan Uribe the first two months of 2004 was incredible, hitting around 400+ most of that time. Of course, Contreras (05-06) and Loaiza (2003) also come to mind from a pitching standpoint, in terms of their dominance seemingly coming out of nowhere. Felix Diaz beating the Cubs once at Wrigley, lol. Actually that was at the Cell, and i was there for that game Thats the same day KW aqcuired big game Freddy. That was by far one of my happiest White Sox days of this decade.
  18. QUOTE (Wanne @ Jun 29, 2009 -> 11:15 PM) I heard Gammons talking about this on BBT. He'd be somebody if you had a chance to get, you'd have to seriously look into it IMO. What's Rios' contract status?
  19. The DBacks seem to be in unloading mode. If you really want to secure that 2010 rotation and beyond, go balls out and make Byrnes a deal he can't refuse for Haren.
  20. QUOTE (Lemon_44 @ Jun 29, 2009 -> 07:09 AM) The surprising play of Pods has lessened the need for top CF. I think the Sox ride out this year with Quentin in LF, Pods in CF, and Dye in RF. If they are in it, and likley will be, the only possible moves i could see are trading for a top end of the rotation starter or maybe making another run at Brian Roberts. Getz may have a nice future, maybe not, but a guy like Roberts inserted into 2b would look awfully nice in this lineup. CF-Pods 2b-Roberts RF-Dye DH-Thome 1B-Konerko LF-Quentin C-AJ SS-Alexei 3B-Beckham that's a pretty strong lineup Last year i would have loved Roberts, but he just signed a 4 year deal i believe and he is in his 30's. I think Freddy Sanchez makes a lot more sense, he has an 8 million option for 2010 and then he is a free agent. You figure guys like Konerko and AJ will be free agents after 2010 also, so adding another veteran to the mix short term wouldn't hurt the youth movement at all. Out of our new young core (Beckham, CQ, Ramirez, Floyd, Danks and Getz) I think Getz is the one expendable guy. Sanchez makes too much sense for our lineup. .
  21. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 28, 2009 -> 05:02 PM) KW is in a holding pattern until he knows more about what he can get from Quentin and what he can get from the team on the field right now that keeps showing flashes. It sounds like he's on the right track. . It looks like CQ will return after the ASB. The dude is likely going to play the remainder of the year with plantar fasciitis and in the offseason likely get it completely taken care of via surgery. Thats very good news. Lets hope he continues to make progress. If CQ does indeed come back, move him down to the 7 hole and go make a deal for Freddy Sanchez to round out our lineup. Pods CF Sanchez 2B Dye RF Thome DH Konerko 1B Ramirez SS Quentin LF Pierzynski C Beckham 3B Thats pretty scary. . . speed and a lot of power. .
  22. The Sox are swinging the bats very well and our pitching continues to do good things. They currently have the 2nd best overall ERA in the AL. If this combo continues i expect at least a 5-2 road trip vs a Cleveland team that lost a HUGE bat over the weekend and a KC team that we tend to play very well on the road. I also have a wierd feeling KW has something up his sleeve. . its been extremely quite. .
  23. The more and more I watch Alexie play SS, the more and more i realize he should be at 2B. He had better range there as well as less pressure. At 2b base he had time to do his infamous 'double clutch'. At SS there is no time for that at all! I wouldn't be mad if Alexie was back at 2B next year and Bacon was inserted into SS, leaving 3B wide open. . i heard Figgins is a free agent. . .
  24. QUOTE (chisoxfan09 @ Jun 26, 2009 -> 07:22 AM) Howdi all, glad the site is back and yes it is a vice we needed and missed. I also hit refresh quite few times. Glad to see it back. Poreda has looked really good with control and pitch placement in his first 2-3 relief appearances capped by his first win last night. His fastball last night was consistent low 90's but I did not see him rearing back for something extra. His first strike out last was actually on what appeared to be a down and in slider or off speed (Experts please correct me). It had good movement and really fooled the batter. I think the development of his secondary pitches may be one of the main reasons they brought him up (To work with Coop essentially). But from what I have seen in 4.2 innings of work (6K's/1 BB) the ration is good so far. I think he has a future but not sure if whether as a reliever or starter. I think he will eventually have better stuff than Richard and more velocity and movement on the fastball. What sayeth my fellow fans? I think Richard has done a great job due to the circumstances. He has potential to become a 3rd or 4th starter, he needs to develop more movement on his balls. Most of his ball are straight fastballs or offspeed. After the second time around, lineups will read it better and begin to hit him, thats what we have been seeing out of Richard lately. I'd say as of right now, Richard is a tremendous 2-3 inning long man/ spot starter. Give him sometime in the AFL and Spring Training to add some pitches to his arsinal with movement and he can be very good one day. Poreda looks pretty impressive so far. It looks like he has a deadly fast ball, a sinking slider and a pretty decent change up that he locates very well. I say as of right now, Poreda has more weapons than Richard. Richard is more stretched out than Poreda, but this is a great way to get AP's feet wet. Buerhle did it as well in 2000. If I could put money on it (pending if he isn't traded), i'd say Poreda makes the starting rotation out of spring training next year. He is going to be a very very good pitcher in this league for many years.
  25. If KW offers arbitration to Thome, Dye, Conteras and Dotel expect them all to accept it because of this economy. That is why if the team is out of it by the trade deadline, expect to see at least 2 out of 4 dealt with maybe even a suprise player being dealt (Jenks, Konerko etc...). KW did say "If we continue to struggle, expect there to be some pretty unpopular things being done." The one guy i never want to see leave is Buerhle and i really doubt he does.
