Sox had best returns on draft picks from 1989-1993
GreatScott82 replied to maggsmaggs's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (knightni @ Jun 8, 2009 -> 02:30 AM) The reason the Sox got so much out of their 1987-1990 drafts was that they sucked soooo bad from '86 to '89 in order to get those picks. Comiskey averaged under 4,000 people some nights while their best pitcher of 1989 won 11 games and finished under .500. 1986 - 72-90 got Jack McDowell #5 1987 - 77-85 got Robin Ventura #10 1988 - 71-90 got Frank Thomas #7 1989 - 69-92 got Alex Fernandez #4 Wow, those were some impressive picks. Hopefully we will have a nice string of picks going this time around as well. 2007- Aaron Poreda #25 2008- Gordon Beckham #8 2009- ??? #23 2010- With the way this team is playing, I could see us having a top 10 pick next year also. -
6/7 Cleveland Indians @ Chicago White Sox 1:05 CDT - CSN

This up and coming series vs Detroit will decide what direction this team takes. If we lose 3 or more games, I expect a blow up- and rightfully so. The team currently put together doesn't give me or any other Sox fan reason for hope. -
One of Fields or Getz will be traded soon. I just don't see this continuing on for an entire season. There is no way KW wants Beckham on the bench, and there is no way he is being sent down right after he was brought up. I honestly believe Fields is a good trading chip. I could see Pittsburgh being interested in Fields, we'll see what they plan on doing with LaRoche and Sanchez. KW better be inquirering about Sanchez, the dude can hit. And our lineup NEEEEEEDS hitting. An infield of Beckham, Ramirez, Sanchez and Pauly is better defensively and offensively than what we have right now.

BECKGAME THREADHAM: CLE @ CWS, 7:11pm WCIU
GreatScott82 replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in 2009 Season in Review
how long do you think this losing streak is going to go? Better yet, how many shutouts will our offense be dealt in a row? I am seriously starting to smell 2007 all over again.. . Kenny make that smell go away. -
Anytime you have Wise, Nix, Fields and Pods in your lineup on a consistent basis, the chances of your offense going to suck are very good.

How did Nate McLouth end up in Atlanta and not here?

QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Jun 5, 2009 -> 10:05 AM) No chance on Rowand. The salary space we have going forward is going to disappear quickly, and it when is does disappear, I want it to disappear because we have added a legitimate ace to the front of our rotation. Ditto. We have the resources to add a legit bat and a starting pitcher. Pittsburgh recieved some pretty good prospects for McClouth, i think we can give them a pretty good package for Freddy Sanchez.. thats the guy i really want as our leadoff hitter. -
My lineup next year: Figgins 3B Beckham 2B Dye DH Quentin LF Konerko 1B Abreu RF Ramirez SS Pierzynski C Danks CF Dye, Q and Abreu will rotate DH duties. Beckham will end up at 2B after Getz gets traded in a package THIS year to bring in a starting pitcher. Fields will maintain his back up corner infield role- aka the new BA of our organization.
-
awesome! awesome! awesome! I really am starting to believe Fields will be traded very soon.
-
i wonder if Pittsburgh is willing to depart with Freddy Sanchez for the right price?
-
Brian is much better than Wise and Pods. He should be playing every day as our CF. The only reason why he is not is because we lack a true leadoff hitter and that is the reason why KW brought Pods back. I'm not going to bash Pods, i think the team became energized with his presence in the clubhouse, but if KW had a true leadoff guy say at 2B, then BA would be out there no doubt. I know for a fact KW wants Getz and Fields to succeed so he can use one of them or maybe even both to aqcuire a Freddy Sanchez type player and a starting pitcher. My predictions before the trade deadline: Fields will be sent down. Beckham WILL be brought up to replace the struggling 3B. Getz will be traded in a package for a leadoff hitter or starting pitcher. And last but not least BA will be our 4th and sometimes 5th OF

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 14, 2009 -> 10:41 PM) Orlando Hudson is on a 1 year deal. Chone Figgins will be out there, Johnny Damon also. Coco Crisp has an $8 million option, Freddy Sanchez has an $8 million option. Polonco will be out there, then you get down to the Xavier Nady level and you're really stretching. Probably someone out there I missed, here's a version of the list from a few months ago. The Pirates would be silly not to take that option. . . Having Sanchez in our lineup is druel worthy! Hmmm i wonder if KW could offer Pittsburgh a deal they can't refuse THIS SEASON! No offense Chris Getz. . .

#6 for sure!

just continue to win each and every series. if that happens, we would at minimum go 8-4 which is very realistic. Anything under 7-5 would be a dissappointment.

Latest Starter Linked to Sox in a Roundabout Way: Roy Oswalt

QUOTE (Brian @ Jun 1, 2009 -> 03:05 PM) I want Dan Haren bad....on the South Side. Count me in on the Dan Haren bandwagon. Just the thought of a righty with a 2.54 ERA, 0.90 WHIP, 71 SO and 9 BB on our team makes me gitty. -

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jun 1, 2009 -> 02:10 PM) What's up with Pedro? He's not Haren, Peavy, or Oswalt. Not even close. That's whats up. yep. and if you think about it, is Pedro really that much better than Colon? Colon has been servicable. KW is looking to upgrade from servicable to a top of the rotation ace. -

http://csnchicago.com/pages/new_landing?Re...&feedID=661 Why would CSN report this? there source is just a forward from Jose de Jesus Ortiz. -
Contreras will likely take Richard's old job as a long reliever/ spot starter. He will likely be Colon's insurance policy for the remainder of the year. My question is, with Richard's emergence as a solid starter, what will Kenny do? IMO you would have to keep the Richard. He has most definitley earned a spot. The only way you trade Richard, is if you could aqcuire a guy like Haren. I really hope KW could find a way to get a top of the rotation Righty with out giving up Richard. The good news is, we have Poreda to offer as the prize pitcher to any trade. With the talent we have at double-a, im positive KW could swing a deal w/o giving up Richard as well. Since Colon doesn't accept bullpen roles, he would likely be dealt to a team in need of a backend starter in the scenario of aqcuirering a starting pitcher. Whose out there? Supposely Peavy remains a possibility, but i doubt that. Apparantley Oswalt doesn't want to come here, but who knows if thats true? Bedard? That would be waaay too many Lefties. Brandon Webb may be a perfect fit. Haren would be amazing, but AZ would likely ask for a combo of Beckham AND Poreda, would you do that? Hot Stove is getting a little warmer. . . especially as we get back into the race. Just keep winning baby!!

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 31, 2009 -> 08:21 PM) Are you kidding? Everyone wants to play for the Cubs. That's the greatest place to play in the world! -
QUOTE (kyyle23 @ May 27, 2009 -> 05:20 PM) well, the first part of his quote was "I also predict Fields/Poreda will be used as a centerpiece to a deal to land a top of the rotation pitcher", so I guess it has everything to with with anything. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 27, 2009 -> 05:21 PM) It has to do with his first sentence, which has to do with Beckham's potential promotion to Chicago. seemed pretty clear to me. I'm glad i was clear, thanks guys

QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 27, 2009 -> 04:52 PM) I think next weekend is the ETA ^^^^ I predict Beckham will make his MLB debut on June 5th @ home vs Detroit and never look back. . . I also predict Fields/Poreda will be used as a centerpiece to a deal to land a top of the rotation pitcher. Guys like Oswalt, Haren and Cain have been mentioned on this board. Its a great time to be a Sox fan! Lets pull off a sweep tonight!

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ May 27, 2009 -> 04:51 PM) Fields. As much as I hate him, he does have major league tools. which makes him a great piece for any trade package we may offer for that missing top of the rotation right hander

The starting pitcher the White Sox WILL acquire

QUOTE (BearSox @ May 27, 2009 -> 03:12 PM) Why wouldn't Webb be "their version of Mark Buehrle?" He came up with them, has been their ace for the past 4 years or so, and is kind of like their face of the franchise along with Upton. I really do hope Webb is 'their version of Buerhle'. I'm just saying, Haren is the guy i would build around. -

Haren would be great! Unfortanatley i can see Haren being their version of Mark Buerhle. The guy you build a new rotation around. Now if they want to infuse young pitching into their system, trading Haren is the way to go. As of right now a Richard/Poreda combo would be hard for any GM to pass up.
