QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 20, 2009 -> 06:32 PM) I don't think Poreda's stock went down because of one game. For the most part he's been pretty good and as expected, imo. I thought he has been good also up to this point.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 20, 2009 -> 06:30 PM) We still don't know who the PTBNL in that deal were, do we? I though it was 4 pitching prospects?
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 20, 2009 -> 06:26 PM) If they were calling him up as a "Showcase", that may have sort of backfired. Am i the only one who kind of wishes that Peavy deal went down now? Yea the money is absolutely NUTS! But all we had to give up was pitching prospects. Now were all worried about what it would potentially be in a Bacon'less world

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 20, 2009 -> 06:19 PM) One interesting note is that the Jays weren't looking for any legit, established major league starting pitchers. With that deal it appears they were asking for the Mets #1 prospect and a guy in their top 5 prospect list. Its a shame that Poreda has been struggling lately. Because his stock was very high last month.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 20, 2009 -> 06:15 PM) I think the only team with a real chance is the Phillies. agreed. I dont know why they are hesitating to give up Drabek.

QUOTE (beautox @ Jul 20, 2009 -> 06:08 PM) Mets just rejected a trade for Roy Halladay proposed by the jays; per MLBN Halladay for F-mart, Tejada, Parnell, Neise The Mets will not give up on F-Mart just like we hopefully wont give up on Bacon.

QUOTE (Cali @ Jul 20, 2009 -> 05:58 PM) Colon > Richard agreed. at least as a starter. However, i think Richard has the future to be an effective reliever. Hopefully like a Neil Cotts of 2004 and 2005.

Eh Wise/Anderson whatever. . THE HULK HOGAN OF BASEBALL IS BACK!!!!!

I actually think Dotel can close games the rest of the year. If they really need to clear salary. I'm wondering if Jenks being involved in a deal to Toronto may work? Especially if we take on Rolens contract. Jenks, Ramirez, Poreda, Richard plus 2 more prospects for Halladay and Rolen. The Jays get there SS, an expeirenced successful closer and 2 young pitchers with high cielings while shedding about $20 million in payroll for next season.
-
Dotel has been a strike out machine this year. He is much more reliable than Tony Pena. I honestly could see Bobby Jenks get dealt to clear payroll if the Halladay thing is serious.
-
I really think the Phillies are going to crack and offer Drabek. If that happens expect to see him in a Phillies uniform soon. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2009/writ...ml?eref=writers

This Pena dude throws more meatballs than i had on my sub today.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 19, 2009 -> 03:13 PM) Colon will be back next Friday (for the DH). I'm not a fan of calling up someone you're not sure about for such a big game, but whatever. Yea, unfortanatley we don't really have other options. However, I did hear there was a Freddy sighting in the clubhouse today. . .

If the Yanks help us out today we are still 1.5 games back which is an awesome way to start the 2nd half. Call me Peter Possitive but were still in great shape going forward. Yeah Getz needs to improve his baseball IQ, Alexie needs to stop his double clutch and Beckham needs to continue to bend it. But lets face it, we have 3 infielders who are playing at their respective positions for the first time at the MLB level. The 3 of them are on the learning curve together which is very rare. With CQ being out and for us to be where were at is amazing. If KW could pull a rabbit out of his hat and bring us a Halladay type w/o giving up the farm its our division to win.
-
Poreda has some tinkering to do. You could tell his confidence is pretty low and his mechanics are a bit off. Some time in triple-a should do wonders. I'm not giving up on the guy yet. And I still believe he has really good trade value. Halladay season anyone?
-
Kinda interesting how 4 runs are scored and not one of them was hit in.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 19, 2009 -> 01:01 PM) Everyone needs to remember that Halladay can demand a trade this offseason if he gets traded. If the Sox don't grant it to him, he automatically becomes a free agent. I just don't see Halladay doing that. But i've been fooled before. . .
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 19, 2009 -> 12:49 PM) I still believe Halladay and 1 1/3 seasons from him is not worth the cost. You would have to think the closer to the deadline, the lower the cost. IMO the Jays won't get near as much as they would get right now. The sooner they trade him the better off they will be. I think the Phillies will be the aggressive team that gets him. Out of the Phillies, Brewers, White Sox and Rangers, the Phillies are the team that is in the win now mode most. I hightly doubt the Brewers would continue to deplete their farm for another ace just to lose him via free agency again. The Rangers are interesting, but it makes me wonder if Roy would use his 'no trade clause' to refuse to go there. You would have to think its between the Phillies and White Sox, the Phillies making the most sense due to the state of each team. However, if the Phillies pull Drabek out of the deal, KW could easily sweep in- he's done that in the past.

QUOTE (mr_genius @ Jul 19, 2009 -> 12:32 PM) oh my hey. . he could still 're-tool' Ever since i wrote that the Sox are 32-21. Its not the first time that i've eat crow.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 19, 2009 -> 12:14 PM) Considering he started 0-13 and 2-28, the fact that he is hitting .296 is a testament to how good of a ballplayer this kid is going to be. He also has a .368 OBP and an .804 OPS, which is damn good considering it only comes with 3 homers. We're looking at a legit superstar in the future. My God, he's barely tapping the lowests ends of his potential right now. Beckham makes me gitty!!

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jul 19, 2009 -> 11:51 AM) "Suddenly, the Rogers Centre is a destination for all sorts of baseball people. Pat Gillick, who stepped down last fall as GM of the Philadelphia Phillies, but remains a key adviser to current GM Ruben Amaro; Gord Ash, the former Jays GM and now assistant to Milwaukee Brewers GM Doug Melvin; Texas Rangers scout Don Welke; and, intriguingly, Chicago White Sox minority owner Eddie Einhorn, all were among the interested on hand for yesterday's second game of the weekend series between the Jays and Boston Red Sox. They saw the Blue Jays bounce back to thump the Red Sox 6-2 to tie the series, " http://www.torontosun.com/sports/columnist.../07/19/10184436 There are your remaining teams in the Halladay hunt. Stay tuned Sox fans.

I think they are going to see how Colon does on that July 24th double header before they decide what to do with Poreda. July 21st vs Tampa will likely be make or break for Richard. If he falters once again, I say there is a real good chance Poreda gets inserted into the rotation.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 18, 2009 -> 10:52 PM) Rick Morrissey, there is something wrong with your head Alexei and JOHN Danks for Halladay? Forget that noise Lets see, we have Danks under our control through 2012. Alexie is signed for cheap through 2011. I don't think so Rick. . .

QUOTE (DBAHO @ Jul 18, 2009 -> 12:43 PM) Lackey's actually quite an interesting case coming into FA this off-season. His ERA is at 4.93 currently, but he's actually pitched a lot better than that, a FIP of 3.98 and he's only had a DER of .664 behind him in his 12 starts so far this season. I think he'll still get Derek Lowe type of money from some team, but I hope the Sox definitely take a look at him if they're after a #2 type of SP. Well it looks like both Lackey and Figgins will indeed hit theOpen Market. The funny thing is, i could see them both landing with the Sox.

With the outragous prices for these guys. I'm almost at the point of saying screw it. Lets keep the farm strong and just add via free agency. We might be better off just buying low on guys like John Lackey or Brandon Webb. Let Poreda keep developing and plug him into our 5th spot next year. Buerhle, Webb/Lackey, Danks, Floyd, Poreda. I'm cool with that- esspecially since the farm would still be in tact. If there was one move i would like KW to make before July 31st, it would be to add an OF. I could see Dye bought out and signed to a new 3 year deal worth about 6 mil/ season. He would likely split DH duties with Quentin next year. So that leaves LF and CF open. Jordan Danks is getting closer but he may benefit for one more season down in the minors. So a DeJesus might be a good pick up as a 1.5 year stop gap.
