QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 16, 2008 -> 02:53 PM) I remember that, it was when I officially gave up on that season and knew we had no chance for the playoffs that year. Don't know why I'd wanna remember, but I looked up the box scores on baseball-reference.com, Loazia beat us in the first game, then in the second game, Big Frank hit a two-run homer off Javy in the 6th to cut it to a one-run game, then drew the GW bases-loaded walk off MacDOugal in the 7th to win....that pretty much ended our reign as defending World Champs... Ahhh yes painful memories... But i dont think that will happen again for 2 reasons. 1) The A's had an awesome team that year. This year they are in rebuilding mode, so i dont care how bad we have played there in the past, we should definitley win these next 2. 2) The AL Central was too good to overcome any lost ground that year. This year its much different. The Tigers are all but out of it, the Indians and Royals are done and the Twins have a NASTY road trip coming up. If anything i think this series can help propell us into an extended winning streak.

Lets win these next two, come home with momentum and gain some ground during the next homestand

QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Aug 15, 2008 -> 06:34 AM) He could never play an OK 3rd base. The guy is a butcher at the hot corner, thats why he has pretty much been a career DH If KW cant get Figgins, im guessing he will try his best to get Roberts for 2b. If both fails im guessing he will attemp to sign free agent 2nd basemen Orlando Hudson, but thats a risk as he is coming off a pretty bad injury... If the Angels sign Crede like many people think, i can see the Angels offering Figgins for a decent price. Im almost certain one of these 3 will be here next year: Figgins, Roberts, or Hudson.

QUOTE (wilmot825 @ Aug 14, 2008 -> 10:09 AM) This is Big Name Players, Mike Caruso and Gustavo Molina...No they should not even be mentioned. Both of you guys r stupid Carusso was a big name prospect... chill out ya name caller. -
QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Aug 14, 2008 -> 10:11 AM) If the White Sox skip the 5th starter and use Vazquez, Buerhle, Danks and Floyd on four days rest the rest of the way, the 5th starter will face the following schedule; Home v. Seattle Road v. Baltimore Road v. Cleveland Home v. Toronto Home v. Detroit (will miss the Yankees on the road) Road v. KC (will miss Minnesota road series) Home v. Cleveland Not sure this is the best thing for the other four starters but it is an option. Either way the 5th starter BETTER miss that series. And yea keeping that 5th starter at home is a good idea. Good way of thinking Jenks

All-Time Worst big-name players of the Sox history

As a kid in the late 80's to mid 90's I would have to say: Steve Sax George Bell Mike Carruso David Wells Ben Wallace (do the Bulls count ) Robby Alomar Sandy Alomar Darin Erstad John Kruk lol didnt he quite because it was too hot or something? There we a lot who had career downspirals after a year or 2: Albert Belle had one monster year with us,but quickly fell off. Jose Valentin had an amazing 2000, but just wasnt the same after that. Pretty much all of the 2000 white sox: many had career years such as: Herbert Perry, Chris Singleton, Ray Durham, Mike Sirotka, Jim Parque, James Baldwin etc.... -
He did this vs KC last year which is encouraging for Thursday. Broadway Start 9/27/07

3-1 Twins lead top of the 6th. C'mon Yankees if you havent played with a sense of urgency yet the time to do so is now.

Is this 2003 all over again? Sox score primarily on power, they are talking about a possible 4 man rotation just like they did in '03 when Danny Wright went down. And the Sox and Twins are neck and neck. Look at the standings as of August 13 in 2003 and see how similar it is now minus the KC being in first obviously. August 13, 2003 Kansas City 64-55 Chicago 63-57 Minnesota 61-59 August 13, 2008 Chicago 66-53 Minnesota 66-54 Then we came up short, i hope we dont this time. Then we had Colon, Loaiza, Buerhle, and Garland now we have Floyd, Danks, Buerhle and Vazquez. Then we had Valentin, Thomas, Maggs, and Pauly. Now we have Quentin, Dye, Thome, Konerko and Griffey. I think our pen is stronger now than it was back then... maybe that will be difference? A Santana-less Twins also helps

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 12, 2008 -> 04:12 PM) I'm going to love seeing the Sox hit against Freddy. The Tigers very well may be 10+ games out by the time we play them next. I dont even think Freddy will be up in there rotation this year. That team is a mess. Now apparently Sheff wants out of Detroit and Leyland isn't pleased.

QUOTE (DBAHO @ Aug 12, 2008 -> 02:08 PM) Well there goes that idea. Who else is out there possibly who can help us I wonder. Hopefully something... i understand that Carrasco has showed some signs of pitching 4+ innings effectively but why take away from what has been the weakest part of the team in the 2nd half so far?? Im sure we are going to need Carrasco in the middle relief the rest of the way as Javy has been a mess lately. If anything it makes alittle more sense to have Broadway if anything in that 5th spot. I know he isn't much but at least he hast the experience down in the farm of going 6-7 innings / game. Unfortanately Poreda thinks he isn't ready to make the quick jump to the big leagues, i would love to see his 97 mph heat come out of the pen. He's clearly our next best option. Maybe KW and Ozzie can talk to him and say "Listen i know its early in your career, and you feel like you need work, but there is no pressure for you to succeed now, just go out there and throw strikes..." Until Linebrink comes back i think its best if this was our pitching order: Buerhle, Floyd, Danks, Vaz, Broadway Bullpen: Jenks, Dotel, Poreda, Carrasco, Thorton, Wasserman, Russel

White Sox vs Royals 8/12 - 7:11pm - CSN

QUOTE (Sox It To Em @ Aug 12, 2008 -> 01:55 PM) You said it. It seems like forever since this team has gone on an extended winning streak. We're due for one. with our struggling pen, i'll be happy with a series win. WE all know its important to win that first one! We did it vs Detroit and Boston now lets start things off good vs KC. 2 out of 3 works for me. Now if and when Linebrink comes back strong, thats when we can start talking about extended winning streaks. Until then it would be nice if Thorton would stop letting those inherited runners from scoring. Unfortantley after Jenks and Dotel he is our next best option now that Carassco is our 5th starter. -
Washburn isn't coming here. Link It sounds like Washburn isnt the guy, but KW is still looking for a guy. The fact that they haven't named a started for Thursday makes me believe they will make a deal. I wonder if Byrd is the guy they are going after? He had a poor first half, but in the second half he is 4-0 with a 1.24 ERA.
-
so far we are 4-3 on this homestand. Anything less than 6-4 wont be acceptable. Unfortanately KC has been beating us up lately.

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 11, 2008 -> 09:58 PM) How about we just don't play him ever. This lineup has to change. not going to lie..i do miss BA out there occasionally. He was starting to hit the ball really well.
-
okay... only give them 1 here.... double play then lets get out of this.

QUOTE (Countrysox2 @ Aug 11, 2008 -> 09:33 PM) im calling it Griffey game winning homer!!!!!!!!!!1 i like the way you think, but we have to get out of this jam first. dont stop believing sox fans...
-
QUOTE (lostfan @ Aug 11, 2008 -> 09:04 PM) Well Uribe basically was only allowed 2 strikes on that at-bat, for whatever that's worth. yep horrible check call by the first base ump changed the entire AB. Not that Uribe wouldve got on but you never know.

QUOTE (Reddy @ Aug 11, 2008 -> 08:41 PM) screw you griffey17. not to be mean but everyone knows not to talk about it when its happening... its okay we all forgive you griffey.

DAMN it! Its okay keep it up Danksy!!

QUOTE (Wedge @ Aug 11, 2008 -> 08:21 PM) I thought Bernie was bandwagon Chicago. I thought he was at some of the Cubs playoff games. he was only there to promote his Fox "Bernie Mac" show. I remember him singing the take me out to the ballgame and when it came to the part "root root root for the boobies" he said root root root for the CHAMPS, CHAMPS! Many Cubs fans blaimed him for Jinxing the game by saying that LOL. He was a big time Sox fan. I remember him hating the Lee-Pods deal saying we gave Lee away for nothing. Hahaha im pretty sure he regretted saying that. Bernie Mac was a cool dude.

im guessing Linebrink will back around September 1st... If its only a muscle thing like everyone says, sometimes that can take a good month or so to re-strengthn itself naturally. I think Crede is done for sure... and with the way Uribe is playing its not as big of a loss as people think.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 11, 2008 -> 06:45 PM) Absolutely not...it should be Alexei or Swisher. agreed. due to the fact that Alexie provides nice balance at the bottom between the sluggers i would just switch AJ and Swish.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Aug 11, 2008 -> 02:49 PM) What this all means is that we better win the division so we get an automatic pass away from the Angels in the first round The winner of the Central will likely play the winner of the East. If a team from the central makes it via wildcard they are going to face the Angels. The only thing set in stone is that the wild card is going to play the Angels. If the season ended today it would look like this: Boston @ LA Angels Chicago @ Tampa Bay If the Twins and Sox both make it will look like this: Twins/Sox @ LA Angels Twins/Sox @ Tampa A division title means we DONT have to play the Angels in the first round. If we make the playoffs we HAVE to win the division.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 10, 2008 -> 04:49 PM) the White Sox won't sign a pitcher to a 5 year deal and that's what Garland will command. I would much rather spend alittle bit more on a guy like Sheets. I know he has a history of getting hurt every year. But this guy would be the ACE we need. I also wouldnt' be surprised to see Vazquez moved this offseason, maybe for a young starter (Floyd type move perhaps?)
