  1. Ok I'm glad to hear he was up there w/Reinsdorf...that sounds like a good sign. I knew someone here would have some more information on something I wasn't even sure about.
  2. Yes you can call me crazy for suggesting this, and maybe it has been suggested already on here, but why don't we try to trade for Corey Patterson? He's cheap, left-handed, young and plays a quality centerfield. I know he's playing terrible right now but it's because of the pressure cooker that is Wrigley Field these days. They treat him like crap over there, so it's no surprise to me that he's struggling. I mean the kid is only 24, he still has some time to learn the game and be the player he was projected to be. Now if you haven't flipped off the screen yet, you might now because I suggest we deal Jose to them as part of the deal. When you think about it though Jose is the prototypical player the Cubs trade for (high K's, good power). See Aramis Ramirez, Jose Vizciano, et al. So toss them Jose, Rowand or Perez, and a bullpen arm and see if they bite. Now you may wonder if I'm off my rocker with this one, but when you think about it the Sox really wouldn't "lose" anything in this deal. Jose is probably gone anyways after this year, Rowand/Perez get replaced by Reed/Borchard anyways, and we can replace the pitcher we give up (maybe Rauch?). If anything the sox lose a possible draft pick for letting Jose go in the offseason. What they pick up is a quality left-handed pure centerfielder who could possibly ease the loss of Ordonez...that is of course if we can't re-sign Mags. Lee, Patterson, Borch/Reed wouldn't be all that bad an OF and would come pretty cheap (Patterson is getting paid 480k this year). All I'm saying here is this used to be the untouchable of untouchable prospects who's value is probably at it's lowest it'll ever be. So maybe, just maybe the World Series crazed Cubbies could panic and drop him to a team like us. And if we do get him and he ends up thriving on the Southside the Cubs could have a constant reminder of how they screwed up for a LOOOOONG time (along with Jon Garland of course). So yea, that's my idea. I hope you all have the extra large flamethrowers out.
  3. Speaking of Mags (this may be a bit off topic here) my brother spotted him above Hawk and DJ at tonight's game (tues v. Phils) in a skybox. All I have to say is why the heck aren't you in the clubhouse? Ya he's hurt but he's still part of this team and I see no reason for him not to be with the team when they play at home. Maybe my brother saw wrong, but if it really was Mags that's a bit shady.
  4. Don't know if everyone's seen this yet but it's not looking too good for Joey B and Reed... (this was in Peter Gammons' latest notebook)
  5. I don't understand why everyone doesn't like this pick. To begin, this guy is hitting .362 this year w/21 doubles 10 HRs and 47 RBI. We're not talking about someone who is facing slouches either, he plays in the Big 12. His three year totals are pretty sick as well. .364 AVG, 40 Doubles, 25 HRs, and 131 RBIs in 163 games. This is also a guy who doesn't even devote all of his time to baseball yet. Sounds to me like he's got a high ceiling because we don't know how good he can be with his full attention on baseball. Now why in the world would anyone not think this kid wasn't talented enough to be picked 18th? I firmly believe that in the first round you should draft for just that, TALENT. Screw our "needs" there are very few players who could make an impact within a year or two and most of them (if not all of them) were gone by the time our pick came up. All this stuff about lighting a fire under crede's ass is B.S. Fields is at least two years away. Some fire a two year cushion is, eh? Position players are safer draft picks. Period. With all of the injuries the super sox pitching phenoms have suffered over the past three years makes me pine for a player just like Fields. This was a safe pick, and I'm glad the Sox made it. Btw, this is what BA has to say about Fields:
  6. Sox take Brandon Allen (high schooler from TX)
  7. Reddy, they have the conference call feed on MLB.com radio
  8. Sox take Lucas Harol (sp?) EDIT: lol CWS you beat me to it.
  9. Lasourda is hilarious when announcing the dodgers' picks. I Love it.
  10. What happened to the Ga Tech boys? Why hasn't Owings or Patterson been taken yet?
  11. Lol that's exactly what I thought when I read that.
  12. Tigers grab Fraizer...is he hurt? I think I might have heard that earlier this week
  13. Cubs get Grant Johnson. I hate the Cubs but love the Irish...quite the conundrum. (Btw, A's got Powell AND Suzuki...stacking catchers)
  14. I think this draft is starting to reak of the Sox being worried about signing everyone.
  15. ugh Ferris taken right after our pick...he would have been quite the pick.
  16. Hopefully he'll pound the Cubs w/Keans and Dunn at his side for a LOOOOONG time.
  17. Cincy gets Szymanski...quality pick.
  18. Well it can't be signability w/Szymanski...because the Yanks passed on him twice. I wonder what the deal is.
  19. Geezum Crow the Yanks pass on Szymanski.
