I think they did, I distinctly remember everyone ripping up the turf in the Horseshoe. It was really classy-like, with a likely couch burning happening somewhere. -

Do my eyes deceive me, or did OSU fans just storm the court after the game? Granted, I didn't watch much of the game at all...but you're the #1 team. And were favorites. Makes no sense to rush the court. -
The timing of this is extremely odd...why wait so long to fire him? I understand he had a disagreement w/the GM, but the off-season is going to start ramping up soon. You have to think they already have something in place, which screams Pete Carroll. It's a bit out there, yes but consider the facts: 1) It's now after national signing day for football, therefore he'd be leaving SC in less of a lurch if he left before. 2) Sarksian (sp?) already turned down the Raiders and Kiffin took the job. Could this be because Pete had told Sark he'd be leaving soon and he'd be the successor? If so, makes sense that Kiffin would leave because he more than likely would not want to work under Sark. 3) As much as the NCAA pushes this stuff under the rug, SC has potential violations that could cost them scholarships and maybe even bowl games. Although unlikely, it certainly is a possibility. 4) The Chargers lost all their coordinators anyways, so Pete would be able to build from the group up with his people. Granted, this is all conspiracy theory-ish but the timing of it all makes this very odd. The only big obstacle I see is that Carroll wants total control of a team, and it's doutbful the Chargers would hand the power over from Smith to Carroll. Smith has a good track record and arguably has assembled the team with the best talent in all the NFL.

Not sure if anyone is aware (or cares for that matter), but the rumor is that Weis is having a Press Conference this Thursday. Most are speculating that at the very least Rick Minter is fired. Some are thinking up to three coaches could be fired and that Weis already has replacements that he's ready to announce. Ultimately, no one really knows what's going on. Should be interesting if true. -

QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Jan 7, 2007 -> 09:29 PM) Don't pity Louisville. They have been up before. Howard Schnellenberger had them there in the late 80's/early 90's. John L. Smith had them headed back in the right direction when Petrino picked up. Brohm is a Louisville kid, with family ties to the program as mentioned with his brother. A new coach could definitely affect his choice, but I think it would depend on who it was more than who it was not. Unless he has a foot and a half out the door already. And how many college coaches are going to have to go to the NFL and fail before this stops? Who was the last college head coach to successfully make the transition and stick? Dennis Erickson? But seriously, Jimmy Johnson? If so, that's a long time ago. -

QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Jan 3, 2007 -> 11:31 PM) Competitive matchups is far from the point of the BCS. The point of the BCS is to create a National Championship Game, plain and simple. The rest of the games are dictated by conference champions that are tied to bowls and at large teams that are selected in a pre-selected, rotating order. Bowls choose the best at-large team they can that will attract attention and ratings to their bowl. It has NOTHING to do with creating competitive matchups. It never has. And this is the last time I will say it. Just ONE time will someone tell me who was more deserving of the last at-large spot than Notre Dame. Everyone wants to crow they didn't deserve to be there, but that is bull s***. They were the obvious choice of the remaining eligible teams. To say they didn't deserve a bid is pure ignorance. Preach. For a Michigan fan, you're pretty smart. I need a f****ing drink right now...or 20. Let the Fire Rick Minter campaign begin now. -

ND should have played Wake Forest or Louisville. Plain and Simple. We all know LSU was the worst matchup for ND, but it was an attractive matchup for the money grab that is the BCS. Again, another "disadvantage" of being ND and being a National Attraction. -

QUOTE(Felix @ Jan 3, 2007 -> 11:16 PM) How? It's completely true. So if you're an LSU fan, you're going to discredit your own great victory by saying you beat a "lesser" opponent? Because that's exactly what you're doing by saying your opponent is overrated. It's rather simple logic, actually. Also, LSU is rated higher. I mean really, you're a friggin 10pt favorite. You're expected to do this. -

QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Jan 3, 2007 -> 11:06 PM) How many freakin balls has McKnight dropped tonight?? I saw he made a hell of a catch earlier, but have seen at least 2-3 drops and I have only been watching sporadically. This has been Mcknight's problem all year. I really wish Grimes would have played over him. -

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Jan 3, 2007 -> 10:58 PM) It's a shame it's not LSU or USC playing the Buckeyes. By what I've seen this year, tOSU is the best, then LSU and USC in any order, than everybody else. I really don't know how you can say all that. If Weis never shows up in South Bend, Quinn isn't even a 1st round pick. No I agree, Weis has turned him into a monster. Should have worded that better. By saying ND is polarizing I mean that he's under such a microscope and so much exposure. I mean take the gold helmets and the blue jerseys away and then take a look. As much as people argue that the "ND Hype Machine" is good for you, it's just as bad. Obviously there are very few here that believe this as such, but I might as well state it. Just give this a read, http://bluegraysky.blogspot.com/2006_12_01...576835367811511 Puts what I'm speaking of in a much more eloquent manner. Sidenote: LSU fans chanting overrated. That's downright moronic. -

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jan 3, 2007 -> 10:20 PM) I dont know man, hitting a receiver in stride is something that he has shown the ability to do, while his competition on the other side of the ball is throwing near picks in those situations. ND should be running the ball every snap, but im sure Charlie will try and throw it. Of his two long balls, only the last was hit in stride. The first big play of the game was an awful throw, and if the 2nd was hit in stride it should have been a TD. Maybe I define "stride" a bit differently, but I'm not impressed by the touch on his throws. But that may simply be me nitpicking. I really do think he's a great QB, and he certainly has the measurables. I just think Quinn is getting the raw deal in this whole "Who should be taken first?" discussion. And it certainly has a lot to do with him being the non-sexy, "safe" pick; therefore, not an interesting media take. Size, Arm, Brain, and most importantly Toughness makes Quinn the complete package...too bad he plays for a team as polarized as ND is. -

Real easy to put touch on a ball when the receiver is wide the f*** open. Atrocious coverage. Not saying Russell is terrible, but any major college QB could have made the deep throws he's made tonight. He's still a freak of nature with a strong arm, though. Walker: 128 yds rushing in the first half... if you told me this would be his line at halftime but ND would be losing, i'd call you crazy. ND looks good, and two things need to happen to win: 1) Defense needs to stop the big play. Tough task, but they need to put a solid half together. 2) Brady needs to settle down and make good decisions. Throw it away when necessary, don't force it, and settle into a rhythm. These things happen, ND can go home a winner. -
Here's BMac's HR splits over the past two years: 2005 4 HR in 21.1 IP @ USCF 9 HR in 46.2 IP on Road 13 HR in 68 IP total 2006 10 HR in 48.1 IP @ USCF 7 HR in 36.1 IP on road 17 HR in 84.2 IP Regardless of park factors, this guy simply gives up the longball. Can't really deny that. And when you think he may pitch almost 200 innings this year, it'll be curious to see what he gives up over the course of a full season as a starter. Sure Arlington may not inflate his numbers, but it sure as heck wont help them. That can't really be denied either.

Well Thank God I took LT w/my 2nd pick.... Won my league.

Top three is nice, but still consider ND a longshot on that one...I've heard LSU is where he'll end up going. Granted, it's better to still be in the picture rather than not at all; McKnight is very talented. This situation is much like Everson Griffin (5 Star DE w/USC, ND, one other school that slips my mind in the final 3). ND is in on him, but it's a longshot since most believe he's going to USC.

QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Dec 14, 2006 -> 03:41 PM) Ya just pretend like you don't care about losing him. f*** ya McCray! Right, because that's EXACTLY what I'm doing... I distinctly remember saying that yes, losing Wilson can be considered a loss for ND. He's a quality player. I can pander ND haters around here and whine about losing players to Illinois, but in the grand scheme of things the effect Zook and Illinois has on ND is negligable. ND doesn't play U of I, U of I is not an elite program, and ND is going to have a top 3-5 recruiting class regardless of the guys we've lost out on. Wilson and Benn dont want to play in South Bend, fine, there are players of their caliber that do. I know you guys are excited about your program, and that's fine; you're just wrong in assuming you matter to ND. Maybe in a few years, but certainly not now.

QUOTE(Spod=Ratings @ Dec 13, 2006 -> 06:18 PM) Sucks you're going to miss out on Martez Sucks he's never going to go to a BCS bowl. Loss for ND, for sure. But at least they're all going to UofI where they wont interfere with ND in any way. Much better than going to USC, Michigan, et al.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Dec 12, 2006 -> 10:33 PM) Of course he didn't. Lemming did the whole thing in regards to that article to try and get Tez to ND and McCray to FSU. He basically was just spewing BS in order to try and give Illinois' recruiting opponents negative recruiting tools, because the a-hole is jealous of what Zook is doing recruitwise. That may sound ridiculous, but it's a fact, I mean after all, Lemming IS PAID by Notre Dame. I don't think it will work though, Illinois is in too good with these guys. Lemming is paid by ND? That sounds ridiculously untrue. Any solid source on that, or is that comment hold the same validity as a "zook pays his players" statement?

QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Dec 4, 2006 -> 10:00 PM) How many times do we have to go through this?? Who else deserves it more?? Just to educate you, the way the BCS finished up, West Virginia is the ONLY team that could have made it other than Notre Dame. If you think West Virginia should have gone, make an argument. But this "Notre Dame didn't play good enoug" drivel is getting old. Before making such comments, understand what the alternatives are. In this case there is only one. So go for it. Make your argument for West Virginia. Convince me. They lost to USF. At home. But you already knew this. -
QUOTE(iWiN4PreP @ Dec 3, 2006 -> 04:08 PM) oh ye other then that? =) thx FSU v. ND. 1993. Maybe there were others after that, but that's the first one that comes to my mind. Wonder why?

QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Nov 30, 2006 -> 07:57 PM) Wisconsin would beat ND. Sorry but they both played Michigan, and Wisconsin played them much better. If anything it is possible had Wisconsin played Michigan later in the season when their WR's started to play much better that Wisconsin could have had a chance to beat Michigan. Not to mention Michigan played at ND, where as Wisconsin played at the Big House. You seem to believe that because ND played a better team USC, and lost, that they are some how better than Wisconsin. Wisconsin beat the same quality of teams as ND. I dont see why losing to a team should get you bonus points. Nope, I'm pretty sure this post started it. -

QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Dec 2, 2006 -> 04:38 PM) Well I have watched both teams play and I think Wisconsin would beat Notre Dame. Purdue scored 21 on Notre Dame, 3 on Wisconsin Michigan scored 47 on Notre Dame, 21 on Wisconsin Penn State scored 17 on Notre Dame, 3 on Wisconsin Because we all know that ND wins games on defense.... that's a terrible way to judge if a team could be another. Especially in the case of ND which is an offensive ballclub. Just for fun here's the scores of those games: ND 35 Purdue 21 ND 21 Michigan 47 ND 41 Penn State 17 Total difference: + 12 Wisky 24 Purdue 3 Wisky 13 Michigan 27 Wisky 13 Penn State 3 Total difference: +17 Not saying this is a better way to present it, but the five point difference is pretty negligble. Certainly not a basis for a definitive "Wisconsin would beat ND" statement. -

QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Dec 2, 2006 -> 03:33 PM) The BCS points don't matter at this point or am I missing something? They don't, unless everyone adopts the "Steve Spurrier drop ND out of the top 25 in the polls" strategy. Outside of that ND could give two craps about who wins what today. -

A few quick repsonses: - Do you really think Brady Quinn would be a top 5 NFL talent if it weren't for Weis? Brady wasn't even recruited by ND until Ndukwe was in the fold. They went to the same high school, and Ndukwe practically had to throw Brady at Ty to get him to notice him. - Do you really think Samardzija would have broken the ND record for most career TD receptions if it weren't for Weis? (Oh, and he did it in two years...too bad he didn't see the light of day when Willingham was coach). - The offensive record book at ND has been completely blown up over the past two years. 30+ offensive records have been broken under Weis' regime. - I did not make any claims about improving defense. If there's one knock on Weis its that the defense hasn't gone anywhere. This obviously needs to be improved. - You still cannot deny the two year coaching comparisons; the numbers simply do not lie. To be cliche, Rome was not built in a day. I dont think many understand the awful shape Willingham left this program in. The "marquee" wins aren't there yet, but there's finally a mentality that 9-3 and 10-2 seasons are, to use your own words, "underperforming". Big difference from being happy with just being in a decent bowl game. QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Dec 2, 2006 -> 02:05 PM) Fotop, some people just don't get it. Whether they can't or just refuse to, I don't know, but as you said, it is quite comical. I could go on, but why. It's like beating your head against the wall hoping the light bulb finally comes on. This has been a slow realization for me, I figure if there's as much evidence as there is there has to be some point in which people finally have some sort of epiphany. Obviously, that's not the case...so looks I need to go cleanup the blood on my forehead after banging my head on the wall this afternoon. Lesson Learned.
