  1. This is just like the curse of Poppy Hidalgo! Come on people!!!11
  2. QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Apr 22, 2007 -> 07:43 PM) Notre Dame is gathering an impressive haul right now, with 10 early commits including several heralded players. Up to 12 now with the recent committments of Haifis Williams (DL) and Lane Clelland (OL). I think Michigan was pretty hot on Clelland's trail, is this perceived as a "big" loss for Big Blue, Rex? Apparently ND leads for Carlton Thomas (RB) as well. He's tiny (5'7") but has some ridiculous highlight reels and offers from plenty of bigtime schools (USC, Auburn, etc.).
  3. Per Rotoworld... Giants placed RHP Russ Ortiz on the 15-game disabled list, retroactive to May 2, with elbow neuritis in his right arm. Could it be Tim Lincecum time? There hasn't been any indication yet, but it'd be hard to pick anyone else to replace him in the rotation. If Lincecum comes up and pitches well, Ortiz shouldn't have a spot once he's ready to return. May. 3 - 7:32 pm et Looks like a callup is on the horizon...can't imagine the Giants not giving the kid the opportunity
  4. Frankly, much like a few others here...I don't get the fascination with Wolfe. Fast? Yes, but not blow your socks off fast. Productive? Yea, but against arguably 2nd tier competition. Basically any positive said about him can be followed with a but. To me, that's not a good sign. Factor that in along with his size, and one's gotta wonder if he can hack it in the NFL. Obviously I trust Angelo when it comes to later round draft picks, maybe he sees some Warrick Dunn in Wolfe? Who knows. All I know is I would have grabbed someone like Pittman or Lorenzo Booker (who I believe was taken right before the Bears pick).
  5. QUOTE(WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Apr 30, 2007 -> 10:08 AM) Looks like he made the right choice coming out early huh? Right, because his stock would have been so much higher next year. Hmmmm face 8 in the box next year on every down because Quinn is gone, and may not even be the guy that has the bulk of the carries...sounds like a great idea! Don't get me wrong, Darius was a good back for ND and put up good numbers (still think he'll be a serviceable 3rd down back in the league) but coming out a year early was the right choice. No Quinn + a stable of backs = not much room for improvement.
  6. Looks like "G-Reg" Olsen will drop to the bears...dont see NE, BAL or SD taking him
  7. QUOTE(Sonik22 @ Apr 28, 2007 -> 03:22 PM) We can only hope for troy smith in the 3rd round....Please, make it happen. I will buy that jersey in an instant, my favorite player evar. Green? Fairly obvious, but I'd just want to make sure.
  8. 1st pick, 2008 and 2nd rd pick this year. Steep price, but I'd say it's worth it.
  9. What did Cleveland have to give up? Regardless, don't think it needs to be said from me (obvious bias) but the Browns are cleaning up.
  10. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Apr 28, 2007 -> 03:06 PM) I agree with you, although I don't want the Bears giving up picks. If Quinn falls to #31, I'd take him, even if the Bears don't necessarily want him. At this point, he's far and away the best player available. If he falls there, I don't see how you can pass on him. Not sure what the going rate would be to move up, but if it was a swap of 1sts, give our 3rd and 5th, Id do it
  11. I'm going to get flamed for this, but the bears really should trade up for Quinn here. As a notoriously cheap franchise, this could be a time in which you could get a potential franchise qb for the cheapest possible rate. You dont have to pay him top 15 money now, and it's not like a Tom Brady is going to fall in your lap in the 6th round. Grossman has a year left. This is a prime scenario for Quinn. Strong Defense behind him, good o-line, and a few weapons to work with.
  12. For the love of all that is holy, please don't let Brady Quinn go to GB. Dont think I could stomach the combination of Brady on the Packers and Jeff S. on the Cubs...
  13. Another area quarterback headed to Notre Dame From Times Staff Reports April 19, 2007 Dayne Crist, a 6-foot-5 junior quarterback from Sherman Oaks Notre Dame who is considered one of the top quarterbacks in Southern California, has committed to Notre Dame. Crist made an unofficial visit to South Bend, Ind., last week to watch spring football practice. He will be joining a program in which Jimmy Clausen of Westlake Village Oaks Christian is competing for the starting quarterback position this fall as a freshman. Last week, Crist's teammate, junior linebacker Anthony McDonald, committed to the Fighting Irish. — Eric Sondheimer Just a rumor for the time being, but Crist announces tonight. Rated by some (Lemming) as the top passing qb in the class, he sounds like another good one from California. Looks like Weis is trying to become Quarterback U. If Crist is on board, the 2008 team will have 5 scholarship QBs that were all highly rated coming out of HS (4 star or better). I'd be shocked to see no one transfer or change positions once a solid depth chart is set. Needless to say, this should be the start of a fun weekend for ND football; recruiting news + annual spring game on saturday.
  14. Don't know if this has been said, but I'm almost hoping we plunk somebody. That way, when Padilla does it during his start we'll get a bench clearing brawl. We all know Padilla will hit someone (probably AJ), might as well get a head start and spark the team.

    LOST! thread

QUOTE(BobDylan @ Apr 14, 2007 -> 02:15 AM) Whoever Jacob is, he's dead. In the Clockwork Orange episode, there is a line on the screen that reads "God loves you as He loved Jacob." The word "loved" is past tense, inferring that he is no longer alive. What that means in terms of who Jacob is/was, I have no idea. But the dude is dead, and if he's not, those Lost writers had better go back to grammar school. I watch Lost but don't tend to read much into it or analyze. However, could this phrase simply be referring to the Biblical Jacob? It makes sense seeing as it references God with the phrase. Therefore, I dont think you can conclude the Lost Jacob is dead.
  16. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Mar 22, 2007 -> 01:51 AM) Wow, ND fans sure are sensitive, lulckily you will all be knobbing Claussen soon and will forget that Quinn ever existed. Still Russell has the higher upside, sorry, but its true. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Mar 22, 2007 -> 01:55 AM) What, your saying 6'6, 260 pounds QB's who can throw the ball 70 yards in the air with some level of accuracy and have actually beaten real defenses and opponents have a better upside than Brady Quinn. ND HATER, GO IRISH 4 LYFE!!! Claussen sucks too btw, he beat a bunch of crap in HS (ahh a younger Quinn...) but he'll be just like his brothers were in college. Luckily for ND, they have got a stud in Demetrius Jones though, I just hope for their sake he gets a real shot to see the field before Claussen can suck it up enough to ruin a full season. What insightful and well-thought out analysis. Oh and just for clarification's sake: QUOTE(Fotop @ Mar 21, 2007 -> 09:45 PM) I'm not saying Quinn should be drafted ahead of Russell, but really to say Quinn is garbage is absurd. Think that pretty much proves I never said Quinn should be drafted ahead of Russell. That wasn't the point of my post. The point was that everyone craps on Brady Quinn for no legit reason, and like I expected, is a point that will be continually lost on some here. Btw, which one of you is responsible for this masterpiece?
  17. I don't even know why I bother anymore...what with people thinking Troy Smith had better pro prospects that Quinn mid-season, and the general hatred of Brady Quinn, but I'll continue to try. Here's what you need to know about Brady Quinn: - He's never missed a snap due to injury (although he took a pounding...sacked 89 times in his career). - Intensely focused on fitness; stays in prime athletic condition - He's got prototypical size 6'4" and strength (25 reps of 225 at the combine) - The past two seasons he's had td/int ratios of 32/7 and 37/7 respectively (that's 4.5/1 and about 5/1 for the reduced fractions fans) and completion percentages of 64.9 and 61.9 in those seasons. - A bit intangible, but the kid is a leader...had been the leader of the ND squad since snap one. - Has played under the greatest scrutiny a college player can play under for 4 straight years. Psychologically, you have to believe he's ready for the rigorous scrutiny of the NFL...moreso than most other college players. Simply put, these are the facts. Talk about "big" games all you want, but his great performances have been discounted (MSU comeback this year, UCLA final drive this year, USC 2005, etc) while ND's large losses have been magnified (Michigan this year, LSU this year, USC this year...even though he single-handedly kept ND in the game as along as he could in the USC game). Does Russell have tremendous upside? Of course. Cannon Arm. 6'6". 265; Overweight (but that can be fixed). Physically, the potential is there. The only thing physical about him that I find disconcerting is the fact that he showed up to the combine out of shape. This is your life, your career, and you can't get the motivation to leave no doubt? That's a question of desire to me, but I could be picking a nit. But really, what "big" game has Russell won? Everyone thinks ND is so terrible, and everyone knew ND's defense was awful...but yet that's a "big win"? I call B.S; if Quinn's performances get discounted due to the talent level of competition, why doesn't this apply to Russell? Let's see, where else has Jamarcus performed in big games? Auburn? Nope...lots of yards, but still a loser (7-3). Florida? Nope, 1 TD to 3 Picks and an 11 pt loss. Tennessee? Arguable, but 3 INTs....I wouldn't call it outstanding. Arkansas? Yep, that's legit. 2 TD no INT, good yardage. I'm not saying Quinn should be drafted ahead of Russell, but really to say Quinn is garbage is absurd. The discussion around Quinn has been entirely negative, and unrightly so, has shaped negative opinions about him. There has been ZERO negative discussion around Russell. Nothing about his weight, nothing about his track record, yet every single pass thrown and sentence out of Quinn's mouth has been analyzed and overanalyzed until every pundit is blue in the face. So sure, maybe Russell goes #1 and goes to the Raiders. And maybe Quinn goes somewhere in the top 5-15. Ultimately, it's what's best for Quinn....he's not going to be under the brightest light in football anymore and he goes to a better team. But you can't say Quinn isn't a good quarterback. It's impossible to believe that so many people that watch sports and are knowledgable about sports here actually believe that.
  18. Notre Flippin' Dame (Homer City) Kansas Georgetown OSU Gtown over Kansas in the final.
  19. What time would the draft be? I could probably make it if it were around 8pm CST.
  20. QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 11, 2007 -> 05:52 PM) The entire Big East was given no love, but the Big 10 did get some love. I don't understand it. The entire crowd will be rooting for Winthrop. Seriously, the Big East got completely shafted. And ND will have negative fans in Spokane. Only silver lining I see is that if they somehow survive the Pacific Northwest gauntlet, they get Wisconsin who looks very beatable.
  21. ND gets boned, really not surprised though since the committee has never showed ND any love. Go play in Spokane against a dangerous mid-major. Then if you survive, play Oregon in a legit road game. The only thing ND can do now is prove the committee wrong and use this as motivation. Let's Go Irish!
  22. QUOTE(whitesoxfan99 @ Feb 25, 2007 -> 05:20 PM) Duke rushed the court on Dockery's shot last year. And that's pretty much when Duke jumped the shark...
  23. QUOTE(Jimbo @ Feb 25, 2007 -> 05:19 PM) anyways this poses a question.....how far does wiscy drop..two losses in one week? In the grand scheme of things it just means they're most likely a two seed in the tourney. Polls, as pretty much everyone here knows, are all together useless.
  24. What can I say, I'm a glutton for the truth. God forbid it's a two-way street here though...I mean NO ONE here hates ND, right?
