  1. Btw, I LOVE watching BBTN squirm for 2 hours. They've gotta be swearing to each other during the breaks.
  2. QUOTE(YahtzeeSox @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 03:33 PM) OMG if the Twins got Tracy instead of us... s*** LOL none of this makes any sense...I'm confused. Anyways, why would they grab Tracy when they just got Youkilis? My head hurts...
  3. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 03:31 PM) Why would they trade Youkalis when Bellhorn is injured??? IF Cora is their SS, Im sure Graffy wont be the starting 2B.... Renteria at Short, Cora at 2nd. Youk wasn't even with the Red Sox...I think he was in the minors.
  4. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 03:30 PM) Compared to what the Cubs had in LF, he's a major upgrade. But it's far from putting them over the top...I think that's what everyone is trying to say.
  5. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 03:26 PM) Gerut's not exactly a young player anymore. His bat speed is awful now, and he's a step slower than he was before the injury. I'll be shocked if he's ever an average MLB hitter again. I basically meant he was younger than Lawton, and yes I understand he's not that great...but he'll still be a decent player to serve as a stop gap until the pirates get someone else. My main point was basically that Lawton isn't such a good player to be b****ing about this.
  6. Btw, why would we get Tracy if we already got Blum? I smell Bulls***.
  7. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 03:19 PM) Jody Gerut is a good player. I like that deal for the Pirates. Give him every day playing time and I think the Pirates will be quite pleased. He hasn't been as good this year as he was last year, but he's a good player. Jesus Christ, I was about to type the same thing. Stop involving common sense! I get to post less! But really, Gerut allows the Pirates to get younger at the same position. Production wise Gerut is probably going to put up similar numbers to Lawton (sans OBP) and provide better defense. But sure, if we're all going to be b****y about not getting anyone today what better way to whine than to think Matt Lawton is Roberto Clemente reincarnated.
  8. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 03:13 PM) GMAFB...Kenny wasn't gonna drastically overpay and there weren't any options. Totally agree Jason, I'm friggin' proud of KW for not caving to these f***ing carnival GMs (Littlefield, Lamar, Bavasi, etc). They're all looking for a ridiculous edge when all they have to give is a damn Dr. Seuss hat as their prize. /carnivalcomparison
  9. I know I'll get strung up for this, but with all the talk of Sosa being outrighted...you think he's an option? Personally I don't think the stats he could put up would justify the negativity he'd bring, but when we're talking waiver transactions Sosa is probably a prime example of the type of guy we'd be able to pickup at that point.
  10. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 03:07 PM) He's an absolutely horrid GM. No s***, I mean he started Baez negotiations with the Mets by asking for wright or reyes. GMAFB. Then he turns it into Petit and another minor leaguer? GMAFB. Asking for Morneau to START Huff negotiations? GMAFB. Seriously, trying to hold everyone in baseball by the balls and have nothing to show for it HAS to be the last straw even though the Devil Rays owners probably don't give a damn.
  11. QUOTE(Soxnbears01 @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 03:04 PM) Tampa Bay needs to be demolished, they have no idea what they're doing. Actually I think we're seeing the final days of Chuck Lamar. He's pretty much destroyed all relations with most GMs. This deadline especially, he could have gotten some great deals...but he tried to play chicken and got burned. I doubt the Devil Rays ownership really cares all that much, but if they want to change their image Lamar needs to get the boot.
  12. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 03:00 PM) BP is now reporting Youkilis and Jose Cruz JR. for Romero. They think its a done deal. Three prospects for Romero (essentially)? I guess that's ok for the red sox...they were pretty desperate for bullpen help. Youkilis is a good addition for the Twins, fills their gap at third, and romero was a bit expendable.
  13. I don't know what's worse...people cranky about not doing anything major or people cranky about trading prospects away. Just kidding guys, but it's fun to watch the conversation going on. But in all seriousness, this isn't the end of being able to adjust our team...many good players get dealt in the waiver period (take larry walker last year for example).
  14. I told myself it would take a lot for me to be convinced that Honel can be considered a prospect again... Getting his velocity back and starting to pitch well are the first two steps. Being consistent and staying away from injuries? Then we might have a prospect on our hands again, fellas. However, it is good to see Kris drawing some attention again. Keep it up Kris!
  15. Tar and feather me if this has already been posted but this is what Will Carroll had to say about an hour ago: "The White Sox have made their final push, asking again about all three of their target acquisitions: A.J. Burnett, Billy Wagner and Huff. The Sox have made their best offers on all three and would take the first agreement, since all offers involve common players. It's an interesting ploy by Kenny Williams and his staff." TIFIW. I'm just this glad this all ends rather anti-climatically (like it does every year) tomorrow.
  16. Bleh I really wish this game would fix something over the course of three years. I'm REALLY bothered by how good scrambling QBs are (not against me, but me using them). All you need to do is rollout, draw the corner in and throw over the top to your receiver. When you wanna rush, you speed option. You'll score pretty much everytime you do this. I really, REALLY wish they would fix the A.I. so the corners won't bite until the line of scrimmage is broken. However, in Human to Human play there's a spy play in dime that really intrigues me...it uses your two dime backs as spies. I think this could be a remedy for the crazy scrambling qb problem...too bad the CPU never uses it. So if you guys just want to start destroying people recruit a sick scrambling qb and then look for speed at pretty much every position (sans lineman positions).
  17. Journey. She's just a small town girl...living in a looooooooonnnely worlddddd...
  18. QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 11:48 PM) All of the books on that page are good for reading to children at night. But don't do it word for word. You need to skim the details. You can add them as they grow older. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detai...120138?v=glance Alice in Quantumland : An Allegory of Quantum Physics (Hardcover) The Wizard of Quarks by Robert Gilmore today! Scrooge's Cryptic Carol: Visions of Energy, Time, and Quantum Nature by Robert Once Upon a Universe : Not-so-Grimm tales of Cosmology by Robert Gilmore Flatterland: Like Flatland, Only More So by Ian Stewart Flatland : A Romance of Many Dimensions (Dover Thrift Editions) by Edwin A. Abbott The New World of Mr Tompkins by George Gamow Man am I glad all my parents read me was "Good Night, Moon." Now THATs a book.
  19. Metallica? That would be my guess even though Lars is Danish.
  20. QUOTE(Yoda @ Jul 25, 2005 -> 09:40 AM) Weekend Box Office July 22 - 24 1.) Charlie and the Chocolate Factory $28,300,000 2.) Wedding Crashers $26,200,000 3.) Fantastic Four $12,275,000 4.) The Island $12,100,000 5.) Bad News Bears $11,500,000 Despite a flood of new film choices, moviegoers spent their time and money catching up on existing hits as the top three films remained unchanged from last weekend. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory held onto the number one spot, Wedding Crashers enjoyed an exceptional hold in second place, and Fantastic Four stayed put in third. The new futuristic sci-fi thriller The Island was a total disaster failing to find paying customers while the sports comedy Bad News Bears scored a mild opening. The urban drama Hustle & Flow and the horror sequel The Devil's Rejects each connected with their respective audiences while the documentary March of the Penguins made a triumphant appearance in the top ten despite a more limited release. So this means Michael Bay can stop making movies? No, you say? His deal with the devil still trumps all of this? Alright just checking.
  21. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jul 25, 2005 -> 11:38 PM) With all the political correctness going around I seriously need to file a class action lawsuit against Notre Dame and their obvious racist designation of the "Fighting Irish", after I win that I am going after that focker and his lucky charms. And what is with the use of GREEN for sarcasm. Must be a hidden slight against the Irish. LOL HE DIDNT MEAN IT THAT WAY, SOMETIMES WE NEED TO BACK AWAY FROM THE PC BANDWAGON. Funny thing is that there are actually people that do believe that about the "fightin'" irish. Whackos. Too bad changing Notre Dame's mascot is about as hard as winning the powerball on back to back weeks. But ya, the PC wagon needs to have its axels broken. At least that'll slow it down to see the double standards, like Yas has pointed out.
  22. I've been playing with the sliders SnB has posted, and they haven't been all THAT bad. I mean actually losing two games is nice. In other news, I've won the Heisman in my 2nd year of RFTH. My wonderful Ted Ginn Jr./Desmond Howard/Charles Woodson clone was THE playmaker for the Irish. 99 yrd kickoff returns? You got it. 80yrd INT returns for six? No problem. 5th Receiver fly routes to burn them with a little speed every once and awhile? Yep. I have to say it was pretty fun, and I defintely reccomend using a corner for RFTH it's a good time. Since my rosters haven't arrived yet (don't know what's taking so long), I'm not going to start my dynasty. Maybe another RFTH w/a linebacker or a d-lineman? Possibly. I really do like this year's version though, I'm almost at the point where I'm going to say it's better than 2004.
  23. QUOTE(YASNY @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 12:46 PM) No. I mean someone capable of driving in 100 runs a year. Not a defensive replacement who happens to hit from the left side. Two words for that: Adam Dunn. The only foreseable problems with getting Dunn is that he'd require a king's ransom worth of prospects and near ML/ML ready talent AND we'd practically have nowhere to put him. Paying the price for Dunn doesn't bother me, but it seems like we're about a half a season too early for him to be a perfect fit. I say this because he could easily fill the void at first next season and make konerko expendable. The only wacky way Dunn would work is if Dye/Everett was moved in the deal, Rowand would swing over to RF, Pods to CF, Dunn to LF...then Dye/Everett would be the 4th OF. However, this would cripple our defense in the OF because we know Rowand is a great CF and Dye > Dunn in the OF. But, Dunn would provide us a ton of OBP and power from the left-side and would set us up for next year at 1st without worrying about Konerko. He's young (only 25), and he's one of the premier power hitters in the game today. To me, that's enough to at least try and make it work.
  24. QUOTE(3E8 @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 03:15 PM) I understand your gripe. But I've never had the chance to watch enough baseball outside of the White Sox (and Cubs if I chose for some reason) to make a valid decision. Watching him play about 10 games per year doesn't really allow me to decipher wether I'm watching a HOF'er or not. Statistics do. Just looking at players who have HOF monitor scores around Palmiero's are all in the Hall. I'm not saying this is the end all be all. It gives me a good idea of when he will be enlisted though. Completely understandable. I was basically just venting on the people that basically plug their ears with stat sheets. However, I'm quite sure that you and most of the people on this site are well aware of both sides of the coin. Believe me, I use statistics just as much as the next guy but there has to be a line where enough is enough...and to me that's these "predictor" dealies.
  25. QUOTE(YASNY @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 02:09 PM) You acn always tactfully educate these tools. ....By gambling on baseball with them. Always works.
