  1. per Roto World: Pirates non-tendered RHP Josh Fogg. Sanity prevails! There's no way Fogg was worth $3 million, though he might be a decent enough middle reliever for some team. Fogg was the Pirates' only non-tender. Dec. 21 - 1:25 am et What would you all think of Fogg as a replacement for Vizcaino? I think it would be worth a shot.

    My rant

QUOTE(kevin57 @ Dec 16, 2005 -> 07:49 PM) While I agree with most of your post, 99 wins sure looks dominant to me. Yeah, that's probably a poor choice of words and that did cross my mind after I posted. What I meant was the Sox didn't dominate in the sense that we rarely blew the other team out. We played a lot of tight games. We seemed to sqeak by game after game and we came real close to losing first place. 99 wins, first place every day of the season and 11-1 in the post season certainly is domination. It just didn't feel like it, at least the second half of the season. The first half I was completely amazed how the Sox just kept winning. It was truly a great season. Even a magical one. My point is we can't expect that to happen again, so changes for improvement are necessary. Identify where the team is weak and address that.

QUOTE(YASNY @ Dec 15, 2005 -> 11:09 PM) What's more risky, standing pat or trying to improve the team? I think there was just a little bit of luck involved. I wouldn't feel too confident going into 2006 counting on the same type of luck. Our luck is almost guarenteed not to be as good. We got a lot of breaks last year. I highly doubt we win as many one run games in 06 as in 05. We certainly weren't dominate during the regular season. I'll definitely miss Rowand, and I would've liked to see El Duque go to the bullpen, but that ain't gonna happen. I think it would've been stupid not to try and improve the team (or any team for that matter). And I think we probably have. The talent on paper does look better. I am a little concerned about the team "chemistry". I wonder how much Everett, El Duque and especially Rowand brought to the table as far as drive and desire to win. If the team still has the "us against them" mentality and the hunger we should do very well. Hopefully Kenny has done his homework on this, and I think he probably has.
  4. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 10:54 AM) Wasn't Jeremy Reed supposed to be a HOF player by now? I mean it seemed like it if you talk to most "knowledgeable" Sox fans(not saying you). If Chris Young turns into Mike Cameron, it won't bother me much at all. If he turns into a Magglio Ordonez with Mike Cameron defense, then I'll say we lost the trade depending on what Vazquez does. Kenny has won it all, he went to sleep, and decided the next morning he liked it so much he wanted to do it all over again. I see Reed is being mentioned in trade rumors now. Looks like Seattle doesn't think he's the second coming. I'm not sure what to think of this trade yet, but I do trust Kenny. I agree wholeheartedly that Williams wants to win it all over again. Hell, so do I!
  5. QUOTE(Mplssoxfan @ Oct 26, 2005 -> 03:03 PM) (you'd think someone of my advanced age would know better, wouldn't you?) I can truly empathize, and it will be PBR and Walkers Deluxe for me.

    Three dimes

During the Cards / Astros game Saturday, they told a story about Roger Clemens' mother. On the day she died she said Shoeless Joe Jackson's name three times. Apparently she was a baseball fanatic and the same day predicted Clemens and the Astros would win that days game 10-2. They did. This story may not mean a thing either, but we are one step closer.
  7. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Oct 17, 2005 -> 09:14 AM) Nasty, greasy ass junk food for lunch, like a double cheeseburger, a pile of fries and a giant coke. Chorizo filled mexican food does it for me. Preferably for breakfast.
  8. My boss left work yesterday to drive up to the Cardinal game. He couldn't tell me no when I asked for the afternoon off to watch the Sox. I drove up to St. Louis with 4 friends for a Rams/Vikings game. One guy laying out the nastiest farts I might have ever smelled. Another thought he s*** his pants and had to drop trouser in the middle of the parking lot at the metro train station to check. Man, I was glad to get outta that car.
  9. QUOTE(DonkeyKongerko @ Oct 7, 2005 -> 07:41 AM) According to Lyons last night during the Braves/Stros game, the White Sox won the World Series in 1919 and 1920. I noticed that too. I've never been that found of the guy who nicknamed himself "Psycho", but he seems to do a decent job of annoucing.
  10. QUOTE(YASNY @ Oct 6, 2005 -> 02:29 AM) I'm glad there is someone besides me that realizes what a masterful job Ozzie did this year. Oh yes, there's more than just you.
  11. QUOTE(Queen Prawn @ Oct 5, 2005 -> 09:48 AM) I refuse to count the chickens before they have hatched. The game 1 win was sweet, but that is all it is 1 win and this series needs 3. GO WHITE SOX! Agreed. We haven't one anything but 1 game so far. Two things it might be good to keep in mind are, this was the biggest playoff offensive output by the Sox since game one of the 1959 World Series and the 5 run first inning, the most runs in an inning since the 1993 ALCS against Toronto. Neither of those turned so well for The Sox. I feel real good about our chances, but it's no time to celebrate.
  12. QUOTE(knightni @ Oct 4, 2005 -> 08:32 PM) McCarver classic: "You know, Joe...When the batter swings and hits the ball, but someone catches it, it's an out." He's outstanding at explaining the fundamentals.
  13. The mute button was invented to silence guys like Berman. One other thing I was wondering, who slipped Mike Piazza (sp) the Big Book of Baseball Cliches? I only saw about a hour of the game on ESPN. I don't think he missed a single one.
  14. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Oct 4, 2005 -> 10:01 AM) Everybody loves an epic tragedy I guess. They were supposedly the best team most anybody at the time ever saw play, including the WS championship team of two years earlier. They were hands-down favorites to beat the Reds, based in large part on the anticipated stellar pitching performance of 29 game winner Ciccote. The facts that the entire success of the Gandil's and the other dirty player's plan to throw the series would come down to getting Ciccote on board (he went 1-2 in the WS of ciourse), and that Ciccote only did agree after Comiskey refused him a promised 30-win season-end bonus are the stuff of Epic Greek Tragedy. Comiskey's miserly ways costiong him teh WS and the franchise its good name, and the ensuing banning of the involved players by Judge Landis – essentially tarnishing them for all eternity – that is powerful stuff. Excellent post BTW.
  15. I think the whole "Black Sox" scandal is a bit of a cult thing. There is a certain "bad boy" stigma and attitude attached to it. National Lampoon used to advertise and sell Black Sox shirts in their magazine. Shoeless Joe has become a mythical figure. Eight Men Out certainly added to this. As someone else has pointed out, people tend to be fascinated with scandal. It is somewhat like the intrigue with gangsters. It's titillating and makes for good reading and viewing. The 1919 jersey's are a way to cash in on this fascination.
  16. I'll watch the first 40 minutes or so at home during my lunch hour. (unless blacked out) Then, depending on how busy I am, listen via internet radio at work.
  17. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Sep 26, 2005 -> 02:05 PM) BTW, there is no reason to take A-row out of the 3 spot in the order. He will thrive there. I agree. I think he should have been there sooner than this.
  18. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Sep 20, 2005 -> 09:17 AM) You first responded to the wrong person. I noticed that you were directing your comment at me, and I answered. You must have somehow missed my response and again asked a question of the wrong person. Yep, I did respond to the wrong person. And I did see your answer after I made my second response.
  19. QUOTE(TheBigHurt @ Sep 20, 2005 -> 09:14 AM) Harsh? LMAO. I don't know what YOU are reading. I'M the one telling people to chill out, they will be fine, they are doing ok, they are not playing terribly. I see almost everyone ELSE being "harsh." You obviously misinterpreted my words. Sircaffey, I was referring to our history with them excluding this year. I have a bad memory, but if any of it serves me correct, The Tribe are a team that's had the Sox's number in the past. Actually I was refering to Millkmandelivers's comments.
  20. QUOTE(TheBigHurt @ Sep 20, 2005 -> 08:54 AM) Are you talking to me? O_o Yes. I'm curious why'd you be a fan of a team you consider to have a "s*** heap" of a history. Just asking a question, not trying to start an argument. We certainly aren't the Yankees, and we do have some duboius history. But your comments seems to pretty harsh for a team you cheer for.
  21. the s*** heap which is the history of the White Sox. If this is how you really feel why are you a fan? Wouldn't you be better off with a different team?
  22. Definitely a fan of the Hawk. I find Rooney and Farmer (especially) way more irritating. Farmer will repeat the same story day after day. Always casting himself as the tough guy in the situation. I really dislike Rooney's announcer impersonations and both he and Farmer use basically the same joke/cynicism over and over in every situation. Ever hear Farmer read a letter that criticizes him? He'll sarcastically refer to it all game long. Atlanta's announcers are only good for inducing naps. The Padres announcers are just terrible (at least in Spring Training). The Red Sox radio guys from 2000, seemed to know absoulutely nothing about the White Sox. Not even basic facts. Give me Hawk and an improving DJ any day.
