  1. Direct TV is blocking the game here in Southern Ilinois is anyone else having this problem? Thanks.
  2. Direct TV is telling me the Sox/Twins are blacked out on WGN. anyone else having this problem? I just watched WEdnesday on WGN.
  3. A similar thing happened to Dave Dravecky of the Giants, while he was piching. http://articles.philly.com/1989-08-16/spor...-cancer-surgery
  4. Maybe we can throw the most gullible Soxtalk users in the trade and get the Cubs #1 draft pick too.
  5. I don't know, a .285 with RISP and .264 for a career are not terrible numbers. They're actually pretty decent. Especially with Gold Glove caliber defense at shortstop. Yeah, he probably has more ABs in the 9th spot the most players, but if he's the all-time leader in RBIs there, then something went right. It's not a guady or major stat, but it still shows nice production. Wasn't the idea to put Ozzie in the 9th spot to be another "leadoff" hitter and to have some speed at the bottom of the lineup.
  6. Give me grinders. They bring excitement and enthusiasm to both the team and fans. This team had a severe lack of fire last year and I don't want to watch another 99 loss sleepwalk again this year. I want players who will get after it.
  7. QUOTE (scs787 @ Nov 22, 2013 -> 03:20 PM) He's not? Everyone is always harping about getting high obp guys on the team and Jay is just that. Ranked 44th last year with a .351, .363 vs RHP. Year before he ranked 17th with a .373. Everyone seems to think De Aza will be traded, and if that's the case the Sox can do A LOT worse than trading Ramirez for Jay and a prospect or 2. I work with a knowledgeable, but slightly cynical Cardinal fan. He claims Jay is "brutal" in centerfield.
  8. Per Rotoworld: FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that the Cardinals have acquired Peter Bourjos from the Angels in exchange for David Freese. There will also be prospects changing hands in the deal, with Randal Grichuk being the rumored piece the Cards will receive. Bourjos sports a .251/.306/.398 career batting line and missed much of 2013 due to injury, but he's an elite defensive center fielder and has flashed promise with the bat in the past. He figures to get plenty of playing time in center field in 2014. Freese is coming off a very disappointing 2013 season but was an All-Star in 2012, when he hit .293/.372/.467 with 20 homers.

    Ryan Braun

Per Rotoworld. Interesting stuff. If they are willing to take Ike Davis, I wonder if they would take Adan Dunn. Not sure having a steroid user is good for the club, but he does have some talent. Matt Cerrone of MetsBlog.com was told by "people familiar with the team’s thinking" that there is a better chance of the Brewers trading Ryan Braun for Ike Davis than Norichika Aoki. Well, that's something. Cerrone adds that the Brewers are willing to pay "a good chunk" of the $113 million remaining on Braun's contract to force a change of scenery in the aftermath of his PED suspension. We're skeptical of the reasoning in general and many teams would likely jump at the opportunity to acquire Braun at a discount after his transgressions, so this scenario is a long, long way from becoming a reality.
  10. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Oct 25, 2013 -> 08:15 PM) Friend of mine sent me a couple of links to Sox games he found on youtube with Harry & Jimmy announcing thought I'd pass them along. Yankees at Sox 6/3/79 Orioles at Sox 4/23/81 Enjoy. Very cool. Thanks!
  11. Yes Gillaspie was traded for, not released. Hard to take someone yelling MEATHEADS seriously when they don't know or bother to look up the facts. Certainly is funny though.
  12. Almost every Sox game on Fox here in So. IL is replaced by any National League game. Not just the Cub or Cardinal games you'd expect. Which the last couple of years has meant no Saturday baseball.

    Rick Hahn

QUOTE (CyAcosta41 @ Jan 4, 2013 -> 11:29 AM) Bingo! I've always been a huge KW fan. Long suffering Sox fan that I've been (remember a Sox-Yankee game as a 5 year old in 1963), I loved that in KW we had a GM who aggressively went balls-out, pedal-to-the-metal, and clearly wanted "it" as badly as the most devout fan. Where he got himself into a bit of trouble is that he seemed to have become a relative easy "read" for other GMs. Like a bad QB, he stared down his intended target, or telegraphed his punches (pick your sports metaphor), and the other GMs took advantage of him by often extracting sometimes incredible overpays. Loved the passion, sometimes hated the execution. Enter Hahn. I wanted KW to have more of a poker face, to have some cunning and guile, to exercise patience. Transparency and all those leaks leading to deals (with overpayments) didn't get us very far in most cases. It's far too early (not to mention unfair) to jump to any sort of conclusion about Rick Hahn. Let's see what the man does. Let him have a track record. Let's watch with greater perspective so we can fairly label his style. In my opinion, criticizing the man for not having a "pulse" is absurd. KW didn't have a pulse, he bled publicly. The time was right for a change, but it's far too early to tell what we have in Rick Hahn. Well said.
  14. Anybody anything about this guy? Could he be 3b help? per Rotoworld. Drew Sutton - 3B - Rays Rays designated INF-OF Drew Sutton for assignment. He batted .271/.314/.354 over 18 games with the big club. There's a chance Sutton will be claimed off waivers, but, either way, he should get another shot in the majors with someone this season.
  15. So I see this thread has slipped to page 4. That makes me wonder, is Jeff "Mickey" Manto still the BEST. HITTING. COACH. EVER?

    De Aza

Didn't see this posted. per Rotoworld. Alejandro De Aza (leg) expects to play Friday. De Aza was removed from Wednesya's game against the Rays after getting hit in the leg by an errant pick off throw. He appeared to be in severe pain, but the 28-year-old center fielder only suffered a stinger and bruising. De Aza is batting .284/.363/.421 with four homers, 22 RBI and 11 stolen bases in 51 games played this season.
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 3, 2011 -> 07:26 AM) McEwing is the one guy I am most excited about on the staff. He has had great reviews from everyone who played for him. Agreed.
  18. LOL! At least we don't have that dumba$$ Guillen and worthless Walker anymore! Right guys!
  19. Good luck Ozzie. You will be missed. I hope you prove your doubters wrong wherever you end up.
  20. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 21, 2011 -> 09:03 AM) I can't remember the last time the Sox were in a game where both teams were warned, let alone because of a HBP by a Sox pitcher. Really? I guess I'm thinking over several seasons and may also be thinking of times where a Sox player got hit and warnings were issued right after that, not giving the Sox a chance to retaliate. But I do recall being frustrated over the umps putting an end to it befoore we could respond properly. Not saying that we actually would have.
  21. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 21, 2011 -> 07:55 AM) But if we give up one extra baserunner, then the coaching staff might not get their 2nd place bonuses. Don't those bonuses also go to clubhouse staff, groundskeepers, office staff, etc? Seems like a good reason for the team to fight for the higest place in the standings. That bonus is probably a pretty big deal to those people.
