Roy's leading returning scorer was David Noel, a walk-on WR recruit that scored 3.9 ppg. His 2nd best option was Reyshawn Terry, a guy who wasn't even 1st team All-State in high school and barely a top 100 recruit. Roy had 3 Mickey D's AA's on the team, all of whom were freshmen. Wes Miller, the teams 5th leading scorer, was a walk-on recruit that transferred from James Madison. Out of the non-freshmen, UNC's highest rated player is Reyshawn Terry, and he wasn't even a top 75 recruit. Roy had one top ten recruit on the squad, Tyler Hansbrough. The rest weren't even top 20 recruits with Danny Green checking in at #24, the next highest rated. So yes, Roy did deserve it this year.

DBAHO, O'Bryant is full of potential. He's 7' 250, and is only 19 years old. He's very mobile for a 7 footer and has good athleticism. He has a 7'5 wingspan, and is a good shot blocker. He dominated Aaron Gray when they played Pitt, posting 28 and 7 rebounds compared to Gray's 12 points and 4 rebounds. This was a shock for alot of scouts because they figured Patrick would have trouble with a physical big like Gray. His negatives, he's still pretty raw on the offensive end, and could use more work in the weight room, but he has plenty of time to develop a mature body at only 19 years old. As for Charlotte and Atlanta, I'm still waiting for the trade I wanted to happen before the season started. Atlanta trading Josh Childress to Charlotte for Brevin Knight. Would have helped both teams a while ago. -
Vitale's top 10 in 2007
Palehosefan replied to Jimbo's Drinker's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
In most draft years? No. But this year, he's as good of a candidate as any. He's much more of a PF than Warrick ever was. Tyrus will never be mistaken for a tweener. He's a true PF with room to grow and a good mid-range jumper to boot. But he's still very thin and inexperienced. -

I'm not expert on the Bulls, but I would think a draft of Rodney Carney and then Patrick O'Bryant would be very solid. -
Oddly enough, LSU doesn't appear to have any 2006 commitments right now.

Vitale's top 10 in 2007

Dick Vitale USED to be the main authority on giving recruiting news to the public. But these days when everyone has access to the information, he's usually left in the dust, and is left to his old cliches used over and over again. He actually used to be a very solid basketball analyst, but as the years wear on, he analyzes less and less and just goes to his cliches. He's a very good man, but he's rolling down the backside of his announcing career. Still, he can evaluate teams very well. He's picked the last 3 or 4 national champions before the year started, but he will miss out this year as he picked UConn. -
Dee Brown is getting ready to shoot in the 3 point contest...

I'm sure you are already aware, but the buttons don't show up below the banner anywhere except the actual home page. If that's by design, then disregard :-). They look good however, Goldy did well as usual.

Greatest College Basketball Team Ever?

I definitely think the 83-84 squad with this lineup was better... PG. Kenny Smith SG. MJ SF. Matt Doherty PF. Sam Perkins C. Brad Daugherty With Buzz Peterson, Joe Wolf, Dave Popson, Steve Hale on the bench. Along with alot of upperclass leadership, UNC had 7 guys on the squad that played in the NBA, or in Steve Hale's case, turned down a NBA contract for medical school. That to me was the best team in history, things just didn't go their way. -
UNC has Wes Miller and Reyshawn Terry as the senior leaders. Both guys contributed heavily to this years squad. UNC returns 81% of their scoring, 77% of their rebounding, 78% of their assists etc. Don't forget that Reyshawn Terry has been making tremendous strides the past two years in the offseason as well. UNC will be adding 3 top 10 players, 1 top 25 player, 1 top 50 player, and 1 top 100 player to the class. UNC will be atleast 2 deep at every position on the floor. Most importantly, UNC will have 4 options at PG, and 4 options in the post, not including Michael Copeland at PF who came on strong at the end of the year in limited minutes. Teams will be run to death this year by Roy, who will have 12 legitimate options to throw in the game.

The game was a great one, everyone on the court passed the ball, outside of Durant, which was expected. Fans criticizing him over last nights game are pretty ignorant. Although I have a feeling some of the fans are just trying to downplay his arrival at GT, even though he was the one that gave Lawson the most trouble defensively in practice. Similarly to the way Jarret Jack caused Felton more problems than anyone.
-
You do realize I posted that before the game even happened. I'm basing my info from alot of practice reports and his previous high school play. He's certainly an upgrade at PG for GT or just about any team in the nation, but he's not going to cure their problem's unless he plays more unselfish. I don't base any of my opinions of players on All-Star games, and I hope nobody else will either.
-
lol, Collins didn't outplay Lawson. Lawson had 4 points, 5 assists, 3 rebounds, and a steal. Collins had 11 points and 3 assists. Lawson didn't look for his own shot, Collins did, as usual. Both are going to be special guards. This class is ridiculously loaded, atleast up top.

Greatest College Basketball Team Ever?

Don't forget that UNC didn't use their bench because they didn't need to. They had talented guys like Jimmy Braddock, and Buzz Peterson, as well as 7'1 Warren Martin for stretches. PG. Jimmy Black vs. Tony Delk(even, Delk better scorer, Black def/distributor) SG. MJ vs. Derek Anderson(MJ big) SF. Matt Doherty vs. Ron Mercer(even) PF. Worthy vs. Walker(Worthy) C. Perkins vs. McCarty(Perkins) Wayne Turner vs. Jimmy Braddock(Shephard slightly, due to p/t) Jeff Shephard vs. Buzz Peterson(same as above) Nazr Mohammed vs. Warren Martin(same reason, Nazr slightly) Tough to say. It's not hard to imagine MJ, Worthy, Perkins, and Doherty running the floor with Black leading the way doing very well in an uptempo style. That plus the height UNC could throw out there if need be, 8 guys 6'8 or over, leads me to believe it would have been a great game. -
I would say UNC, Kansas, Texas(if Aldridge is only departee), and OSU will be the challengers for pre-season #1.

The team had 3 NBA players that scored over 18,000 points in their career, combined with a distributing PG in Black and a perfect role player in Doherty. There wasn't much of a bench, but back in those days there really didn't need to be, especially with the 4 corners being run. UNC only scored 67 ppg, but their defense only allowed 55 ppg. They had a dominant SG defender in Jordan, a good defender at SF in Worthy, and a dominant post defender in Sam Perkins. -
Tough to say. Forgetting the guards. He doesn't have a chance of being drafted over Aldridge, Tyrus Thomas, Andres Bargnani, Joakim Noah, Shelden Williams, Josh McRoberts, Glen Davis, Al Horford, Patrick O'Bryant, etc. Even guys like Hilton Armstrong, Josh Boone, Craig Smith, Nick Fazekas, would be argued over Tyler. Sure, some of those guys will be returning, but that's still a group big enough to push Tyler out of the lottery easily. Tyler has alot of stuff going against him right now for the NBA draft. First, he doesn't have the potential of 90% of the guys in that list, is "only" 6'8 tops, and is already 20 years old. He would be a 1st round pick this year, but not a chance at the lottery. Nothing will change next year, he has alot of stuff to improve on and will have a dominant PG finally playing with him, as well as a dominant PF to play beside him to relieve his double teams. He will be a mid to late 1st round pick next year.

Nah, that's McRoberts that you are thinking of. You hear me Josh? GO.

Rape allegations ground Duke lacrosse for season

Even though it's not a joking matter, there's gotta be some Shelden Williams joke hidden here somewhere. -
Crittendon is tempering my enthusiasm for GT next year. He's a PG that looks for his own shot 1st, which is exactly what GT doesn't need. Sure he will add a defensive presence to the position, but I wonder how much better he will make the team.

Happy Birthday Kap, if it makes you feel any better, both my brother and sister are older than you.

He's also still only 23 years old. He's going to be something else.

That would be kind of fun, they could nickname themselves "Bennet and the one and doner's".
