  1. I've never seen a White Sox prospect go from low A to AAA in one season, awesome. Charlotte will be a nice challenge for him.
  2. He was the first player to commit to UNC basketball or football since June 1st. Talk about a down time.
  3. 2011 SG PJ Hairston committed to UNC tonight after getting an offer yesterday, very nice pick-up. http://northcarolina.scout.com/a.z?s=78&am...amp;nid=3508584
  4. Mine would have to be last years Texas-Texas Tech game where Crabtree made the catch. Craziness.
  5. QUOTE (dasox24 @ Aug 2, 2009 -> 08:15 PM) Except for Brandon Short, that whole Kannapolis lineup is really struggling. They're all batting like .230, .240. Viciedo heating up is getting me pretty excited. If he keeps this up and finishes the year around .300 and continues the power surge, look out... Oh, and I love CJ Retherford. He just produces. 40 XBH's this year so far and the average is at .293 now. Pretty darn good for a second baseman. Yep, I gotta wonder if CJ is going to be given a shot as a starting infielder somewhere, or if he's going to be a utility type guy for most of his career. We don't seem to have an infield position open right now, but he should be decently valuable as an offseason trade chip if need be.
  6. QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 2, 2009 -> 08:01 PM) Palehose, that's great and all but you have to realize your first choice in Figgins is going to need a multi-year deal. Are we really going to need him that much in year 2 of his deal? Years 3 or 4? I just don't think that length of contract fits into our plans... Depends on how much he's looking for. If he's looking for close to 10M a year, then I would forget all about it. If he can be had for 2-3 years 7-8M a year then I would think about it. He's a guy that can play OF, 2B, or 3B and leadoff each game. Jared Mitchell isn't going to be ready for 2-3 years as a potential leadoff man, otherwise we don't really have any leadoff options within my view. If Pods finished off the year hitting .280+ then I'm fine with him being given another shot. He would certainly be much cheaper than Figgins, but not quite as useful.
  7. Here is the lineup I'm hoping for at the moment. LF: Figgins (Pods second choice) 3B: Beckham RF: Quentin 1B: Konerko DH: Dye CF: Cameron(1 year deal to span Danks) C: Pierzynski(Flowers back-up catcher with DH at-bats, pinch hit at-bats) SS: Ramirez 2B: Getz
  8. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 1, 2009 -> 04:27 PM) Tarvaris Jackson sprains his MCL. Brett FavreMichael Vick, your move. There you go :-).
  9. Pat Daneker was clearly the best. I remember his days as the "ace" of the Knights pitching staff.
  10. QUOTE (League @ Jul 30, 2009 -> 05:57 PM) Anyone know the chances of us signing Goodwin? That'd be a hell of a draft. Not very good, Boras has a great relationship with UNC and fully expects Goodwin to be a top 10 pick in 3 years.
  11. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jul 30, 2009 -> 02:10 PM) He only has 6 or 7 errors all season, so it seems he's statistically good. From what you have seen from Dayan all season, do you think LF would be his second position if it becomes clear he's not sticking at 3B?
  12. I can say that he was the best player in Lubbock this past year, over anyone on the Texas Tech roster, and they had a few guys drafted as well. I didn't even realize he wasn't drafted at all. I guess not many scouted LCU this year, even with the championship. Very nice pick-up.
  13. QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 05:06 PM) Has anyone done any research on this tidbit: Pretty interesting to win two nat'l championships in two high-profile sports like that. I don't know if you were kidding or not, but Jared was a back-up WR on that LSU squad, but took last years football season off to focus on baseball thankfully. He was just another athletic WR on the LSU roster, but his talent stood out on the baseball field.
  14. QUOTE (danman31 @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 12:22 PM) Mitchell might be better tools wise for center, but Danks is really good out there. I'd be shocked if Mitchell forces Danks to a corner. Danks won't be going there on his own. Yeah, there's no doubt we would be fine with Danks in CF for years to come. I just believe that Mitchell has the potential to be an elite CF with more experience with full-time baseball. Brandon Short is another guy that could be a good one in a few years.
  15. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 11:20 AM) Mitchell will not play CF at the big league level. I wish people would stop thinking that just because he has speed he is a CF'er. With him in a corner and JorDanks in CF, we will cover a TON of ground. I think that's pretty uncertain at this point. Mitchell hasn't had a ton of time in the OF, but he clearly has the tools to be an above average CF. He has an average arm, and make-up speed. Danks has a plus arm, and average speed for a CF. I think Mitchell in CF and Danks in RF will be our best set of defensive OF, but we will see.
  16. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Jul 28, 2009 -> 09:42 PM) I will be glad to see when we get a fundamentally sound baseball team that knows how to play baseball. A-men.
  17. Don't forget David Holmberg. He just turned 18 last week and has a 4.97 ERA for Bristol. He has good size at 6'4 220, and has pitched well his last two outings after struggling early. 3 IP, 2 hits, 0 ER, 1 BB, 1 K 4 IP, 2 hits, 1 ER, 0 BB, 2 K
  18. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 27, 2009 -> 09:07 PM) This defense is so comical. It's crazy to think it's way below average at every position besides two tonight. LF, 2B and 1B? I'm sure you are thinking of 2B/1B. But I think Carlos is average for a LF.
  19. Jeez, did Pods stop to tie a shoe on that one?
  20. Jared Mitchell 1-1 with a BB, and his first stolen base after getting caught earlier in the game. Its pure greatness to see Kenny Williams Jr. leading off for Kannapolis. Has to be Nepotism at it's finest.
  21. Charlotte lost 13-10. Flowers 2-6 with 4 K's. Brian with another homer. All of the sudden the Charlotte lineup looks pretty good, but it's probably too late for them. Link stunk it up again, he has really been struggling. Birmingham off Winston-Salem won 4-3. Mollenhaeur 2-4, hitting .293. Greene 1-3, seems to be holding his own in high A Morel 2-4, quickly rising up our prospect rankings. Hitting .273 with 13 HR, 60 RBI's and 19 steals. Kannapolis won 3-2. Gilmore 2-4 Mitchell 2-4 with two doubles, has 5 multi hit games in his first 9 professional appearances. Freddie pitched 3 scoreless innings striking out 3 and walking 1. Nevin got the win by pitching 5 innings, allowing 2 ER and striking out 6, it seems his stuff is really starting to come back. Remenowsky pitched another scoreless inning striking out 1. ERA at 1.86 with 68 K's in 38 and 2/3's innings. Bristol lost 2-0. Shoemaker finally held hitless(or not, finished 1-3), still needs to be in Kannapolis. Miguel Gonzalez 1-3. Great Falls won 5-3 Ciolli 2-4, still hitting, seems like he deserves Kanny with Shoemaker soon. Colligan 1-3, hitting at .293 and hitting for power. Vargas 1-3, cruising in rookie ball, but got destroyed in Kanny earlier this year.
  22. If the Heat can find a legit SF for Beasley they will be absolutely set. Otherwise there's an overflowing mismatch of minutes between Odom, Beasley, Haslem, DQ Cook, James Jones, and Diawara. I wonder if the Wizards would be interested in trading Caron Butler for Michael Beasley and Udonis Haslem. Then the old Heat gang could be back together.
