  1. You want to give up Jenks, Contreras, and Fields for a 2-3 years younger version of Fields?
  2. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 19, 2009 -> 08:41 PM) First time watching Poreda live. Where is the big heater? Being clocked at 90 mph. His arm seems to liven up as he throws more pitches.
  3. 3-4 for Allen tonight.
  4. QUOTE (Adele_H @ Jun 19, 2009 -> 06:42 PM) Unfortunately, if pitch-recognotion, strike-zone management and hand-eye coordination (read: bat control) aren't top notch, no amount of power/speed will help a player succeed in the majors. Chris Young, Felie Pie and Corey Patterson are finding that out the hard way -- and Shelby is a lesser talent IMO. His struggles in AA do not surprise. If you somehow expected Shelby to struggle like this at AA, you might want to play the lottery. Here's Shelby's past two seasons. A: .301 AVG 16 HR 79 RBI's 19 SB's A+: .295 AVG 15 HR 80 RBI's 33 SB's
  5. Tough way for the UNC seniors to go out. Most wins in history of college baseball for the class, 4 CWS appearance, and bupkus to show for it.
  6. Just wouldn't be June without UNC choking another CWS away.
  7. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Jun 18, 2009 -> 04:09 PM) I have dog named Bowser. He is a border collie mix and maybe the spawn of satan. LOL, you aren't kidding. I have a border collie mix and he can be pure evil. He's smart as hell and he knows it. I also have a pit bull, and he is the sweetest dog in the world. The 40 pound border collie mix kicks the 55 pound pit bulls ass all the time.
  8. Mike Piazza is still clearly the best hitting catcher of all-time, but if Mauer can keep this up, he will be close. For 5 seasons from 1993-1997, here is Piazza's average year... .336 AVG, 34 HR, 105 RBI If you expand it to include his next 5 seasons of 1998-2002, the average drops, but nothing else. .308 AVG, 36 HR, 105 RBI Piazza from 1993-2002 of 10 seasons .322 AVG, 35 HR, 105 RBI Hard to beat that from the catching position.
  9. It seems that Danks has had a nagging injury the past few games. Might be the reason for his recent "slump".
  10. QUOTE (zenryan @ Jun 10, 2009 -> 01:44 PM) I know it happens to all the good programs but for some reason it seems like UNC is getting cherry picked this draft. UNC always loses 3-4 top 100 prospects in the draft, that's the price that Mike Fox pays with being an elite recruiter. Rick Porcello and Madison Bumgarner among others would be pitching for UNC this year as well.
  11. Sox just took Brian Goodwin, a top 100 OF, committed to UNC. Not sure what to think.
  12. Holy crap, the Marlins just drafted a dude named Sequoyah Stonecipher. That is awesome.
  13. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 10, 2009 -> 12:16 PM) So Dyson is the only one still available. Please find a way to take him Sox. I think the A's took him at the end of the 10th. Well mid-10th.
  14. Article on Justin Jones, http://www.modbee.com/sports/highschools/story/734017.html
  15. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jun 10, 2009 -> 11:37 AM) I really dont care about the stats. I mean, look at Hudson and Carter, if we can get guys with live arms and have a good chance at fixing their mechanics or whatever to improve them, then Im fine with the pick. Just dont give me a crap pitcher who also doesnt have the stuff just because you want to go cheap. Hudson and Carter both gave up less hits than IP, and both had better strikeout numbers. Hitters have no problem with Collops stuff apparently.
  16. QUOTE (Dizzy Sox @ Jun 10, 2009 -> 11:28 AM) 6th Round Justin Collop RHP U. of Toledo LOL, his numbers are hideous. 6.51 ERA(ok, no big deal) 76 IP, 96 hits, 63 K's.
  17. Bellamy is apparently a side-armer for Miami.
  18. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 09:30 PM) Giants, Royals, Diamondbacks, Rangers have had incredible picks. You can add Seattle to the list as well. They added a potential starting OF, 1B, and 3B/2B with Ackley, Poythrees, and Kyle Seager.
  19. Man, Seattle is just killing it. Kyle Seager is Ackley's teammate at UNC and was UNC's second best hitter. He's a very good talent as well.
  20. From BA. TRAYCE THOMPSON, OF, SANTA MARGARITA HS Thompson is the son of Mychal Thompson, the former NBA star who played on several Los Angeles Lakers NBA championship clubs in the 1980s, and the bloodlines show. A 6-foot-4, 200-pound outfielder, Thompson has terrific bat speed, and his future power potential is exciting. He has a great frame that's both athletic and projectable, and his arm strength is impressive. The primary drawbacks are his instincts and feel for the game. He has the look of a player who is relatively new to baseball and is still learning the basics. He often hesitates in the outfield and won't attempt to throw out runners trying to advance, or will defer to other fielders on balls hit in the gaps. Thompson generates terrific bat speed, but his swing is long on the back end and his timing is affected by his habit of pulling out his front side too quickly. Thompson's selection in this draft would be made on potential alone. If he goes to UCLA, develops his skills and gains experience, he would likely be a much higher pick in 2012.
  21. QUOTE (BearSox @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 08:09 PM) can we keep info about the game out of here? I'm tivoing the game right now, and focusing on the draft... Sorry, now that you asked, I'll stop.
  22. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 08:09 PM) What happened? Dontrelle had a pitch close to AJ's head, and the next at-bat there was some jawing on the way back from AJ being thrown out at first.
  23. Sox and Tigers benches cleared, AJ and Dontrelle jawing.
  24. OT: looks like Beckham can play 3B after all. I for one was wrong.
