  1. Don't slit your wrists over Mitchell. He's the best athlete in the draft, 20 years old, and has great power potential as well. He was a kid that bench pressed 335 pounds and squatted 450 pounds before he stepped on LSU's campus. He has a funky, loopy swing right now that can really be shortened up. He also uses a one-handed swing often that limits his power. His swing can have a ton of work on it, which can be good news with the right coaching. Josh Fields, Joe Borchard, Brian Anderson etc all had swings that were pretty much set, and just never could close the hole in the swing.
  2. Ending up with Brothers and Mitchell would be perfect. Couldn't ask for more.
  3. Shelby Miller would be an amazing pick. Keep falling.
  4. I'm not crazy about Arnett, I hope we stay away there. Well crap, White is going to be a good one.
  5. Interesting. Maybe Cleveland will have a brain fart and pass up Alex White. Maybe.
  6. Will Texas pass up Shelby Miller for Alex White? Would be the smart choice.
  7. Nationals will get immediate help with Stras and Storen, great jobs.
  8. UNC officially hates the Tigers now. First Porcello, and now Turner.
  9. If the Tigers get White, I'm going to be sick. He has fantastic stuff, just needs to refine it like Daniel Bard.
  10. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 05:17 PM) Tate would have probably gone to Oakland at 13, otherwise he'd have been long gone. Pads are going to shell out some dough to sign him, probably takes 4-5M, he's asking for 6. It took 6M to sign 4 of the top 5 last year, and I think it will at least take that much to get Tate. He and Boras love UNC and Tate's dad was a pro, so money isn't an issue. Now it will be interesting to see where another UNC commit, Jacob Turner ends up.
  11. There's not really a good comparison for Ackley out there. He's a unique player. He was a blast to watch for 3 years.
  12. I wonder if Shelby Miller or Jacob Turner fell to us because of their monetary demands if Kenny would take a chance.
  13. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jun 8, 2009 -> 10:49 PM) Seriously Off Topic: I love TCQ, but he's gotta stop being so damn injury prone. I know it isn't his fault, but he's like Luol Deng in baseball cept more talented. I'm on the fence to whether let him ride cause he's such an elite talent, or trade him and get a f*** ton for him in about 2-4 years. I would love for the Sox to trade Carlos asap because I don't think he will ever be truly healthy. But don't tell anyone :-P.
  14. I think Mitchell's power could also be intriguing. He's absolutely ripped and bench pressed 335 pounds, and squatted 450 pounds before arriving on LSU's campus. If someone can correct his swing, he could be a special talent. If his swing can't be corrected then we might end up with Esix Snead.
  15. Here's a short video of Mitchell, I apologize if already posted. http://mlb.mlb.com/media/video.jsp?content_id=4751605 You can see that he has a one-handed swing that can be corrected, and the ridiculous speed.
  16. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 8, 2009 -> 10:22 PM) Technically speaking, Lauman is all about the athletes as is Kenny so it fits more into the current regimes MO. I know they took Anderson and Fields in the past as well, but for the most part they stayed away from the big outfielders. I still think one of Lauman's best picks was the Chris Young selection and I hope he can find us another one of them (not becuase YOung became a star, but because he had awesome trade value for a latter round selection). To be honest, I'm more of a Mitchell fan than most on this board that I have read. I wouldn't be terribly upset with the pick. I think he fits nicely into the possibility of the CF leadoff role, almost in line with Allen, Flowers, Danks, Beckham, Retherford's timetable.
  17. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 8, 2009 -> 10:18 PM) Bad news, I'll be shocked if it's not Mitchell. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/chi-0...0,5772928.story Mitchell is the type of toolsy hole-in-the-swing player that the previous scouting regime would have loved to take at the top of the draft. Multi-sport athlete with a hole in the swing? Check.
  18. Remember how fast he started out last year? Hopefully he can keep this one going.
  19. Also nice to see Retherford still hitting. He went through a mini-slump there for about a week. I keep waiting for his average to slump, but he keeps plugging along.
  20. No, it wasn't an easy shot, and now Redick is taking his place as the scapegoat, horrendous set of plays for Redick.
  21. Magic can beat the Lakers tonight clearly, but the refs might be too much to overcome.
  22. I hate this commercial everytime..... everytime..... everytime.
