QUOTE(knightni @ Feb 28, 2005 -> 03:18 PM) Sooo.. can anyone give me a general synopsis of the Rock/Penn exchange? I missed it. Chris Rock joked in the beginning of the show by asking who is Jude Law? Knowing that Law has been around for some time now in the last couple of years. Later on, when Penn showed up, he seriously answered Rock’s question by saying that Law is a fine actor. The man has absolutely no joy in him. Takes everything too serious.

QUOTE(qwerty @ Feb 27, 2005 -> 11:17 PM) How you guys think chris rock did tonight? I thought Chris Rock did a good job last night. His monologue was funny and relatively short, the taped piece at the Magic Johnson Theater was a good bit (man alive do I love Albert Brooks!), and throughout the night he had good lines and kept things moving. I don't think he hit it out of the park, but it was a solid double driving in a couple runs. I'd grade it a B overall. I think looking at the ratings and the way he was received by the audience in the seats and on stage (Sean Penn's humorlessness not withstanding), they'll probably ask Rock back again in future years. Don't know if it'll be next year necessarily or if they'll try to keep mixing it up a bit, and I don't know if he'd even take the job again, but yeah, he'll definitely be asked back. Albert Brooks would make a great host. As would Gary Shandling. But despite being incredibly brilliant comedic minds who are lightning quick on their feet, the producers of the telecast will never have them host the show. They don't have enough of the kind of brand-name recognition that makes advertisers and network executives get chubbies. And their deadpan styles would be feared too subtle. I'd like to see Steve Martin come back a couple more times as host too. But as the Chris Rock experiment payed off for them, if they start trying new faces for the duty I'm sure they'll keep skewing younger rather than older. I hope Conan O'Brien gets his shot in the next few years, and I wouldn't be surprised if he does (his work on other awards shows in recent years has been building a good resume for the job). I think he'd be very good too, lots of fun. Of course this is coming from one of the lone voices in the wilderness who thought Letterman was far and away the best Oscar host in the past fifteen years, so.... Jon Stewart may well start getting offered the gig, and while I love him and think "The Daily Show" is beyond brilliant, I suspect Jon will turn them down. I wouldn't be shocked to hear Ben Stiller's name thrown into the mix in coming years either, and he'd be a pretty good choice. But Shandling, Albert Brooks and Letterman are all at the top of my Oscar host wishlist...and I don't expect to see any of them actually get the job. Unfortunately.

QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Feb 27, 2005 -> 10:43 PM) just curious, but are you under the age 25? Does my age have anything to do with the conversation we’re having? BTW, check people’s profiles if you’re curious about age and all that stuff...

QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Feb 27, 2005 -> 10:23 PM) furthermore, what message does this send to (if he were still alive) Christopher Reeves? more importantly to his family? his accident was some 10 years ago, and all that time he had with his family instead of giving up like Maggie did? As far as I know, this film was not intended to send any message to Reeve’s family. Let’s not forget that this film (Million Dollar Baby) is fictional. Plus, Swank’s character came into the world suffering and left it suffering as well. That’s all there is to it. ... and there goes Eastwood again.

QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Feb 27, 2005 -> 10:23 PM) did you see any of the other movies/women up for an oscar? First and foremost, don't you think there'd be an alarm if Maggie's heart monitor went flat? Eastwood pulled the plug on Hillary Swank’s character when the nurses weren’t around. I remember correctly that they were going out for lunch so at that same time Eastwood’s character injected her, meaning no one was around to hear any alarm of some sort. ... and there goes Eastwood with the Oscar.
-
Best Actor goes to Jamie Foxx. No problem with that. ... though Eastwood is nominated for best director isn't he?
-
WTF are you guys talking about? Hillary Swank deserves that Oscar. Now all we need is Clint Eastwood for Best Actor.

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Feb 27, 2005 -> 09:19 PM) I don't understand. I know your referring to Bonds but Aaron holds the record. Didn't Bonds already pass Ruth? NO. Barry Bonds currently has 703 HRS. He needs about 12 more to catch up with the Babe.

Welcome to Soxtalk! Hope you enjoy your stay here with us.

Sidney Lumet... The man is truly a great director. Serpico starring Al Pacino is a favorite of mine. Lumet deserves the Oscar.

This is starting to look like the Sammy vs. Dusty fracas. Just ignore Maggs... he’s just starving for attention. Kenny just better keep his mouth shut, he has the tendency to respond to almost everything.

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Feb 27, 2005 -> 08:01 PM) Uuuuuum, last time I checked....Henry Aaron holds the record for HR? :headshake Did I ever say that Babe Ruth holds the record for HR’s, domeass? I said “his remarkable record.”

The guy was overweight, but somehow he was still able to hit the ball. A great man indeed, no question about it, its just sad that some cheat will pass his remarkable home run record at any moment.

I have Dial-Up and have absolutely no problem. 56k...

I’m staying spoiler free. I haven’t seen a single pic. The most I have seen is that one trailer they released some time ago.
