  1. i want in, fantasy baseball rocks, how do i get in
  2. If anyone has any more pics like this please share them here. And yeah the park looks kick ass with the new dark green seats.
  3. First let me say these are from a WSI, a buddy of mine emailed them to me. They are sweet!!
  4. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jan 27, 2006 -> 09:56 PM) I think they should paint the facades of the club level and upper deck green, and get rid of those ridiculous pinwheels they have lining the facade of the club level. They look like mints. I drove by too, it looks way better with the green seats. About the pinwheels thing, yeah i Could do without those, but its better to have something there than nothing, which was the problem before. I would like to see a little more exposed concrete (now mostly painted dark colors) bricked over or added to some unique aspect. Something like adding some wrought iron (gray or black or green). Maybe some old fashoned lanterns (even just for show) would be cool. A little brick and ivy (or bush) here or there. Some stuff like that would be really cool.
  5. This what I expected, and wanted. McCarthy can be an ultra utility bullpen pitcher for us. I loved seeing come out of the pen in Aug and Sept when Duque or someone else needed to be bailed out. He kept us in many a games and will make our bullpen stronger.
  6. Pure Class act, you gotta love Paulie!!
  7. QUOTE(AirScott @ Jan 19, 2006 -> 02:33 AM) I said it in the Neyer thread, it'll be tighter this year than last, as the Twins should be back to usual, and will be improved with Castillo in the lineup. Eh the twins I dont really give them much credit. Morneau and Hunter are in a feud, Hunter's thug buddy Jones is gone, and they still have no names playing at RF, 3B, and SS.
  8. http://www.danryanexpressway.com/ As part of the reconstruction from 31st st (the beginning) to I-57 (the end) the Dan ryan will be reduced to 50% capacity between 31st and the Skyway starting in March. All express lanes will be closed and only Local lanes will be open. This is going to be an absolute mess.
  9. Cubs fans who use the on field incidents at the cell as for taking shots at the sox and their fans are so dumb. Most of them are such bad fans they dont even know about their own terrible incidents at wrigley. Fan beating up Randy Myers on the field after he gave up a go ahead homer in 1995, bullpen brawl with the Dodgers in 2000, Concrete falling and fan saftey concerns, Pedestrian shot and killed on Clark st after a game in 2004. I mean come on did they just forget these things happen, NO THEY JUST NEVER KNEW BECUASE THEY BECAME A CASUAL CUBS FAN LIKE A YEAR AGO. Either that or they just need to be remined as they problably blocked it out.
  10. QUOTE(South Side Fireworks Man @ Jan 11, 2006 -> 10:05 PM) That's enough! My dad got a double hernia last summer when we were water skiing in Lake Geneva. He had this new procedure where their is no anestesia or incision, its really quick and painles. It involved placing a small fiberoptic tube that inflates or something and fixes the tear in the hernia, only a small pinhole is made in the skin, and its made in the abdomen not groin. It only took like 2 or 3 days to recover fully from anyway. Of course there was some physical therapy afterward but he was back to playing golf and softball with me in about a month.
  11. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Jan 11, 2006 -> 12:33 AM) http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sp...tesox-headlines That's awful telling Boras makes me sick to my stomach. THat being said the sox are stuck with him this time. I wouldn't go nuts about it even when he starts the bidding for crede at 5 years 50 Mil. The sox dont like to sign boras players from the market. But remember Crede is not on the market, so boras cant inflate a simple supply demand situation. Id say Crede signs for something like 1.3-1.5 Mil in 2006 and if he cant play enough games or is hindered by his back he will be gone in 07.
  12. Bradford, Fogg, and Camp I could all see signing minor league contracts. All have potential to be servicable out of our pen. Some work with coop can rescue anyone.
  13. From the stuff I have heard from season tix holders as well as info from here and WSi it sounds like the sox have sold between 18-22K tix per game already. 18K being the low on non exciting matchups and cold weather months and 22K the high at better matchups and in the summer. That being said Opening Day, Cubs, Yanks, Red Sox, Cards, etc are locks for sell outs. So I would assume 20 sellouts, 20 under 30,000 crowds, and 40 over 30,000 crowds. Lets assume sellouts = 40.5K Lets assume under = 25K Lets assume over = 35K (40.5 *20) + (25*20) + (35*41) = (810K) +(500K) + (1435K) = 2,745,000 Fans Or an average of 33,888 or rounding up we get 34K and Id say that sounds about right. That would put us in the top 3 or so in our league.
  14. Last night I noticed something. I was wathching SportsCenter at like 5 AM after a long night of drinking and hope I saw what I thought I saw. The SC intro montage video where they show a short clip from each sport; I thought I saw the baseball clip is now of a Sox hitter, I think Iguchi's homer in Game 2 of the ALDS. Thats what I thought I saw, can anyone else confirm or deny this, or was I Delusional with soxdom again.
  15. QUOTE(TLAK @ Dec 16, 2005 -> 07:53 AM) But 1. he kept all the guys you said had career years and won't repeat their performances. 2. is the net combination of Thome/Anderson/Owens better than Everett/Thomas/Rowand? 3. he already had a great backup plan for the 5th spot in BMac, so why Vazquez? 1. What I meant was that these guys had career years, the definiton being their breakout year, their best performance yet. They dont call it a career year if its expected over and over, it happens once. Im glad our guys did what they did I dont see Hermy starting out with a 0.00 ERA into mid may again and politte with a sub 1.00 ERA at the ASB. Our guys our good, but regression towards the mean (towards career averages) is more likely than a repeat performance of a career year. 2. The question is does Thome/Anderson make us better than Rowand/Everett, Thomas was out of the mix in 2005 for all I am concerned and not part of the regular deal. The answer is yes, or the sox would not have done this deal. Thome can be a flat out force and could put up numbers at the Cell we have never seen before. As for Rowand his .270 BA could be easily replaced even if Anderson hits .260 his rookies yea I beleive he can be consisten .280+ hitter with above average power. The real question is do our upgrades make us better than the players we lost and the Answer is yes. The game is a team game, Vazquez makes our whole team better as does Thome. Mackowiak too makes us a deeper more well rounded team. 3. Did he. McCarthy is still an unproven commodity. Can he pitch 200+ innings, can he be effective the whole time? Will the league adjust? The sox rotation amased more innings than ever before, Vazquez is insurance for being an inning eater. Having McCarthy as your 5th starter gives you 4 solid startes and 1 question mark/ rookie experiemnt. After winning the world series is it time to experiemnt with minor leaguers I dont thinks so. Its time to be the best you can be. 5 proven starters, who can go late into games and have the experience and talent to become a dominat piching force is what KW wanted. How do you make a great team better, YOU ADD TO YOUR STRENGTHS!!!
  16. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Dec 16, 2005 -> 05:35 AM) The pyyagorean is the most ridiculous thing ever imo, you can't tell me how many games a team is going to win by plugging in numbers. Sorry, nuh uh, doesn't work that way. Thats actually not the way the sox do it, just the most popular way. The sox do a different way where they numerize players into how many wins they are worth to come up with net gains or losses in the trades. And by the way Im not saying its a good prediction, Im not saying its right, Im just saying its an acceptable way to make a reasonable estimate. Im in a 500 level Stat and Probability class now, most people dont realize the power in statistical analysis and how it relates to trends. We have done dozens of problems from Genetic Disease, smoking, population, and even baseball. Its accurate for what is inputed, the problem is garbage in = garbage out, you cant predict every variable and lots of things change over the course of the year.
  17. QUOTE(TLAK @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 09:28 PM) He has trash canned the best hitter I ever saw in Frank Thomas and traded the man threw the best single ½ inning a baseball I have ever seen in my life, in Orlando Hernandez. He disposed of the epitome of the World Championship team in Aaron Rowand, a guy we watched grow and regress in Marte and a guy who took one for the team in April that haunted his entire season in Vizcaino. He discarded Carl Everett who carried the offense at times. He dismissed the man who hit a game winner in the first World Series the team went to in 46 years. He is bringing in some big names to replace them but I miss my guys. I waited all my 53 years for a championship and now 6 of the 25 heroes from the playoff roster plus Frank – a quarter of them – are gone and we haven’t even gotten to spring training yet. The magic of 2005, of our guys, a team that nobody else respected but knew in its heart it could do it, a team that got great plays from the most unlikely sources is gone. The warmth I felt for the team going against all probabilities is being replaced fantasy baseball-like expected run production ratios. When Williams starts his BS about the Sox being a family all the players need to do is look how Frank, Aaron, Orlando, Damaso, Luis, Geoff and Carl were all s*** canned within 2 months of winning the ring for them -great family. When is Kenny going to stop killing the best thing that ever happened to the White Sox for a half century? Kenny knows you cant repeat the magic, you cant repeat luck, and you cant repeat the career years posted by Garland, Cotts, Politte, Hermy, Contreras, and others. The sox with all their strength using the most commong statistical formula (the pythagorean formula) were projected to be a 90 win team. They won 99 games, they overachieved. That being said how do we win 99 games again without the intangibles and the balls bouncing our way. You upgrade, remove the weakest pieces from the whole season and improve them. Thome is an upgrade over Everett, Anderseon might even hit higer than Rowand's .270, Vazquez is an upgrade over the 5+ Era and 2 DL stint El Duque. Kenny knows that the sox did to win the world series might never happen again, magic, we got hot at the right time. The red sox and yankees were weak and cleveland with a better starting staff than us started out like 15-30. The ball may not bounce the sox way again and KW did what he had to do to keep this team competitive. Rowand was great so we say thanks for all the great plays in center its time to move on. El Duque was great in 1/2 inning in boston so we say thank you now we need a btter #5 pitcher. You cant keep him around based on what he did in 1/2 inning. You need to get back the playoffs first and get back to the world series second. Those are not things easily done with a 5th starter who makes 20 of the normal 35 starts and posts a 5+ era. Thank You Blum, Rowand, El Duque, and Everett; it all came together and they were part of something special. Life goes on and another season approaches. The clock doesn't stop ticing just because we won the world series, everyone else out there is getting better too.
  18. QUOTE(kevin57 @ Dec 15, 2005 -> 01:06 PM) I would like to believe this is a White Sox town, but certainly not yet, I'd say. The Sox made some blunders in their marketing so that many, many 30-40 year olds (yes, that key demographic) barely relate to the Sox as a Chicago team, let alone cheer for them. As has been said, this used to be a Sox town. It can again be one. But it will take time to rebuild it as so. What is not noted in this article is if the Trib dumps the Cubs because of their financial problems (anyone see how the Braves are being dumped by their conglomerate?), how much that will change the "Cub town" dynamic. Funny, I hate this converstation with a guy here at school I met last night at the poker table. We were talking and when I said I was from the South of Chicago he said sox fan right. I said of course. My friend from home town (Flossmoor) was also there with me and hes a cubs fan. The guy himself was from Zionsville, a prominent Indianapolis suburb. He said he was a colts, pacers, and cubs fan. I didn't even ask why, I just turned to him and said "WGN came in on your cable at home when you were growing up right". He turned to me and said "exactly" why I am cubs fan. The point is cubs fans or so they call themselves, are more like follows of the incumbent. They are cubs fans by defualt becuase there was no choice. It is these people I have the least respect for. Problem being the real cubs fans, ones from chicago, I respect becuase at least they made their decision with both games in town or by family alleginace. Not just becuase WGN is a defualt channel and 99% of cable systems in this country. The real problem is something sox fans have said for years against cubs fans claiming their huge national following and cub nation. Its basically made up of out of towners, tourists, and people that get WGN hundreds of miles away from Chicago. Most baseball teams are broadcast at best 100 miles away from their city. These WGN cubs fans as I like to call them dont really know anything. They jsut walk around with a cubs hat and beleive bracelet becuase they find confident in numbers. Numbers that even real cubs fans are ashamed above. Cubs fans everywhere WGN raised or the real ones main argument on their superiorty is always look at our packed stadium, look at the cubs fans on the road, look at all the cubs supporters nation wide. And thats exactly it, they are just casual supporters, not fans. They dont know the cubs traded Joe Carter for Rick Sutcliffe, they dont remember when the Cubs had Randall Simon, they dont know Cory Patterson's real name is Donald, and they certaintly dont know who Bobby Howry or Scott Eyre are (and they played for the sox in 2000). Going to school in Indiana and traveling around the midwest has proven this to be the case to me for some time now. The problem isn't going to go away, but if everyone on both sides acknowledged the fact we would get along better. I dont want to fight with Cubs "Supporters" I wanna fight with cubs fans (from chicago). Too bad the cubs fans cant draw the line between their own. Their loss!!
  19. QUOTE(Tadahito Iguchi @ Dec 15, 2005 -> 01:00 AM) After the Vasquez deal what will Williams do now and who will the White Sox recieve? Sox sign Uggie Urbina!!
  20. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Dec 15, 2005 -> 01:33 AM) Ugliest catcher in MLB history. Mike Caruso. I remember some game in like 99 or something where Caruso hit a walkoff 2 or 3 run homer at home one night. I was there with my friends around the age of 16, jokingly being like I gurantee Caruso hits a walk off here and BOOM, NA NA NA NA!! Awsome
  21. I totally agree. The worst thing you can do after winning the World Series is do nothing and be afraid of breaking something up. Yes El Duque was pivitol in that game in Boston and helped in Game 3 in Houston. Yes AAron Rowand was part of the personality of this team. But ya know what you gotta say thanks for the help now its time to move on. You helped get us a ring and in turn we all celebrated but life goes on and we have to make this team the best it can be for next year and the years after. Thome makes us better, Vazquez makes us better, Mackowiak makes us better and ya know what you cant sit on your hand and do nothing becuase the other guys were friends in the clubhouse. The object is to win not make people happy. Crede and AJ will make new friends, same with contreras. All yo do is make sure you dont bring in bad apples and your chemistry will be fine. The white sox won 99 games with a lot of calls going their way, good fortune, and some career years from unexpected players (cotts, politte, hermy, garland, contreras). So ya know what we need to get better cuz there is no gurantee the intangebiles that won us some games will be back, even if we stood pat. KW is saint to this organization and i Believe he should recieve a bonus or extension. He approaches the game the right way and is a true professional of the GAME.
  22. QUOTE(BurlyMan56 @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 05:13 PM) I personally would love to see Baj take Viz's spot in the pen. I think a lefty reliever has to be included in any deal if they trade Garland. Garland is not going to be traded. The only way hes going to be traded is if they can't agree on a 1 year deal on go to arbitration, the sox dont want to pay $10 mil this year for him. I can see them argreeing to a $7 mil deal or so for this year. Thats not to say he doesn't get traded at the deadline if the sox can get good players in return for him. What more likely is a trade of Harris or Gload + prospects for some available relievers like Batista (tor), Julio (O's), or Baez (rays).
  23. With the acquisition of Vazquez we have definate holes in our pen. If McCarthy goes to the pen we are still 1 arm short, if not 2 arms short. I have seen the Jays dangel Miguel Batista as trade bait as well as the O's Jorge Julio. Also I heard Beaz is still available from the Rays. So i think the sox could trade for the releiver of choice sometime soon. It might not take as much as one would think to get them, possible Harris or Gload + prospect might do it. What do you think, i thinkw we still need bullpen help and one of these guys would be perfect.
  24. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 02:09 PM) Ken Rosenthal says we will receive $5 million from Arizona in the deal: http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/5163266 Conflicting reports on the money, interesting to see what happens when it becomes official. IF Rosenthal is right then $2.5 mil per year is OK, the USAToday report would be better getting $4 mil per year. If Rosenthal is right then the Sox are gonna pay a net of $3 Mil for Vazquez in 06. In 07 they will pay $10 Mil , which is rather steep, but Contreras and Garland do come off the books.
  25. QUOTE(drowninginflame @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 01:56 PM) Dude knows his math Civil Engineering @ Purdue.
