  1. Source USA Today: http://www.usatoday.com/sports/baseball/20...s-vazquez_x.htm The sox are going to get 1/3 of Vazquez Salary picked up. He is due $24 mil over the next two seasons at 11.5 Mil in 06 and 12.5 Mil in 07. The Dbacks are sending $8 Mil to the sox or $4 Mil per year to pay his contract. So in bare net form the sox are going to pay $7.5 Mil in 06 and $8.5 Mil on 07. There is more. El Duque was owed at least $4.5 Mil in 06 and Viscaino about $1.5 Mil. After adding the $7.5 mil and subtracting the sum of El Duque and Viscaino of $6 Mil it turns out the Sox are only adding $1.5 Mil to the payroll this year for Vazquez. AMAZING!! Next year Garland and Contreras come off the books so in case on of them does not sign cough Garland cough Vazquez is still a steal at $8.5 Mil on the books for 07. Given the ridiculous price for pithcing in the current market with guys like Burnett getting $11 Mil, Milwood getting $11 Mil, Jaret Wright getting $7 Mil, Kenny Rogers getting $8 Mil we should be extatic we are paying Vazquez less than market value at $7.5 and $8.5 Mil. WAY TO GO KENNY!!
  2. QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 08:25 AM) Boys, the aquisition of Javier Vazquez is a nice move. We gave up jack s*** to get him (though Chris Young will be a nice talent). Now, this begs the question, what happens with B-Mac. This kid is ready to start at the major league level, so... I believe there is another deal going down, and I think either Freddy Garcia, Jon Garland, or Jose Contreras will be dealt and we will get a CF back. Not only that, but I think that center fielder is Carl Crawford. This is pure speculation, but it seems quite possible now. I dont share your opinion. I think the sox acquired Vazquez to get better not to make another trade. El Duque and Viscaino were probably the worst pitchers we had so adding Vazquez is an upgrade. Who knows If you will even get 20 starts from El Duque and Viscaino was probably the weakest arm in the pen who was reduced to mop up role. Vazquez could turn out to be great or he could not. But Ill gamble on him given what cooper was able to do with Garland and Contreras. The sox now have 5 sold starters, unlike last year when they had 4 and a question mark at 5th with El Duque back and forth form the DL and then not winning a start over his last 9 or so. McCarthy was still a question mark being young and unproven. Now we have 5 starters, no questions for the first time and I love it. The key to winning at baseball is to add to your strenghts and KW knows that. How do you get better after winning it all, you add to your strengths and become dominant. This 5 man rotation is not going to get broken up. The deal looks even better with teh Dbacks sending $$ to the sox to pay for the contract to offset the difference between El Duque's. So to get a pitcher who wont go on the DL 4 times a year like our last years #5 starter we basically are gonna pay something like an extra 3-4 mil. Thats an awsome outcome. Move McCarthy to the pen for long relief to anchor it down with Cotts, Jenks, Pollite, and Hermy and we looks pretty good. Still need 1 more reliever though, teams carry 6 and we have 5.
  3. Garland is a sinker baller, Vazquez is a fly ball pitcher, another Freddy G. Garland @ Cell for 1 Year >> Vazquez @ Cell for 2 yrs
  4. QUOTE(chitownsportsfan @ Dec 13, 2005 -> 01:09 PM) Right, it's not groundbreaking, but many pundits have argued that the Sox are the "anti-moneyball" team, when that simply isn't true. KW might not be a Billy Bean acolyte, but he isn't Bull Duram either. The Sox were built on run prevention (pitching + defense) because the market was undervaluing these skills. That is what made the Sox so efficient with their modest payroll in 2005. Exactly, the market dictates everything. Along with a keen Gm who knows how to play the market and its changes to his advantage. Baseball is business and business in this country is governed by a free capitalistic market. The market for the 2006 season changed, pitching got ridicolous money on the market. Burnett getting $55 mil being under .500 on his careers, Milwood getting 4 yrs 44 Mil from the M's, Morris getting 3 Yrs 27 Mil after posting a +5 ERA last year. To combat such things you have to get creative. Bring some guys over from a different league or call ups from your farm system that the pitchers dont know. Bring in a big bat with high OBP to help offset the fluz of big name pitchers on the market. KW has done all that, he knows what hes doing.
  5. uh ok but it jsut didn't look right with the tables they were still messed up
  6. Edit: The Chicago White Sox have acquired Javier Vazquez for Chris Young, El Duque and Luis Vizcaino. Per rotoworld: Javier Vazquez could be dealt to the White Sox for either Jose Contreras or Jon Garland, a baseball insider told the New York Daily News. A Vazquez deal is on the verge of going down. The Mets were still in it at last check. It's unclear whether the Nationals were able to put together anything to entice Diamondbacks GM Josh Byrnes
  7. I created a pretty good excel file with all payroll and salary infor for 2006. How do i get it to show up in the post (create thread). Copy paste doesn't really work becuase it doesn't lineup right and all the coulmns, #'s, and spaces are out of whack. I made a picture file of the screen looking at the excel file but I dont know how to get that in the post either so everyone can see right away. Can anyone help.
  8. QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Dec 11, 2005 -> 06:31 PM) Give AJ what he wants and be grateful we have a great catcher, I say. Im sorry but thats not the right way to do business. Thats not the way KW approaches it at all. He is very good at knowing when and when not to give a guy a deal and for how much. KW is not gonna sign AJ cuz hes just grateful that hes here, hes gonna sign AJ to a deal he thinks makes sense for both parties and respectfully so. When players price themselves too high the sox wave goodbye, ala colon, when they want to be a sox they get a good fair deal, ala konerko. Thats the KW philosphy and AJ will be treated the same and sign a nice fair 2 or 3 year deal.
  9. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Dec 11, 2005 -> 05:45 PM) Getting offense from AJ is secondary, any O from AJP is just a bonus. Thats his claim to fame if you will. AJ is supposed to be a great offensive catcher, its helps negate his really bad caught stealing %. He didn't make the all star team in 2002 becuase hes a good game caller.
  10. I would definatly sign AJ for a 2 or 3 year deal. The problem is AJ is coming off one of his worst years in terms of his batting avg, which has been the cornerstone of his game for so long. He was the guy who was always a lock for a 290-310 avg. He hit a career low .258 in 2005 for the sox. Kinda of dissapointing. It was nice to see some inflated power numbers, but that was a product of a 7 homers in 7 days tear he went on in May. AJ is still AJ and will put up career average numbers more likely than break out numbers. That being said I would look for his batting avg to rebound next year, I hope. If i was KW I would know I could probably get him on a 1 year deal for quite cheap since he had his worst year in batting avg, 1 year 3.5 mil. However, I would also try something like a 2 year 7-8 mil with an option or a 3 year 10-11 mil deal with a buyout. That should basically do it, granted AJ wants to be a White Sox for the next few years.
  11. I just noticed that all Friday night home games for 2006 all start at 7:35 now, not 7:05 like last year. I dont know why they did this, I know saturday nights already had an the early start time. http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb...on_schedule.jsp
  12. QUOTE(bumptious96 @ Nov 30, 2005 -> 04:37 PM) when you think about it. our payroll has risen by at least $20 million over the past two seasons. 2003 was around $65. now its close to $90. that has to be one of the biggest increases in baseball over the past two seasons. In 2003 i think we started at $58 mil then added due to the everett and alomar trades.
  13. I think your are missing Viscaino on there, remember there is not enough room for Marte, Viscaino, and McCarthy in the pen. THat is unless we decide to have 7 releivers which is not normal. Thome is to make 12.5 mil this year and the sox got 22 mil to pay for his 3 years of service. So thats 7.33 mil per year to pay his contract so for 2006 we pay 12.5-7.33 = 5.17 for Thome, in 07 and 08 we pay 6.67 mil per year for him.
  14. Having Konerko and Thome (and possibly Dye) all back to back for the next at least 2 to 3 years is making my mouth droul. See the difference is we had sluggers in our lineup before but they were never surrounded by speed, defense, and pitching. We had a supporting cast of Olivo/Alomar Jr, Valentine, Alomar Robbie, Everett, Caruso, Singleton, Durham, etc. Now we have even better 3 4 5 punch in Konerko (I hope) Thome and Dye who all are very good OBP guys and can hit for high AVG as well. This potential lineup really excites me, especially becuase the pitching is till intact.
  15. Thats terrible news Dolgin definatly rocked. Im a younger guy and I loved Wills, but this year Dolgin became my new guy. He was a very very good replacement. I yearned to hear the sound of Dolgins voice on the radio knowing sox baseball was right around the corner, just like with Willsy. I am definatly dissapointed. The score is ruining our awsome radio reputation, if i wanted to listen to an in house 670 guy before I would be a 670 listner. I didn't get the impression they were classy enough, like ESPN 1000 and the sox organization. To me about 90% of the score's on air guys sound like the superfans, the sterotypical dump chicagoan with an accent who doesn't really know what they are talking about.
  16. QUOTE(Fingish @ Nov 9, 2005 -> 01:01 PM) 1. He won't cost 3 mil., not with this stuff hanging over his head. 2. He is light-years better than Viz. 3. 4.13 ERA with Phillies, but also a 1.15 WHIP and a .186 BAA, those last two numbers are better than most of the pitchers on our staff, only Cotts and Politte pitched that well out of the Pen. Relief pitchers are strange things, they can be lights out 1 year, and be horrible the next, Politte is still a 4.06 CAREER ERA, we could just as easily get the 4.38 ERA and 1.44 WHIP that we got out of him in '04. Hermanson is a question mark, Marte is a question mark, even the great Bobby Jenks has some issues performance-wise. If Urbina was able to be added for $1.5-$2.0mil including incentives, like $1mil base+, it would be foolish in the extreme to not consider adding him. Especially if he has Ozzie's respect, and Ozzie himself thinks he could handle him in the clubhouse. I agree with everything you said. Some of our guys had breakout or career years. The reason the are called "career" years is becuase they only happen once. The law of averages holds true expect everyone to put up their career averages in 2006. That being said Hermansen is the key, if the club and Hermy think his back will be an issue the sox need insurance, Urbina for 2 mil would be excellent.
  17. We have a chance to build a dyansty here. Payroll is going to increase there is no need to go young and get cheap. If Konerko leaves he needs to replaced not with a rookie, not with a question mark, but with production. The last thing you do after coming off a championship is go young and clean house. Thats what happened to the marlins after 1997 and looks where they went, they tried to avoid the same after 2003. The red sox lost pedro, cabrera, and lower after their world series and they didn't call up 3 rookies at league minimum, they got Wells, Clement, and renteria. Same with the Cards; Williams, Kline , Renteria, and Womack left, so they brought in Mulder, Eckstein, and Grudzy. The point is if Konerko and Everett and Thomas aren't going to be back their production needs to be replaced, not filled in with rookies and hope you have the ROY out of them, thats not what championship teams to do get back there. I love Paulie and would love to have him back, but he doesn't get a dime over 12 mil for all im concerned. Hes not Vlad, hes not Delgado, hes not Manny or Arod. Garett Andersen signed a 4/48 mil deal to lock him up for 05-08 seasons, Paulie should get right around the same. Andersen had a bit of down year this year, but he is consitently a +.300 hitter with 30 homers and 120 rbi. Paulie is better in 1 category homers, in which he will hit 5-10 more than Garett. If Paulie leaves my vote is for a trade to acquire Hillenbrand or Overbay, preferably Overbay since hes younger and has a much higher OBP and walks more. Let Andersen take over after 2006 when Dye's contract is up and possibly let him DH this year. 2003-2005 Avg Stats Garett A - .300 Ba, .332 OBP, 20hrs, 96 rbi Konerko - .264 Ba, .346 OBP, 33 hrs, 94 rbi Delgado - .291 Ba, .399 OBP, 36 hrs, 120 rbi Vlad - .328 Ba, .403 OBP, 30 hrs, 104 rbi Now each played had a down year in this period as well. Contracts Garett A - 4 years / 48 mil, signed for 05-08 seasons Konerko - ??? Delgado - 4 years / 52 mil, signed for 05-08 seaons Vlad - 5 years / 70 mil, signed for 04-08 seasons Now given the contracts of other top players and their stats what do you give Paulie. I personally dont give him anything more than what Anderson got, maybe throw in an extra option year with a buyout but flay 4/48 is what Paulie is worth. That being said i would definatly love to have Delgado if he becomes available.
  18. A lot of cubs fans have been really bitter, after all they are seeing the tide turn against them right before their eyes. I mean now the sox are the popular name, now their stadium and its fandeck and fundamentals are the cool unique features (not scoreboard and ivy), now we have the big name manager, now we have the spotlight. And we deserve it, we are the best team in all of MLB, we proved it.
  19. At the website of the company who designed most of the rennovations for US Cellular Field there is this strange video showing a RF deck (similar to Fundamentals). I dont know if anyone has seen this before, its just strange. http://www.hksinc.com/ Then go to Portfolio/Visualization/US Cellular Field/Video A (in right corner) My interpretation is that the RF deck is a good idea but it looks identical to the one in LF, the fundamentals deck. If they are serisouly considering or planning on doing something like this make it unique and interesting, not symetrical to LF. We are trying to stay away from the symmety and blandness thing. If we put something up in LF make it like the Miller Lite Party deck at soldier field or the Budweiser one at Turner Field.
  20. QUOTE(wilmot825 @ Nov 6, 2005 -> 03:42 PM) is there any for Sprint phones? Yeah seriously sprint phones.
  21. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Nov 3, 2005 -> 12:47 PM) I believe the team has an option on Buehrle for 2007 which will almost certainly be picked up. Hopefully it won't even come to that, because at the end of 06 KW will be smart enough to realize he's the face of the franchise and we must ink him to a new deal before he hits the market. Yeah at 9.5 mil. Im saying KW and the sox would rather have him locked up for 3 years or so to pay him that than give it to him in an option year where he will be FA after it ends. I hope MB signs a Freddy like deal sometime in the next year like 3 years 27 mil, go 8, 9 and then 10 mil.
  22. QUOTE(aboz56 @ Nov 3, 2005 -> 12:21 PM) I believe the California Kid will be FA eligible after next season. If he isn't signed this offseason, he will be shopped during the course of next season or even during this offseason. I'd like to see a 3 year, 21 million dollar deal for Garland with an option for a 4th year at $8 million. I think if hes not signed long term before arbitration then the sox will look to move him this offseason becuase he could get between 7-10 mil in arbitration, hes not Johan Santana (he makes 10). We dont want him heading into free agency with a starting salary of between 7-10 mil, there would be no way to resign him then. The deal needs to get down now. By the way Buehrle is a potential FA after 2006 as well, I would like to see KW do what he did with Freddy and the 3 year extension at 27 mil. That would be great for MB and eventuall for Garland after he finishes his first 3 year deal, just like MB.
  23. Im just playing GM here, but we all know KW, hes doesn't like to overpay or get caught up in big $$ situations like arbitration. That being said Garland is not Free Agent eligible but he is up for Arbitration again, and due a raise. I think now is very good time to offer him the longer team deal, 3 years or so. Garland definatly had a career year, 18-10 with a 3.5 ERA. Hes not going start 8-0 every year and be almost Cy Young, he is going to be a very good 3 or 4 starter worth around 5 or 6 mil (with no arbitration) if he can have an ERA under 4 and win 15+. I would love to see the sox wrap him up through his Arbitration years, he made 3.25 mil this past year. I think something like 3 years 18 mil would be great for Jon, maybe backload like 5 mil in 06, 6 mil in 07, and 7 mil in 08. Any comments.
  24. QUOTE(aboz56 @ Nov 3, 2005 -> 11:48 AM) http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000AXWX6...&s=dvd&v=glance Cheaper here than MLB.com Yeah i already bought it, the total was like $17 with shipping. But thats better than what MLB would have charges which is like $24 with shipping. It wont even ship till around thanksgiving though.
  25. QUOTE(Texsox @ Nov 3, 2005 -> 11:25 AM) Then are chances go down even more. Born in Rhode Island, high school in Arizona. I guess getting closer to Phoenix or RI would be the "home town discount". Exactly, getting stuck in these huge long term contracts is a disaster. Look at Manny and Arod their contracts are liabilities to their teams. Look at the tigers Maggs and Irod are doing nothing and are liabilities as well. Look at beltran, 17 mil for that, come on. The sox are probably the least likely team to get into all those huge boras type contracts. Paulie is great and would be great at 4/48, like his career statistics warrant, but one thing KW wont do is go Adrian Beltre on us. We are a team, no one is above the team, and if you have priced yourself out of what you are worth then you go bye bye and we are very capable of replacing you with a better cheaper alternative (cough maggs cough dye).
