QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 9, 2014 -> 11:04 AM) Spin? Because people twenty years later STILL don't bring up White Flag at the trade deadline? Because we haven't turned vets into prospects over the last six months? No part of what you just said is actually true, no matter how many times you say it. Who brings it up? So they are sensitive to fans opinions when it comes the white flag trade and ignore them when it comes to Dunn? BS.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 8, 2014 -> 09:16 PM) Because fans like you hold grudges for decades. I disagree. It's hilarious the spin Kenny and this organization gets away with since they won in '05. The quote in the first post in this thread is one example, another is Kenny could have built a top notch farm system if he wanted to!! ha.

QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Feb 8, 2014 -> 12:51 PM) Not really. He's saying that he wanted to tear it down but the team was too competitive to do it. Think about it. This is the same franchise that has a fan base that still cries about the White Flag Trade. Why did he want to tear it down if it was competitive?

QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Feb 8, 2014 -> 10:48 AM) http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article/cws/white-...p;vkey=news_cws "We were able to execute our long-term plan in a very short time," Williams said. "Each year that we put together our Plan A, B and C, we've talked about, 'Is now the year that we should turn it over and get younger and target guys who could help us and help us very quickly?' "Well, we were always competing so it was hard to do. So we have a bad year and it gives us the opportunity to do what we had tried to position ourselves to do every year. I got to tell you, when we are talking about our target list and some of the guys we've been able to bring in since last July, I'm as excited as I've been in years to see this team take the field." What an odd quote.

Say Paulino has a good year, I don't see how it helps the rebuilding effort enough to rule out signing a Jimenez or Santana.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Feb 6, 2014 -> 02:20 PM) It doesnt matter. next year there could be an even bigger cattle price increase, and I will have year old steaks in my freezer. I don't think steak/pitching analogy is a good one. Steak is a luxury unlike pitching.

QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Feb 6, 2014 -> 09:06 AM) That and I really hope they sign large contracts. If Santana ends up signing for 4/40 or something cheap like that we'll have to hear "look at how cheap we could've gotten Santana, RH doesn't know what he's doing, rabble, rabble, rabble" from Marty until the end of time. Rarely do I point out when I'm right. Others on the board (some who never pick a lane themselves) like to bring up when I'm wrong though.

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Feb 5, 2014 -> 02:07 PM) Why do you want to make a stupid move for the sake of making a move? They get credit for NOT outbidding the Yankees. I'm not sure what outcome you are rooting for -- we all want the team to manage their assets well so they can win the WS. You seem to not care about what happens so long as the players you like are on the team. I think it's more like it's ok if the Sox don't spend money they know what they are doing. My question is what makes everyone so confident in this team's leadership.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Feb 5, 2014 -> 02:26 PM) I don't know? We'll have to see what Saltalamacchia does. Not everything has to be a stance. I was quite indifferent on Saltalamacchia. I said many times "if they sign him, great, if they don't, great." Just because I was or was not at one time willing to spend doesn't make it the right move, nor does it make it the wrong move. I was not nearly as adament about adding Saltalamacchia as the contingent here is about adding a mid rotation starter, and at least Saltalamacchia would have been a significant upgrade on the Sox current catching situation. You simply can't say that about Jimenez or Santana. Paulino is still the 5th starter right?
-
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Feb 5, 2014 -> 02:18 PM) First, it was $40, and I said I'd be willing to spend that. Secondly, I actually backed off that quite a bit once free agency heated up. Third, that's actually a huge position of need, where a .700 OPS and good defense would have been a monstrosity of an upgrade. LOL! So were you wrong or right?
-
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Feb 5, 2014 -> 02:07 PM) Yes, and that's why we're totally oblivious to the roughly 6 year, $120 million offer they made to Tanaka. You are the one who wants to spend frivolous money on players like Santana, Jimenez, and Hamilton. Don't forget Greinke.
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 5, 2014 -> 02:02 PM) Near 4 in AAA. Doesn't really have an out pitch. Struggled with control. He is going to be 26 in a couple of months, he is a reliever/ spot starter for a good team if everything works out. Why do the White Sox need to employ players who should play for bad teams, just so we can see what we already really know? If you want the White Sox to be good, you should want them to employ good players. Because Sox fans believe Sox management when they say they have no money.
-
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Feb 5, 2014 -> 01:53 PM) Pray tell, how will they figure it out? i don't think they will go with just 11 pitchers the entire year.
-
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Feb 5, 2014 -> 01:45 PM) I'm pretty sure you've supported giving Beckham another chance, and the Sox have given him 5 SEASONS to get his act in order. Why would you write off two starting pitchers because of a combined total of 82.2 innings? How is adding a SP writing anyone off. If Reinzo and whoever else can pitch the Sox will figure it out.
-
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Feb 5, 2014 -> 01:26 PM) You have lambasted the Dunn signing as one of the worst ever and, in hindsight, it is. So what happens if they sign someone to a similar AAV to a position that is not of need and he flops? It's just a drop in the bucket? No, it's an absolutely terrible signing. The risk is extreme if he bombs. Regarding why people are not afraid of Abreu: first, they are afraid of him bombing. Secondly, it filled a position of great need for the Sox and hopefully locks up 1B for the next 6 years. The Sox do not NEED a starter right now and they don't necessarily NEED a starter next year. You don't make luxury signings at this stage in the team's development. You're conveniently ignoring their current future financial commitments which alow them to easily absorb a $39M contract if it bombs.

QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Feb 5, 2014 -> 12:59 PM) Cubs, what??? This has anything to do with us?? The casual fan will show up for winning, regardless of the northsiders. You worry about that stuff?!?! Gotta get out of the bubble. If the price gets low enough, they may do what you want, yet. But we don't know what that is, if it exists. I don't know what to tell you if you don't think the Sox are competing with the Cubs.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 5, 2014 -> 12:51 PM) I agree, they need to keep working to improve the offense. How do they do that without having anyone to deal and no hitters in the minors.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 5, 2014 -> 12:46 PM) Wait, so they used 15 guys last year as starting pitchers and are going into the season with more obvious starting pitcher candidates in the minors than they had last year? Clearly you make a convincing case to add starters. After all, we're better off with a 9 man rotation. They also lost 99 games.
-
QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Feb 5, 2014 -> 12:31 PM) No, not nil. You'll either eat $40M (if it's a lot lower than that, I may even get on the trolley), which WILL impact your abilities next FA season, and/or you'll be forced to play someone who isn't one of your best 5, at least for awhile. Kinda like Dunn, who you enjoy so much. Not nil. With their future payroll commitments they can absorb the salary hit if the signing is bad. The upside is too good to pass up. The conservative rebuild approach won't cut it IF these Cubs prospects are what they are reported to be.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 5, 2014 -> 12:30 PM) How on Earth can you state "Rienzo has been pitching in the Sox organization since 2007" as a knock against him and a reason why we shouldn't believe he can be a starter and then disagree with my interpretation of you arguing he's been in the org too long? I can't even figure out a semantic game that makes sense there. Rienzo is just another guy. Hopefully, he'll find a role in the bullpen.
-
QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Feb 5, 2014 -> 12:17 PM) So they make the smart business move for the White Sox and back off when the bidding gets out of hand and they receive no credit for that? Either the great contract guy Hahn misread the market or the bid was a publicity move.
-
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Feb 5, 2014 -> 11:53 AM) And the thing is, I do expect the Sox to contend in the next 3 years, but I don't know what the holes are going to be in 1 month into the season, let alone 2 years from now. Say Sale and Quintana keep pitching well, Danks rebounds to form a good 3-4 punch with Erik Johnson, and Chris Beck finds his slider again and he's suddenly a #2 starter. Do you really want 10% of the budget being burnt on a guy you don't need? [then trade him] Things aren't that simple and teams in general will rather sign a guy than give up pieces for a guy. And if he bombs, then what do you do? The Sox future financial commitments is the reason they should sign Jimenez or Santana. The risk is virtually nil if it bombs. The upside if it works out is they can deal a Quintana, Danks, Beck, Johnson, to fill a need. Outside of the core, they have little to deal to get anything of value.
-
QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Feb 5, 2014 -> 11:46 AM) So you criticize the team for not spending the money that they supposedly have, but when they do try to spend it, it doesn't count. Makes a lot of sense. If they offered $155M and lost, maybe they get credit. Offering anywhere from $35-55M less, no credit.

Meh on the hat. Like the original logo, could incorporate it better.
