QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 5, 2013 -> 08:22 AM) And people are more than happy to call the Keppinger signing a debacle/disaster/choose your word. "It's the last guy on the roster" doesn't make it any less wrong. You act like Konerko will be on the roster for the next 3 years. It's probably 50/50 he's retired by June 1st.

QUOTE (Jose Paniagua @ Dec 4, 2013 -> 04:53 PM) The organization is a mess, honestly. If an organization reviving monster offer for Sale came in...you look at his mechanics and just basically do it. He either is one of those genetic freaks that can survive any amount of years of weird torque on his body ------- or he's not. And we'll only know the answer to that once he's either injured or done with a 15 yr career etc. I've come over to this way of thinking. Sign Tanaka, deal Sale, draft Hoffman.

QUOTE (raBBit @ Dec 4, 2013 -> 01:54 PM) If we trade Dunn we create a hole. We don't have a LH bat in the middle of the order. Who are you going to put there Conor Gillaspie? I am so f***ing tired of Jerry Reinsdorf and his loyalty belt. Dunn had some very good streaks last year and now he has someone protecting him again unlike last year. Why mess that up? Trading Dunn in July after a great first half is a lot better a move than trading him in Dec/Jan. The White Sox are not playing for 2014 the way the lineup sets up is the least of our worries. As far as Dunn goes, his value was seen this trade deadline and it isn't much.

QUOTE (Jose Paniagua @ Dec 4, 2013 -> 01:14 PM) Dunn in outfield has 1107 career games from what I'm looking at, so no need to call my idea the dumbest idea on the face of the earth. It's an option. The White Sox have used him there a couple games each year he's been here..obviously it hasnt been their need for him. But since we're talking about flexibility, I'm stating what we have at our disposal. Can be used as a bluff if need be - but again, your entire point even assumes there are passable Dunn deals waiting for us right now........ so before we even go into any of what you're arguing lets (1) see that there's even a deal to be had for Dunn (2) see what the 25-man even ...is. Dunn in LF would be fine if he hit like he was expected to when he signed.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 4, 2013 -> 01:10 PM) That'd be equally silly. Dunn got off to a terrible start for the first month last year then found a groove in May when he started swinging for the fences again. He was homering enough that you could conceivably see a team being willing to take on part of his contract at the deadline. He didn't hit well enough to make it worth it for the Sox to take the loss on his contract yet...but he was getting closer. Do that this year...Konerko takes Dunn's at bats starting in late April, and there goes any chance we had of trading him because he's now consigned to the bench while the Captain gets the at bats he deserves. Today, the White Sox chose Konerko over Dunn which should make Dunn's contract inconsequential. That's the real price of bringing Konerko back. As long as they are willing to pay that, I'm ok with it.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 4, 2013 -> 01:05 PM) We're now stuck between one bad decision, selling low on a guy paid decently in order to clear a roster spot, or going into the season with a poorly set up bench. Neither of these are nice options. Much to do about nothing. The likeliest outcome of this is Dunn is gone before spring training the next likeliest outcome is that Dunn and Konerko are both gone by the middle of May.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 4, 2013 -> 10:43 AM) I personally think that's a bad idea, and not likely to happen. You'd have to ship some money with him, for one, which the Sox virtually never do. For another, despite people despising his K totals, he was one of the couple most productive hitters in the lineup. Finally, who plays DH instead as the starter? Konerko? Seems like a bad idea. Andy Wilkins? Dan Black? Even best case neither of those guys will touch Dunn's production, at least not in 2014. Keppinger? Ha! It's not a rebuild until Dunn goes.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 4, 2013 -> 08:58 AM) How much of a farewell is it if he's sitting on the bench or he's on the DL with a back injury or he's barely hitting like he did last year? A quick one. He'll retire by the end of May if he isn't hitting.

QUOTE (scs787 @ Dec 3, 2013 -> 10:03 PM) Adding 2 middle of the lineup bats with one of those being one of the best players in baseball only gives us 9 more wins? Child Please. We must sign Cano now then if that's the case. 80 wins would be . . . more of the same.
-
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 3, 2013 -> 09:29 PM) Gotcha, well then clearly adding one of the best hitters in baseball wouldn't help us towards that goal. If the Sox are committed to play at the deep end of the free agent market, great sign Cano otherwise who cares.
-
QUOTE (Dunt @ Dec 3, 2013 -> 09:27 PM) B/c 81 games of a 90+ loss team is not good for my health You don't think they are a 90-loss team with Cano?
-
QUOTE (Dunt @ Dec 3, 2013 -> 09:13 PM) I would buy a season ticket tomorrow. What not buy one anyway if that's the case.
-
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 3, 2013 -> 09:04 PM) I'm now convinced you're Dan Berstein. You recently b****ed how ownership owes the fans for the Wilder fiasco and should spend to make it up for us. If the best free agent on the market doesn't qualify, what would you like them to do make things right with the fans? Map a plan that puts one of the five most talented teams in MLB on the field at some point in the next five years. Stop building 80 win teams with the hope of getting lucky.
-
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 3, 2013 -> 08:38 PM) Lol...I definitely wouldn't want to use any payroll on Cano when B.J. Upton & Dan Uggla are available. You're starting to think smart.
-
Cano wouldn't sell a single ticket. He's a luxury the Sox can't afford.
-
Mildly surprised that Salty went at that price and the Sox didn't get him. It either means they didn't like him or they have no money to spend.
-
QUOTE (Paint it Black @ Nov 27, 2013 -> 12:33 PM) Dude you're just mailing it in at this point. Stop. I don't understand how any Sox fan can be satisfied with the on-field success of the team over the last 30+ years. Five playoff appearances is underwhelming.
-
QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Nov 26, 2013 -> 01:32 PM) You are such a troll Not enough postseasons for 30+ years of ownership.
-
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Nov 26, 2013 -> 01:10 PM) So you like bad owners? He's not a bad owner.
-
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Nov 26, 2013 -> 01:07 PM) Why are you a season ticket holder if you hate ownership so much? I don't hate ownership, never said that.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 26, 2013 -> 12:39 PM) This was a highly detailed, well laid out, convincing logical argument. It wouldn't convince you anyhow, too pro JR.
-
Myth: JR is a good owner.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Nov 23, 2013 -> 04:33 PM) Not sure "great" is the word I would use. Looks like early to mid February would be the best case scenario for a return. And with Derrick, add about 2 more months to that. So basically another wasted season. Yep. Thing is another non-contact injury has to mess with his psyche even if he comes back 100%

QUOTE (iamshack @ Nov 23, 2013 -> 04:14 PM) Gayle Sayers? Good one. Mark Prior.

I think the Jays and D'Backs match up very well with the Sox. Cardinals for Ramirez too.
