  1. maybe he is the Gio Gonzalez of the Pads?
  2. QUOTE (Kalapse @ May 21, 2009 -> 03:17 PM) Thanks a lot. Good to see the reports have changed over the past 4 hours, this is just incredible. Fun, isn't it?
  3. QUOTE (SoxAce @ May 21, 2009 -> 03:09 PM) He'll still be made in SD regardless. Is going to another s***ty team away from your family really worth it? That money will buy them a REAL nice house in Chicago.
  4. QUOTE (SoxAce @ May 21, 2009 -> 03:06 PM) I HIGHLY doubt Peavy accepts a trade to us. Neither does most Padres fans. Money trumps all.
  5. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ May 21, 2009 -> 02:53 PM) Why dont they take off the Penguins back pack before they hose him down? That's what she said.
  6. QUOTE (G&T @ May 21, 2009 -> 02:13 PM) No. The union would flip if money is renegotiated in any way. That would take more time to get approval. Thanks, that's what I thought.
  7. Could the Sox renegotiate the back-end of the deal? Basically wipe out the option year and maybe have two guaranteed years at $15 or $16 mil? Not suggesting, just asking if they could do this and the union would sign off on it. It's lees money for him in that one year, but more money overall, that's why I ask.
  8. QUOTE (soxfan3530 @ May 21, 2009 -> 01:59 PM) zoos in general are overrated. I dont want to pay 35 bucks to walk around and see a bunch of animals sleeping. I take it you haven't been to a Sox game this year....
  9. QUOTE (bighurt574 @ May 21, 2009 -> 01:47 PM) $22 million 4 years from now is a lot (it's really $18 million, $4 million is already a sunk cost), but: (1) you're getting 3/4 year at $11 million prorated, which is way below market; and (2) you're getting 3 years at $16 million average, which is still likely below market, and not all that different from MB's contract. When you look at the overall contract, it's reasonable for a pitcher like Peavy, especially when you compare it to the contracts that other "aces" have received recently. If we have to overpay a bit for year 5, I'm ok with it. I imagine the Sox are comfortable with his elbow, or the trade wouldn't have gotten this far. POTT. (Post of the Thread)
  10. QUOTE (watchtower41 @ May 21, 2009 -> 01:42 PM) Holy crap, $35 for admission to a zoo?? Do they let you ride a gorilla? Define "ride."
  11. QUOTE (fathom @ May 21, 2009 -> 01:29 PM) Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! Even with Peavy, we still have a ton of holes. I really hope he declines this deal. This deal isn't just for this year. It's for the next 4. And with the players in AA coming up soon, I think it's a deal that has to be made if given the opportunity. This isn't a mid-season, lets see if we can win this year...it's a early season pickup in a winnable division that will help the team for years to come.
  12. And if the Sox can defer some of that option money (and he would accept that) why not pick it up?
  13. QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ May 21, 2009 -> 01:21 PM) there was an update that Peavy wants the option picked up as a starter, which I would imagine would be trips to Chicago for his family, etc. and someone said Peavy didn't show up to a Pads gym or something (that was out of SD) Thanks.
  14. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ May 21, 2009 -> 12:07 PM) Maybe this will be like when Fred McGriff said no for a few days about being traded to the Cubs and really dragged it out til agreeing. At least i think it went down that way. Guys in this situation would like to wait til other teams pop up to bid on em, but if it got to this point with SD then there must be no other deals out there. Don't think the Sox want to wait that long.
  15. QUOTE (dmbjeff @ May 21, 2009 -> 12:03 PM) If he is truly scared about the AL, that in itself is enough for the Sox to pull the deal. That's a confidence issue If the Sox pull the deal...then THAT would be a PR nightmare.
  16. QUOTE (fathom @ May 21, 2009 -> 11:53 AM) Agreed, unless he's traded to the Cubs in 2 months and acts like he's the happiest person in the world. If that's the case...I hope he doesn't pitch in the Crosstown Classic... I take that back...I hope he DOES...and gets shellacked!
  17. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ May 21, 2009 -> 11:50 AM) I don't think Peavy has any problem with leaving either. In fact, coming to Chicago isn't the problem. Peavy having to face the big bad DH seems to be putting the kibosh on all of this. It sucks because the Sox have done all they can do. It's out of their control right now. Which is why I don't think the Sox would take a PR hit if he says no.
  18. QUOTE (DABearSoX @ May 21, 2009 -> 11:38 AM) so is the deal officially dead? or is it b/c that SD newspaper article Not dead yet...but probably on life support. Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor???
  19. And somewhere John Moores is s***ting his pants.
  20. Don't watch the pot of water boil. Step away from teh computer, get some lunch and revisit when you get back. If by tomorrow morning, nothing has happened, this deal is probably dead.
  21. QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ May 21, 2009 -> 11:22 AM) well, newest stuff seems like this is all a moot point and there's no deal. It seems that the teams never agreed to anything and Peavy was never formally approached Hmmm...how much should we trust this writer then? If he's the one that broke the story that a trade had been agreed upon, now he's saying it hasn't gotten that far...I mean, c'mon.
  22. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ May 21, 2009 -> 11:15 AM) Kalapse here's the update: Peavy to the Sox for Richards, Poreda and one to two PTBNL depending on the source. Gammons indicated that Beckham is not part of the deal and CBS writer indicated that the PTBNL would be pitcher(s). Some other names that were mentioned at one time or another as being part of the deal are Jermaine Dye, Brian Giles, and David Eckstein, but it sounds like those three names were very early speculation. Linebrink talked to Peavy yesterday and his general feeling is that it is 50/50. Other sources indicate that Peavy's hold-up is not pitching in the AL where he doesn't have concerns but with playing for Ozzie. His agent also indicated that he wants to play in the midwest so thats a fit. Bottom line, it sounds like the Sox want a decision by today so we should know within a few hours. The 50/50 isn't Peavy, it's Linebrink not wanting to speak for Peavy.
