  1. McLouth is under contract for 3 more years. The White Sox don't need an OF for 3 more years. /story
  2. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jun 3, 2009 -> 10:26 AM) Went where? I'm saying the same thing over and over. I'm talking about the game. Baseball. Not micro-analyzing one decision. So what if Wise starts over BA. I mean, let's just enjoy being there. Of course it's more fun when they are winning...but we are talking like a bunch of whiny babies over one position. The pitching is better...the hitting overall is better, let's focus on that instead of one guy. (I'm starting to sound like Billy Crystal in Running Scared..."One guy...you are going to give all that coke to...one...guy...?")
  3. QUOTE (TitoMB345 @ Jun 3, 2009 -> 10:25 AM) For all of you who laughed when we said Wise would be starting/playing over BA.. HA! Ozzie is an idiot, and I want him fired after the season. The Ozzie Guillen experiment should be over. Just a question...when is an experiment no longer an experiment? I mean, he's been here for 5 years. I think he is who he is. And the front office likes it.
  4. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jun 3, 2009 -> 10:20 AM) Correct, it's not brain surgery, it's really that obvious that the team isn't benefited by Wise platooning with Anderson. Really...? You really just went there...? Ok.
  5. QUOTE (BearSox @ Jun 3, 2009 -> 10:15 AM) Okay, here's the plan... we get Josh Byrnes filthy drunk. Then, we convince him to trade Dan Haren for a package of Poreda, Allen, Shelby, Colon, and Gilmore. A rotation of: Buehrle, Haren, Danks, Floyd, Richard... that's just pure awesomeness. If he's filthy drunk, let's get him to take Wise, McCullough, a rosin bag and Roger Bossard's autograph for Haren.
  6. Let's just rotate all the players...like umpires. One of those has to work...because someone on this board is going to be pissed off about the line-up/defensive alignments every single night. Right or wrong, Ozzie's the manager and he's going to continue doing what he thinks is best for the team. If Wise doesn't shape up, he'll be gone. Ozzie has certainly shown that in the past. So, you know, TCQ is out for now, Wise is up. As ss2k5 said, when/if TCQ comes back, Wise is gone. Until then...this team has won 10 of 14 and has a good chance of keeping that up. And one more thing, this isn't brain surgery. This is baseball. Some people want to continue getting worked up over a position battle. Sit back, relax, strap it down, open a cold one and enjoy the summer (if it ever gets here).
  7. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jun 2, 2009 -> 04:22 PM) Ugh...even in B'ham that's infuriating. Not only that, but when they just stand up in front of you. Add: Waving, while on the phone, trying to show someone across the ballpark where they are sitting. Happened to me at the last game. Jackassery.
  8. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 2, 2009 -> 04:19 PM) There is one weak blob of rain that might arrive in a couple, tree hours, otherwise the radar for anything headed this way is clear. I'd say there is a very good chance they get it in. Chicago-ized for you.
  9. The rising cost of beer at the ballpark. People who cross in front of you during a pitch or play. The Dutch.
  10. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jun 2, 2009 -> 02:42 PM) Hope Bart can pitch like a lights out kinda guy again. Looking for more wins He's big enough to block out the sun...does that count?
  11. Sen. Paul Simon from the great State of Illinois. I was in a documentary class in college and he took time out of his busy schedule to do an interview with us. I wasn't there, but the people that interviewed him said he was incredibly nice and accommodating. And he seemed to have a lot of integrity. I also like Durbin for some reason.
  12. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jun 2, 2009 -> 01:16 AM) You must have a very agreeable pancreas, because not only does it find middle ground between head and heart, but a lot of others are saying 8-4 too. And I agree with it as well. 8-4 seems very realistic. I do, but don't tell that to my spleen. And lets leave my duodenum out of this altogether...I might as well re-name it fathom.
  13. QUOTE (wilmot825 @ Jun 2, 2009 -> 11:53 AM) Sign him to a 10-day contract, like the NBA does, and let him play one game at home infront of the fans so he can go out in class. Let him retire like the classy player he was for so many years. Why 10 days? Sign him. Put him up to plate for one game. Retire after game. Done.
  14. And he still has the second prettiest left handed swing in baseball.
  15. QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Jun 2, 2009 -> 01:06 PM) My man-love for Peoria Jim continues to blossom. Next big milestones are Killebrew, etc., but also 1000 career extra base hits - he's at 978, so he should get there by August. Looking at the Sox teams of the near future, 2010 and 2011, I think we should try to keep him in the fold if he's still productive at the end of this season. He'd probably sign on the cheap, because: A. he's close to home B. he must realize that the team's prospects are very good for getting him his first WS ring. We'll need his lefty power bat at least until Allen is ready, so I'm thinking a one year deal with a second year option if incentives are met. He'll get his #600 next year, and he may pass Sosa, Griffey (who has just a few dingers left IMO), etc. in '11, and retire #6 all time, as a White Sox, behind only Bonds, Aaron, Ruth, Mays and ARoid. If you believe that Jimmy has done it the "right way", in the minds of many, he'll be #4 all time. Actually #3. Ruth was hopped up on tube steaks, scotch and whores.
  16. QUOTE (Jimbo's Drinker @ Jun 2, 2009 -> 01:01 PM) The message waa he needs to reach puberty and stop sucking. Talking about the team...not Lilli.
  17. Who says sending a message doesn't work?
  18. QUOTE (hogan873 @ Jun 2, 2009 -> 06:03 AM) I agree. I always liked poking through the trade winds and getting excited, then let down, then excited, then let down, then dozing off, then waking up and getting excited again. With the trade winds, we could consolidate all of the threads about NL pitchers too afraid to pitch in the AL, using their excuses of "it's what's best for my family", "Ozzie is mean", "AJ scares me", "my pants are too tight", etc. Anyone else think this sounds like a typical weekend in Vegas?
  19. Jimmy Fallon on the other hand... ....uch.
  20. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 2, 2009 -> 10:45 AM) Thats another thing, all the comments in the game thread about how dumb Ozzie is without ever knowing that he sat Brian for most of the game because he has been suffering from the flu. THAT'S NOT AN EXCUSE!!!
  21. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 2, 2009 -> 10:40 AM) Pence is the exact name I was thinking. That said, I don't see the Astros giving him up, but I'd definately send a ton of spects for Pence. Not. A. Chance.
  22. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jun 2, 2009 -> 09:14 AM) I enjoyed it, but it could've been better. I'm sure it'll continue to get better. I wonder if Andy will be standing over in the corner for good, or if he's going to be on the couch again. Also, it really came off to me that Ferrell upstaged Conan. It's the guy's first show, give him the spotlight. Isn't that the mark of a good host? I mean, even though the show has his name on it...he's supposed to make his guests look good. And I thought it was great. Mostly because he showed that he isn't going to change his show just because of the seat he is in now. He's going to be just as wacky at 10:30 as he was at 11:30. CIRCLE! CIRCLE!! CIRCLE!!!
  23. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jun 1, 2009 -> 03:34 PM) Make DRose repay his scholarship, any payments received, and loss of all credits gained at Memphis. Also, have some type of charity work or make him donate to a scholarship fund. Have heavy sanctions on Memphis and Calipari for violating the NCAA rules while making a hard statement that this violation will not go unnoticed and unpunished now or in the future. Im talking about big time probation in scholarships, losing the right to playoffs (NCAA tournament I mean), and heavy fines to the program and coach to go towards a scholarship fund (same as DRose, a fund such as one that helps kids going to college from the CPS or something.) Basically, force coaches and programs into the position where the risk is too great to give money to these players. This problem is deeper than the NBA, NCAA or high schools. This is adults taking advantage of kids who aren't mature enough to know what to do. For every Kobe, LeBron and Garnett, there's a Kwame Brown, Derrick Rose and Ronnie Fields. Some are ready, some are not. The NBA's rule is flat out dumb. If an player wants to go pro at 18, he should be allowed to, but there should be some sort of league-supported, team-based support system in place monitoring actions, so these guys don't get taken by a member of the entourage or a rogue agent. And a larger minor league system can help ease the transition for some of these players.
  24. My heart says 9-3. My head says 7-5. My pancreas says 8-4.
  25. QUOTE (stretchstretch @ Jun 1, 2009 -> 02:11 PM) as long as Fields has that "windup hitch" in his backswing he'll never catch up with a good MLB fastball, which he misses consistently, even when right down the pipe. If only we had a hitting coach to correct such minor flaws I can't wait for Super Walker to cross his arms, blink his eyes and *poof* correct a hitch in a hitters swing. What? You think any hitting coach hasn't seen an issue and told a player? Or that a player loses said hitch in BP and it comes back again during a game? You think Walker is really a shapeshifter that can go to the plate as every player and take over? Enough with the Greg Walker bashing. At some point, the players need to take responsibility for themselves. If not, Fields has some players waiting at AAA and AA that can take over.
