Official 2008-2009 NHL Thread
CanOfCorn replied to whitesoxbrian's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE (The Critic @ Jun 10, 2009 -> 02:33 AM) Yep. Really exciting games being played, too. There's one more on Friday, and the winner gets a VERY nice trophy. If you're over 50 years old, you may remember seeing that trophy in Chicago once. Tex...FlaJim...Yas...scenario...you guys were, what...around 55 when the Cup was last in Chicago? -

QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 11:42 PM) yeah, he can just be like Calipari and move on to another great job and when he's doing well at that school with dirty players ESPN can just completely ignore his past If the allegations are true, he would have been fired anyway. Smart move for him. Even though he's a jackass. -
I saw a little bit of him in the Super REgionals...the dude is HUGE! He is built like a football player. I can see him developing more power as he gets older. Good lord...the guns on him. He has a nice swing and above average speed, from what I saw. Very excited about this pick from the limited amount of time I've seen him.

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Jun 10, 2009 -> 08:28 AM) I forgot about that. Baseball should just do what football does and players just go in as players and it lists all the teams you played for. I think it makes more sense now that players are more likely to play for a number of teams over their careers. I completely agree and great post. With free agency running rampant...it's time to just slap a cap on them with nothing on it and list the teams played for. Done and done.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 04:07 PM) And that would be just fine. Is that because he is so fat...when he steps on a scale, it says, "One at a time, please?"
-
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 04:01 PM) He's clearly not healthy, and its not his knee either. He's not throwing right, he's not got any real velocity, he's protecting the arm to last as long as possible. If he returns from the DL, he needs to show he can throw with some speed, and then he's a bullpen guy, not a starter. I don't think Colon will accept that role and will ask to be released.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 03:58 PM) So far, this thread is as embarrassing as I figured it would be. Kudos to the posters who have nothing intelligent to add beyond fat jokes and laughable team comparisons. Bartolo Colon is so fat...he looks at a menu in a restaurant and says, "Okay."
-
QUOTE (shipps @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 03:42 PM) This thread needs more fat jokes...then I would really laugh....more fat jokes cause it never gets old, ever. Its so original. Bartolo Colon is so fat...his favorite food is seconds.

QUOTE (shipps @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 03:42 PM) This thread needs more fat jokes...then I would really laugh....more fat jokes cause it never gets old, ever. Its so original. Bartolo Colon is so fat...he was floating in the Atlantic Ocean and Spain claimed him as the New World.

QUOTE (Markbilliards @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 11:05 AM) It is my birthday today! I'd say a nice present would be Gordon Beckham's first major league hit and a start to the draft for the Sox that won't piss everyone off. Good luck with aaaaaaaaaallllllllll that! And happy birthday da two a youse!

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 01:10 PM) the wang in mouth joke was pretty funny. What was better was the drinking of the water afterwards. I don't know why, but that was a great exclamation on the joke.

QUOTE (ptatc @ Jun 8, 2009 -> 07:21 PM) Winners of the understatemnt of the year award. It's like having a discussion with my 8 year old. Everything you say must be wrong. I used to really like them. Dan had a great mroning show on the weekends when he was just having fun. The best was a show dedicated to lining up old cartoon characters for a football team. Fred Flintstone at RB, the kangaroo that used to kick Sylvester around was the kicker etc. Now he takes everything far too seriously which is ironinc because they promote their show to be as "don't take it seriously." I've unfortunately had to turn them off. This.

Interesting to see the Astros at 30. And reason NUMBER 1 that Hunter Pence won't be traded, as he is the only one from the system. -
QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 10:43 AM) Ok then, everyone sucks but you. Is that better? Yes. I feel vindicated.
-
QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 10:32 AM) So are we all just going to assume that J. Danks and the rest of these kids are gonna come up here and rake? Doubtful. And I'm also tired of hearing how terribad of a manager Ozzie is. Last I checked he was the first Sox manager since 1917 to bring us a title, regardless of players, talent, or otherwise. I know, Oz haters, we won in 05 despite his terribad managing, right? Stick it. Not many managers would have had the guts to go through 3 closers, let alone a rookie. Yet another anti-whateverthesoxdosucks thread. You all suck. To be fair, Hermanson got hurt. But I agree with you until the "You all suck" part.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 10:26 AM) Anyone think maybe we send Dotel and Anderson to the Cubs for Reed Johnson and a relief prospect? HOw about Dotel and Anderson for Fukudome?
-
QUOTE (joesaiditstrue @ Jun 8, 2009 -> 10:41 PM) I don't want Ozzie Guillen anywhere near this team if it's going to be infused with youth, he's a terrible f***ing manager when working with younger guys, he's a veteran-friendly manager, but he'll ruin guys like Beckham and Danks, and who's to say he didn't severely stunt BA's growth as a full-time player granted I don't think BA would've been 5-tooler, but who's to say he couldn't have been better than what he is now, under the guise of someone else Yeah, he's done a horrible job with Fields and Getz and Ramirez and Quentin and Floyd and Danks. Ozzie only has problems with players that come in with attitudes (see: Brian Anderson). But I think he's come around a little on BA.

8 teams scouted the double dip yesterday
CanOfCorn replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Before we blow this up into a "I'd trade Dweezy for Jimmy Rollins" trade thread. Are there Sox scouts at the Phillies games? Or any other team we aren't playing in the next few weeks. -
QUOTE (WCSox @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 10:01 AM) To paraphrase a former colleague, McCarver is one of those people who you'd like to buy for what he's worth and sell for what he thinks he's worth. Not allowing a DH into the HOF is about as stupid as disqualifying somebody who plays 1B or RF. I realize that some of the Puritanical old-timers still can't get over the rule change from 30+ years ago, but they need to dig their heads out of their asses and get with the program. And what pissed me off the most when he said that was the whole "not playing the field" argument. Um, Tim...he may not have been a great fielder, but he did play 1B for quite awhile. Jackass.

QUOTE (Wanne @ Jun 8, 2009 -> 03:41 PM) How much longer will Ozzie coddle these guys and not go off. I agree with whoever said a while back that ever since Ozzie had to take those sensitivity classes he's been pretty soft...but goddamn...this is getting ridiculous. I really don't ever want to see Fields in the lineup ever again. Nope. He's all out of bullets. Going off is going to do nothing. Messages have to be sent by Kenny now. And no, the team hasn't tuned out Ozzie. They just, aren't good. -

Also, I wouldn't put Bacon up there against a 101 mph thrower either. Jeez people...he just came up. -
