Gov. Sanford
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 30, 2009 -> 02:02 PM) So now, he's saying there were further daliances with this Brazilian woman, and that he also "crossed the line" with other women as well. This really is like a slow motion train wreck. What a douche... If I were his wife, I'd be like, "Gee...thanks." And then I'd kick him square in the twig and berries.

Fields vs. Getz
QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Jun 30, 2009 -> 01:40 PM) hitting: Getz: .243/.303/.338/.641 Fields: .233/.314/.351/.666 fielding: Getz: 6 errors at an easier position/.978 fielding percentage Fields: 8 errors at a tougher position/.941 fielding percentage in one scenario, beckham stays at third, in the other, beckham moves to ss with alexei going to second or beckham moves to second. In one scenario, our speed and flexibility is compromised with fields, but on the other the power numbers and ceiling go way up. Yes, I know we stick with the hot lineup. If and when we come off this streak, does it make sense to rethink some things? I'm not convinced Fields still does have a much higher ceiling, even though he said some stupid things the other week. Fields is an idiot, but he's an idiot capable of hitting 27 home runs a season. Chris Getz arguably has a much lower ceiling and has similar offensive issues. As a side note: is Fields now going to be consigned to a suite in the Anderson Doghouse? To me, Chris Getz is a little better than Aaron Miles. And that's how his career is going to go. Serviceable, starter if needed.

WTF. Seriously, I got nothing.
QUOTE (lostfan @ Jun 30, 2009 -> 10:32 AM) That would've made it worth it actually. Or maybe if Halle Berry is actually there. Any event is worth it if Halle Berry is there. Ooooohhhhh yeah!

(Insert Celeb Here) is Dead
So, does that make politicians celebrities? Stephen Hawking? Chesley Sullenberger? That's one of the problems today...we lump anyone famous into the celebrity bin. To me...you have to be famous to be a celebrity, but you don't have to be a celebrity to be famous. So, you guys can suck it!

Giants like Dye?
QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 29, 2009 -> 10:10 PM) WHy would they have to send a scout to look at Dye? Doesn't EVERYBODY know everything there is to know about Dye? He's a stud. First of all, I think next year is a Mutual Option, so Dye may or may not be a FA, BearSox. Second, in the other part of the article, it said the Giants might also be scouting Victor Martinez. Third, I would love to keep Dye as he's been the most consistent player on the Sox for years. He's had bad stretches, but not nearly as long as others (I'm looking at you, Kong). But, if we can get something good for him, and we are really out of it, then why not?

WTF. Seriously, I got nothing.
What would have been great is if Hurricane Chris ripped the mic out of the podium and 6 scantily clad apple-bottoms came out and danced on the Speaker's dais. A boy can dream...can't he?

I'm a homeowner!
QUOTE (Texsox @ Jun 30, 2009 -> 08:13 AM) Keep up on the small maintenance. Saving pennies costs dollars in the long run. Check your mortgage and add a little to your payment each month. Congratulations Agreed. The other option is send one extra full payment a year. New advice: TURN OFF THE IRON!

I wonder if there is a stat on how many times the Enquirer ends up being right? I mean, they pay for stories, so who's to say someone who needs some extra cash wouldn't leak a story. If it ends up being wrong, Whoops...it's the Enquirer. But if it ends up being right, the "mainstream media" will end up running with it. Either way, the Enquirer gets it's readers. Win-win.

Is Sammy a Hall of Famer???
QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Jun 17, 2009 -> 11:35 AM) When was that? Reggie Jackson was a second ballot HOF'er and is comparable to sosa in my opinion. Don't tell me about October because Jack Morris is the best October player in the last forty years. Actually, when he played with the Cubs. He was a damn good doubles hitter. A bit stronger than Mark Grace.

Stupid questions people have asked you
Here's two: I was working at an advertising agency and got a call asking me to fix the monitor. The guy says, "I put the tape in and...nothing. What's wrong?" Answer: Turn the damn thing on. Then he called me the next week...same damn thing. I worked at a coffee shop...a woman asked for a decaf cappuccino. I made said decaf cappuccino. She comes back to the counter and says, "Are you sure this is a cappuccino? It's so frothy." Um...yeah, that's what a cappuccino is. She argued for about a minute and I said, "Would you like something else?" She said, "Yes, a decaf cappuccino." So I made her a latte and she left muttering, "This is what I wanted in the first place." The kicker...it was caffeinated... BURN!!!

Michael Jackson still dead.
QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Jun 29, 2009 -> 11:18 AM) This tortured soul crutch that people keep using kind of irks me. It wouldnt work for the neighborhood wierdo, why does it work here. Oh yes, he can sing and dance like no other. Every child star has a lost childhood. Some of them are abused, hell take a look at the local prison population and you can find lost childhoods and terrible abuse. He was an adult male, who slept with children in his bed that were not his own. I don't need to convict him to know that is wrong. The parents who allowed this are sick in their heads. You don't use children as bait to get close to someone you admire, or use for a ransom later. The parents are as guilty as this guy. Oh and OJ didn't kill his wife because he wasnt convicted either. While you are right on all accounts...that local prison population you talk about didn't play out in the public forum. It's sad in all cases, but in THIS ONE CASE, you could actually witness the craziness play out first hand. That's the difference. And according to the law, which we all tend to live by, OJ didn't kill his wife. What you and I think doesn't really matter. And absolutely the parents are just as, if not more guilty. I mean, if you know that a person has a proclivity to doing something bad and you wave that under his/her nose, who's worse? /filibustering

Potential teams that could come calling
QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Jun 29, 2009 -> 01:29 PM) I hate to say this, but I think we're setting up for a situation just like the White Flag year. Except this year we probably wont make a deal. But Pods has come here and made us JUST good enough to contemplate not selling pieces. And I do enjoy watching this team. But he has come here and gotten us how many wins of our last 20? Eleven i believe. And that's just good enough to look decent in the standings, but we have to look at the current farm system and take any opportunities to make it go from good to outstanding. Reason being, a lot of money is about to free up. We could have one of those rare perfect storms where we have an excellent farm system plus FA acquisitions in 2010. And yet on the other side, we can stay content with our 33 yr old leadoff hitter with history of injury. And we can enjoy our aging DH who has started to experience a dip in average (which usually leaguewide leads to a later downturn in OBP when yr at his age) Unfortunately, you aren't going to get much for Pods. Even if a team is desperate, I can't imagine the Sox getting anywhere close to what the Indians got for DeRosa...and he's having a hell of a year. Thome, maybe, but probably not. You just laid out the reason why in your post. Ride them out...take what they can give you...and hope for the best. Look at the players KW has traded or signed...headcases, downside of their careers, one pitch away, need a change of scenery, this is the Sox' M.O. And it's not a bad one. I think Danks is the only one that doesn't fit that description and the Sox won that trade. Kenny has learned. Not to mention, the fans have re-embraced Scotty Pods with his hustle, stick-to-it-iveness and spark at the top of the order. And Thome is one of the nicest, most likeable guys out there. We all want the Sox to win, but trading pieces just to save a half a year salary and to get a Michael Dubee in return just isn't worth it. I think youare going to see more trades like Corky Miller.

Potential teams that could come calling
QUOTE (Special K @ Jun 29, 2009 -> 01:07 PM) So what do those who want Pods traded suggest we do? Trade him while his value is high, pretend like were going to go after a leadoff hitter in the off seasos (not pick one up), or pick up Chone Figgins (who is very comparable to Pods in age/ability) for a ton of money? Or how about trade Pods and have an open competition for the spot in CF between Brian Anderson and Dwayne Wise, b/c that's also turned out great. Then a year from now we'll all be crying for them to bring up Mitchell or Danks because we don't have someone who can leadoff. The guy is doing well, the Sox would be in the cellar without him, and realistically, you're not going to get too much in a trade for him, b/c GMs all know the same thing we know, he is injury prone and older. Let's ride him out and enjoy the success, especially if we want to make a run at the division. Excellent post. You don't trade Pods. I think this team is set for the year unless they tank before the middle of July. The only addition to this team, at this point, should be TCQ.

Knee Surgery or injuries
QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jun 29, 2009 -> 11:02 AM) So I recently injured my knee playing basketball, I was running for the ball and when I reached for it my left kneecap area felt like a pop and collapsed on me. Well, after urgent care and talking to an orthopedist, I will be getting an MRI to see what is up with it. But the orthopedist was saying it did not look like a sprain that I could just use physical therapy for, and will probably require surgery, possible multiple surgeries. So my question is, anybody have knee surgery and can share some experiences with recovery time and such? My wife just went to the doc and found out that she popped her ACL...again...for the FIFTH TIME! So, I've kinda learned from her. I think, depending on the severity, I think the worst would be a 6 week recovery time and then continued physical therapy for awhile. If it's just arthroscopic, I think it's a bit shorter recovery time. Good luck and I hope it's nothing too severe, Big Russ.

QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Jun 29, 2009 -> 10:58 AM) You'd think so, I know. But by the time Pa picked us up from the prairie schoolhouse and drove us home in the oxcart every day the show would already be over. I thought you walked to school, in the snow, barefoot, uphill...both ways.
