Michael Jackson is dead...buried...eulogized. Move on.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 8, 2009 -> 03:27 PM) And a belated one to you. Hey, hey, hey! This is MY burfday thread! He's got his own! (Well, he shares it with Baines3, but you know what I mean!)

QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jul 8, 2009 -> 03:28 PM) The Jays released Ryan, and after DFAing Gobble the Sox could use another LHP in the pen if they want to eventually move Poreda into the rotation or down to the minors to pitch some more innings. Ryan was decent last year after his surgery but struggled this year, could be a buy low guy a la Dustin Hermanson. He could probably be had for cheap as Toronto is still on the hook for his contract. The answer is yes, Coop can fix him and no, they shouldn't pick him up.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jul 7, 2009 -> 03:20 PM) Deal not done? I think the Trib is giving the bankruptcy court a choice. They just want the Cubs off their plate. -
Thanks everyone...the can keeps me fresh!

7/8 Game Thread Sox vs. Cleveland 7:11pmCDT WCIU

QUOTE (WCSox @ Jul 8, 2009 -> 09:46 AM) Absolutely agree about Ritchie, but Swisher was more of a salary dump than anything. That and he annoyed the hell out of everybody in the clubhouse. Do we know for sure that the Jays don't HAVE to move Halladay for budgetary purposes as well? They're averaging 22,800 per game (25th in the majors) in a city that doesn't really care about baseball and are paying B.J. Ryan $12 million this year to suck. And Wells nearly $100 mil to suck. And Alex Rios nearly $60 mil to underachieve. They don't NEED to move Doc, but it would help.

White Sox Acquire RP Tony Pena from ARI for Brandon Allen
CanOfCorn replied to chetkincaid's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (dbaho @ Jul 8, 2009 -> 10:01 AM) A good stat to look at for Pena is FIP. 2007 - 4.28 2008 - 3.28 2009 - 3.79 This season, Linebrink has a FIP of 3.95, Dotel's is 4.09 and Thornton's is 2.95. Really? FIP? NERD ALERT!!! -
QUOTE (kapkomet @ Jul 8, 2009 -> 08:32 AM) Yes, I can understand that point. With Palin, honestly, as I said elsewhere (hi lf) Palin cannot ever win a larger national election in Alaska. She has to spend her time in the lower 48 to even have a chance. You don't get to debate national policy up there, you just don't. You're too far removed. Between this issue and the RNC going to whore her out for all the money she can raise (ohhhh the puns, ), this, IMO, is why she resigned. She didn't do that good of a job when she was in the lower 48.

brendol, your opinion is your opinion...and there's nothing wrong with that, you don't need to like him. Vin Scully is awesome, but in a different way. He frames the game with words, which isn't easy. Harry Caray, love him or hate him, was the dude sitting next to you in the bleachers getting wicked hammered with you. Bob Costas is an encyclopedia of baseball knowledge. Hawk Harrelson is the guy I wished I knew, who played the game, and had story after story, some of them, how shall I say, embellished...but still a great story teller. And Stone is the guy I wished I had as a coach in Little League. They all have their good things and bad things. And I've said this before, but if you want to hear bad announcers...check out the Rangers and Astros. It's like watching golf. *snore*

This could've been originally been an idea when Wise was on the DL. Before the second coming of Scotty Pods. At this point...ain't gonna happen.

QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Jul 7, 2009 -> 04:36 PM) As someone who spent 3 days in KC last year for a Sox series and sat in 110 heat index everyday, as someone who spent 3 days in Cincinnati this year for a Sox series with a 100 heat index everyday, and as someone who has been to Vegas in July three times for a week each time....I know heat. While that may be hot in the short term...it's not 100+ heat index for an entire summer. Kap? Tex? Wanna join me on this one. -

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 7, 2009 -> 04:49 PM) Why slam Cowley? He is a good writer and makes his stuff available immediately on twitter. If you read this site, Mr. Cowley, I think you do a fine job. Thanks Greg, I'm glad I have at least one fan on this boa.... oops.

QUOTE (The Critic @ Jul 7, 2009 -> 11:56 AM) I was only speaking for myself. People feel what they feel, and it's all valid. I just don't make that connection with people I don't know personally - that certainly doesn't make me right. I don't either, for the most part. But there are certain people, for whatever reason, that I do connect to. Actually, I think Jim Henson was the only one. I certainly didn't make a shrine for him or sob uncontrollably, but it was a horrible day considering what he did for so many children...and his legacy continues with my son, who loves watching re-runs of the Muppet Show on DVD.

Steve McNair shot to death
CanOfCorn replied to whitesoxfan101's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jul 7, 2009 -> 11:46 AM) It's possible this all is the case, but you know as well as I do that it's very, very unlikely. Odds are, McNair was cheating with a younger woman who he thought he could have a good time with, and it ended up having a bizarre and tragic ending. I'm not saying you are wrong, but the way the wife reacted, the fact that the car they found was registered to McNair AND his mistress, and the lack of surprise about this other woman, it leads me to believe that McNair was either ending a relationship or in some sort of agreement. -
"Welcome Cubs fans to TD Ameritrade Field!"
CanOfCorn replied to knightni's topic in The Diamond Club
QUOTE (BearSox @ Jul 7, 2009 -> 12:07 PM) So, they will rebuild Wrigley? You gotta go with the opposite of what Bruce says. Also, lets say the Cubs do rebuild wrigley in the same spot and have to play a year in the cell... wouldn't we make a good profit off of that? Wouldn't the revenue drawn into the stadium when the Cubs play come to JR and the sox? Or at least a portion of it? Or at the very least, you'd think we'd make the cubs at least pay to play there. I think in this case, with the rough negotiations and the fact that the Ricketts almost couldn't buy them, I wouldn't imagine they make enough for a full rebuild. I think Levine said the Cubs made $45 mil last year. And that is probably true since the Trib is publicly owned, they would have to release that. Anyway, that's not even CLOSE to what they would need to rebuild it. I don't think the Sox would make a dime off of the Cubs playing at Comiskey. The ISFA would. -
Peter Gammons just said on ESPN 1000: He would be surprised if Kenny didn't make a phone call and put together a package for Roy Halladay. Didn't say Kenny DID, just said he would be surprised if Kenny didn't try. No other details.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jul 7, 2009 -> 11:28 AM) What are they saying? I just turned it on, but it'sa at commercial Bruce was basically saying that there is no way they do a full re-do of Wrigley. Won't have the money to do that. The best part was Bruce saying, "In some parts of Chicago, it would be condemned, but this is Wrigley Field." -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 7, 2009 -> 11:08 AM) I could not possibly care less about that. I could.

Jim Henson hit me pretty hard. The Muppets were such a huge and important part of my upbringing. And sorry Tex, PSFJ and Critic, I shed a tear. I never met Jim Henson but he was in my house everyday for many years teaching me and making me laugh. And still does to this day.

QUOTE (dbaho @ Jul 7, 2009 -> 10:56 AM) After today's 4th stage Time Trial, Lance Armstrong is now less than a second behind the leader. So will he win it? This is a tough one. I'm wondering if he and Contador have an agreement? Lance takes some stages, but he helps Contador win it all. It's kind of odd.

Steve McNair shot to death

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 7, 2009 -> 11:16 AM) Exactly. If you are in a miserable marriage, then either stay in and try to fix it, or get a divorce. No one "Drives" their spouse to cheat, people make a choice. However, it IS possible that they had some sort of arrangement or understanding allowing for this. That does happen on occasion, though I personally don't see that as a true marriage. Andrei Kirilenko says hi! And we don't know, they could have been in the process of getting a divorce. Or legally separated. I have to admit, when I was in the process, I was banging every chick I could...technically, I wasn't divorced, but since my wife left me for another guy and lived in Cali, I figured...what the f***? So, don't judge until you know all the facts.
