  1. QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Dec 17, 2015 -> 09:44 AM) RF is obvious...,but I think people are forgetting about platoon partner for LaRoche. 1 that can preferably play corner OF defense well so Melky can gett off the field as often as possible. Provided LaRoche is still on the team of course SP? Not at all. Let EJ pitch, he's fine. And unfortunately Danks isn't going anywhere. We should have 1 of, it not the best, top 3 SP's in baseball. Avi is fine for a platoon with Laroche and 5th outfielder/late pinch hitter. He can still hit lefties. We've lost 3 relievers who could have been in the pen this year, although none of them on opening day. Would like to see the pen shored up and bring in an emergency starter. But yeah any money spent should all go towards getting an OF.
  2. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 17, 2015 -> 08:34 AM) Why can't NL players hit in the AL? Not sure I understand the logic behind this theory. I don't subscribe to it in this case, but lots of bad pitching in the NL that will stay on rosters due to it being easier to pitch in so they look effective. Those same pitchers wouldn't make it in the AL. NL batters see inferior and can mash it.
  3. I never want to see Mike Olt again. Extremely minor complaint but we really should have drafted a reliever in the rule 5.
  4. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 06:15 PM) Umm....these are two guys who are total bums. They invested nothing in them. This is purely depth moves. Why would these moves (1.5M for Nava and whatever small amount for Gentry and his .396 OPS for 2015) preclude a club from going after a major free agent. Angels themselves said they're out.
  5. Really don't think Puig will end up costing a top of the line prospect anymore.
  6. Dodgers fans seem to think is the start of a bigger deal. Makes sense. Would love to get involved in a 3 way again with them and grab Puig.
  7. QUOTE (beautox @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 03:38 PM) Cespedes since he won't cost a pick, followed by Upton and Gordon. Just want to say again giving up your second pick should barely be even a footnote when you're handing out 9 figure contracts. Don't risk f***ing up the future roster and payroll flexibility on a stupid draft pick.
  8. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 03:23 PM) By the way, for those clamoring for Ethier (who I've long been an advocate of), if we did this same package and got Ethier, I'd be telling you all we got hosed and robbed blindly (due to his payroll constraints). The initial thoughts were the sox got both, not one of frazier or ethier.
  9. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 12:10 PM) Sanchez as the utility guy looks pretty good. Sox seemed very afraid of playing him on the left side of the infield .
  10. If the Warriors don't win the NBA championship this past year, I'm not sure this deal gets done as is. Probably Trayce's most valuable asset to is his name value.
  11. QUOTE (Knuckles @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 11:39 AM) Jim Bowden ‏@JimBowden_ESPN 36s36 seconds ago Frankie Montas best prospect moved in three way deal.and Dodgers get him not Reds? Has to be more to this deal…doesn’t make sense on surface I sort of agree. I feel like there's still another piece here.
  12. Montas is the only thing of real value. Sucks for him too because he's probably most valuable on the White Sox.
  13. Pretty weird that Montas is the one going. The biggest names are almost always the ones named first. But he certainly isn't the biggest name here...?
  14. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 08:16 AM) I just don't see how Bryant can win his grievance. Of course he was ready to be called up 9 games earlier. Of course the Cubs used the system to their advantage, but what constitutes the guy is ready? If someone hits a certain amount of HRs or his average is at a certain level, does he have to be called up? Everyone is different. Bryant will get paid plenty if he is as good as advertised moving forward. Boras tries to extract every dollar he can. That is fine. Teams try to save every dollar they can, which is also fine. Hopefully Boras poisons his mind and creates a Cubs rift.
  15. QUOTE (daggins @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 07:36 AM) "I didn't take the highest offer," Heyward told reporters. "For me, a winning attitude and culture and the fact that this group is such a young group and I could grow myself with it." As for the former, well, Price got 217MM over 7 years, is older, and has been produced value similarly (~5 fWAR per season) per year. So if getting 30 million less (and far less AAV) than a similar player isn't an underpay, I don't know what is. The cubs front loaded his contracted so he gets his money before he opts out so I guess he can say that but he's still pretty much lying.
  16. QUOTE (daggins @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 07:20 AM) Oh and the Heyward deal is a substantial underpay and a major coup by the Cubs. He even took less money to sign with them. That's false
  17. QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Dec 15, 2015 -> 08:11 AM) Didn't Kang work out pretty well for the Pirates? How does Kim stack up against Kang? Kang broke the game of baseball his final year in Korea, though the rest of his career wasn't anything special. I think he's pretty impossible to compare anyone to.
  18. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Dec 14, 2015 -> 10:21 PM) You can have Upton, I'm not interested in him. I'm looking at OBP type players to help the Sox pathetic offense score some runs. Keep the line moving so to speak. So sign the guy with an over .350 career obp?
  19. QUOTE (Hatchetman @ Dec 14, 2015 -> 08:06 PM) How about a real life broadcaster instead of an ex-Sox player? Someone of the John Rooney ilk. Not that I loved him, but still he was a pro. Barnhart!
  20. I hope Brian Barnhart applied. He's the Fighting Illini play by play guy for both football and basketball. Legit my favorite play by play guy in all of sports. He was the Angels play by play guy before wanting to return home to Champaign. I imagine this schedule would work for him.
