QUOTE(whitesox07champs @ Jun 1, 2007 -> 10:23 PM) With the recent stupid managerial decisions by Ozzie guillen I am left wondering if changing managers wouldnt be the worst move for the white sox at this moment! If we were to get a new manager who could it be? I know many people are going to be mad for this but Dusty is a name that comes to mind. He just left a cursed cubs team which couldnt win if they had the 1927 yankees roster. Dusty did a bad job with the cubs but I believe that bringing him with the white sox would give this team the lift it needs! I don't know if Dusty is as bad as his last 3 seasons with the Cubs implied, but HELL NO!

If Carlos Zambrano is a free agent, would you sign him?

I would, because Coop'll fix 'em! Seriously, though I think he is hurt and is capable of pitching waaaay better than his current stats imply. -

QUOTE(SoxFan562004 @ Jun 1, 2007 -> 02:56 PM) They'll move Zambrano I think. They won't get what they would have got in the offseason, but they could still get something good for him. I'm sure Omar Minaya is on the phone right now. Trying to get the real Zambrano this time?

QUOTE(South Side Fireworks Man @ Jun 1, 2007 -> 01:10 PM) I hope Owens starts every game in LF and Terrero every game in CF for the next few weeks. Remember when Pods/Erstad/Dye was the worst OF in MLB? The worst got worse.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jun 1, 2007 -> 10:55 AM) Wouldn't that suggest that he must do something right? DOES NOT COMPUTE

Ok, so as of today, Ozzie is 296-239 (.553). His RS/RA is 2674/2502. Using the "lower standard error" exponent of 1.82, his pythagorean suggests he should have won ~283.66 games in that time. Hence, he is +12 through 3 1/3 years. That's not even including the playoffs. +12 is well beyond the error.

QUOTE(StrangeSox @ Jun 1, 2007 -> 09:41 AM) So Guillen gets the credit for those 8 games, and not a pitching staff that managed to hold razor-thin leads? My point is that there's a certain combination, and something like a manager's "impact factor" isn't really quantifiable. Edit: What sort of margin of error does this method produce? 5% would be 8 games over the course of a season. I don't buy this as a tool to evaluate managers at all. There are way, way too many factors. I found this: Exponent Error 2.00 4.126 1.90 4.044 1.89 4.041 1.88 4.040 1.87 4.039 1.86 4.040 1.85 4.041 1.84 4.044 1.83 4.048 1.82 4.052 In this So standard error is roughly 4 games. Still, to end up on the plus side over quite a few seasons indicates that Guillen is doing something right.

QUOTE(StrangeSox @ Jun 1, 2007 -> 09:23 AM) It surprises me because I have no idea what this means or how they can possibly hope to quantify something like a manager's "impact factor." There is such a thing as the pythagorean index. Your winning percentage should be roughly RS^2 / (RS^2 + RA^2) Where RS is Runs Scored and RA is Runs Against. This method has been remarkably accurate. What it is saying is that the 2005 team won 8 more games than it should have, according to the Pythagorean Index.

QUOTE(South Side Fireworks Man @ Jun 1, 2007 -> 07:46 AM) Baker is right. The Sox will start their playoff push with a win tonight. Impossible with a two arm bullpen.
