QUOTE(Soxfest @ May 28, 2007 -> 02:30 PM) Thats how you hold a team after you take the lead OZZIE! By sending your staff ace out there to pitch another inning? My memory is short... but I think that's what Ozzie did.

QUOTE(Heads22 @ May 28, 2007 -> 02:30 PM) He started slowly, however. Everyone's had their rocky points. Evidently Greg Walker moved on from the offense and is now working with the Sox BP. Coop'll fix 'em!

QUOTE(fathom @ May 28, 2007 -> 02:28 PM) Contreras should have been pulled after Bartlett's single for Logan. You have to know in your heart of hearts that even if Ozzie does that we're still probably losing this game.

QUOTE(mr_genius @ May 28, 2007 -> 02:22 PM) who the hell did you guys want him to bring in? the whole pen has been sucking lately. no matter what ozzie does some of you guys will spaz Bingo. Thorton and Jenks have been the closest thing to reliable lately... Everyone else sucks in a big way. We have serious bullpen issues.

QUOTE(RibbieRubarb @ May 24, 2007 -> 07:56 AM) To me that was one of the 'Stand up and Cheer' moments of the series! Which is what I did and scared my family upstairs!! Yeah, it's funny. The episode where they found the van was at the time considered by many purists as "filler"... instead that episode set up the "Roger Workman" story line and set up a fairly iconic moment: Hurley saves the day. And to think, they'd all have been screwed if Ben was a decent human being and had Richard recover the van and Roger's body.

Unless his father is still alive? And remember what Desmond said: The picture changes. Maybe that is one possible future...

QUOTE(JohnCangelosi @ May 23, 2007 -> 08:05 AM) Agreed. I was looking at the June schedule, and if we can get our bullpen in order, we could really begin to turn on the heat. This club is good enough to do so, there is no doubt in my mind. Ozzie will have to make better decisions with who to bring in when and when to pull people from the pen, however. It's hard to make good decisions when 1/3 of your bullpen is always the wrong answer. I mean, how rough is it that Ozzie can barely count on Sisco for mop-up duty? I swear I thought he was going to manage to give up the lead last night. Mac's really got to get his s*** together, too. Thorton's been solid lately -- hopefully Ozzie uses him in the set-up role rather than a lefty specialist. Logan seems to be effective enough to use as the lefty specialist. Really, only Thorton and Jenks have been pretty solid overall. Aardsma has been good overall, but had a pretty troubling stretch this weekend. Hopefully it was just the "old team" jitters. Despite his great start (and I think he'll be better off as a starter someday), Masset has been inconsistent out of the pen.

QUOTE(WCSox @ May 23, 2007 -> 11:08 AM) Outside of Sabathia, the Indians don't have nearly as much talent in their rotation as the Tigers. Even before they broke out last season, Bonderman and Verlander were both projected to be studs. Throw in All-Star Kenny Rogers, and that's a much better staff talent-wise than Sabathia, Lee, and Byrd. And while Betancourt is good, Zumaya and Rodney are better than anything that Cleveland has in their 'pen. I'm not saying that the Indians don't have the talent to win, but pitching is what's going to determine whether they do or not. Detroit's staff lead the league in ERA last season. Cleveland's is currently ranked #7. That's why I'm not worried about them right now. There are a few other things. First is that the 2007 Indian Bullpen is nowhere near the 2006 Tigers Bullpen. I think that'll correct itself out in the coming months. Second, as was pointed out elsewhere somewhere, the Indians have a ridiculous Home/Road record split: (17-4) and (10-12). While the road split might improve, it's just ridiculous to expect them to win over 80% of their home games. Couple those two points with the hope that the Sox have had their "bad part" of the season out of the way and I think the Sox have a fair chance to overtake at least Cleveland in the standings.

Favor: Can nobody post spoilers or even hints of the spoilers in this thread? This is like the one message board I can go to and hopefully count on not seeing something on the level of "Snape kills Dumbledore". I really appreciate it!

Is there any chance we can land Conley? Other than that, I'm guessing that Hawes or Hibbert will be the best big man available. -
QUOTE(TheBigHurt @ May 22, 2007 -> 08:50 PM) Holy crap, I just realized something. Aren't we 4-1 against the A's this year? I remember a certain GIF animation of Prancer being born out of the one loss... I also remember that board sparked a huge debate about Anderson. That seems like so long ago.

Whatever you do, don't reference to the Bride and Groom sleeping together. I was at a wedding and the mostly drunk Maid-of-Honor (and Bride's former roommate) referenced how great it was when the Groom would make them breakfast. I think Grandma and Mama just about had a heart attack.

QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ May 22, 2007 -> 10:09 AM) Give it up, not worth it. You're too young to be struggling like this. I'm going to second this. If you want to go the "bad boy" route that Rock suggested, you're probably gonna get hosed in the end. Either you end up breaking up and it wasn't really worth the trouble or else you end up getting married and her parents already hate you. The better strategy, if you actually care about this girl, would be to try to win her parents over. It sounds dumb and all, but show them you're a good guy. I dunno, offer to mow their lawn or help around their house. Let Ma and Pa get to know you a bit. I'm guessing that the big problem in this case is that they don't know you, rather than being super-religious. As they get more comfortable with you, I'm sure you'll notice that they'll let their daughter do more and more with you.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ May 20, 2007 -> 09:04 PM) Masset does a lot better with ground balls than Brandom, and Danks strikeout ratio is a lot better than Brandon. I'm not saying either guy we got is a star yet, but they'll both be at minimum similar to McCarthy, so to get 2 for 1, with one of ours a lefty, for Brandon, is a steal at minimum. But I'm glad to see Brandon McCarthy reads the boards Not quite. Judging by the avatar, that's Brandon's girlfriend...

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ May 21, 2007 -> 08:22 AM) Masset isnt stretched out enough to go more than he did yesterday. I think we saw something else also Mike. Remember how many people were upset that Freddy and Bmac were traded because we didnt have a 6th starter waiting in the weeds in case of injury. Well everyone, Massett looks like he can step in. I really think we will sign Buerhle. I think Garland or Contreras is a goner. They have tried to trade Garland a few times and Contreras isnt getting younger. I'd say trade Contreras. Garland is pretty solid and seems to rack up the wins for some reason.

What an awful decision to leave Mark in, compounded by bringing in "Mr. Gascan". Ooof.

QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ May 16, 2007 -> 02:26 PM) You're really fishing there, Wedge. I think that line of thinking is dangerous. Make no mistake about it, the Garcia deal opened up the slot for McCarthy; and when Texas made and offer including one of his favorite prospects in baseball, Williams couldn't pass on the McCarthy deal. Touche. -

QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ May 16, 2007 -> 02:23 PM) I'll take the perennial 200IP pitcher, thank you. I really don't see where a Garcia v. Danks situation would have presented itself. Still, Danks is the real deal. Love. That. Kid. trading Garcia opened up the slot for Danks... eventually. Yeah, Danks is great!
