  1. QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Jun 26, 2006 -> 06:43 PM) It's highly unlikely that B-Mac starts in the second half now that he's been in the bullpen all year. It's not that easy to suddenly start going longer outings mid-season. Vazquez is also going to post an ERA lower than 5 too, since his ERA hasn't even been that high for 24 hours yet. You're taking a guy's numbers when they're at their lowest point and assuming that he's going to keep pitching like that. Anyways, Garland hasn't been able to keep his ERA under 5.50, and you're not complaining about him. Vazquez, Garland, Garcia, they've all pitched like s***. The only difference is that Vazquez had a decent start to the season, so his sucktitude is a more recent phenomenon. I think of our pitchers, Vazquez is probably the most frustrating because anybody who watches baseball can tell you he's got the arm, but the second things go wrong he falls apart. As has been mentioned, it's like Contreras prior to the ASB last year and Garland forever, although Vazquez definitely has a better arm that Garland. I know we traded El Duque because he wanted to start, but I guess I question why we traded for another starter if we were sure McCarthy would come through as a starter. That said, I guess it's always possible that Vazquez turns it around Contreras style, but I just don't see it. At least Contreras had done it before in Cuba. Sure Vazquez had 3 nice seasons in Montreal, but it certainly isn't the body of work Contreras had back in Cuba. On the plus side, Vazquez should eat up 200 innings, which isn't a bad thing.
  2. QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Jun 26, 2006 -> 05:18 PM) Like you said, it's 6 games! I don't see them winning more than 2 of those the way they have played against the top teams. That could very likely be the difference in the race. The difference could also be the Sox playing s***ty against very, very bad KC and Cleveland teams.
  3. QUOTE(bmags @ Jun 26, 2006 -> 01:53 PM) Eh..El Duque was a minor part of the deal. Chris Young was the centerpiece of this, and yes I'd expect we get more value out of Vazquez considering what we gave up. Considering the run support Vazquez has gotten, he should have an even higher win total. I believe if Brandon McCarthy spent the entire season in Vazquez's spot, he'd have more wins and better numbers. I also think Vizcaino would be posting better numbers out of the pen than McCarthy, since McCarthy clearly is still adjusting to bp duty. And, we'd still have a valuable trading piece and insurance for Anderson in Chris Young, who's having a great season at Arizona's AAA club. Right now, this trade is a loss for the White Sox that will likely become more lopsided with time. Sure, there is a chance that Cooper can fix the breakdowns that Vazquez seems to experience. But, at this point, my money is on Vazquez continuing to be the same pitcher he's been the last 3 years. damn your realism!
  4. Anyone seen the plane-crash baseball game? It's on YouTube somewhere
  5. QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Jun 26, 2006 -> 11:10 AM) My bosses are season ticket holders for the Cubs. They actually talk about the Sox more than they do the Cubs anymore. One of them has sold off most of his season tix, but held onto the ones for Friday. The reason? He says he wants to see the Sox play. You realize the s***load of cash the guy has probably made selling his tickets?
  6. I'm glad Thome is slumping when the team is hot. It means he'll carry us when the rest of the team is slumping.
  7. QUOTE(zoomzoomK @ Jun 25, 2006 -> 11:42 PM) Houston (38-38, 13-20 away) Rodriguez(8-4, 4.45 ERA) Detroit (51-25, 23-14 home) Miner(3-1, 2.08 ERA) Since you guys care enough to create the "Tiger Watch" thread, I figured you may as well know the matchup which will most likely leave the Sox a full 2.0 games back. I doubt any of you knowledgable gentleman though that the Mike Maroth injury would send the Tigers into a tailspin, but just in case, check out Zach Miner's numbers. Its always nice to pick up a top notch Atlanta Braves pitching prospect by trading a guy (Kyle Farnsworth) who wasn't going to re-sign anyways. I think its obvious I'm not a "troll", so please don't treat me like I'm an idiot. Trolls say things like: Sox suck, Thome blows, etc... I'm trying to have fun here, just like y'all I was hoping for some drop off, but not an entire tailspin. I definitely was not expecting an even better pitcher to step-up... My last hopes are that Verlander hits the wall since he's pitched only 130 innings before or that Rogers goes into his 2nd half funk.
  8. QUOTE(zoomzoomK @ Jun 25, 2006 -> 11:03 PM) I understand that we have to talk trash to each other to make it seem like we're true fans, but can't we just appreciate the fact that the AL Central has the best two teams (irregardless of who is best and who is second) in the ENTIRE major leagues at this moment. As a Tigers fan, I would love to win the division but after watching the losingest franchise over the past 10 years, I wouldn't cry too hard if we managed the wild card either. It's impossible to speak for all other Tiger fans, but I'm pretty sure we're all feeling the same here. Imagine this scenario: A cop pulls you over on a Friday night at 3:00 am for going 20 over, decides that you are drunk, tells you that DUIs are expensive, and then lets you go without giving you even a ticket for speeding. That feeling that you get when you pull (I'm assuming, lol) into your driveway realizing that you aren't in jail: That is what I have felt like for the last 2 months. Go Tigers, I hope this race goes down to the wire. It seems to be way more fun this way. May the best team win, and may the second best team whip up on the AL East in the first round of the playoffs. remind me not to drive in Avondale
  9. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Jun 25, 2006 -> 10:15 PM) LOL!! Anyone want to pipe up with "Its over"? LOL I'll take it... It's ova
  10. QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Jun 25, 2006 -> 07:41 PM) Javy Garland. hilarious. Is there ANY chance that he pulls a 2005 Contreras?
  11. You should definitely read this Verdi article: http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sp...cs-home-utility
  12. I'd say Push, too. I might go in favor of AJP, because Pudge has had some weird injury issues this season.
