Ricky Williams 'absolutely' set for Fins Camp
Wedge replied to greasywheels121's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
I think that the Dolphins are going to try to trade RW for basically whatever they can get. They just took a runningback at the #2 pick, so I think that makes the most sense for them. -
McCarthy needs to be on the staff. Even if he isn't a starter, we can really use him. Wasn't there always talk of Contreras being put into the pen? That he had closer/set-up potential?

I remember reading an article in either SI or ESPN back in maybe 2001 or 2002 about comparisons for some young, promising pitchers at the time. I remember in that one they compared Wood to Nolan Ryan. But one from that article that always stuck in my mind was that they said Buehrle was projected to be the next David Cone. Here's an article about DC's career: http://www.baseballlibrary.com/baseballlib.../Cone_David.stm and one with the breakdown of his stats: http://slam.canoe.ca/BaseballGreatPerforma..._conestats.html Something interesting is that they're both from Missouri. Anyway, I thought it was a pretty decent comparison, considering how Buehrle has played out the last few years. Anybody have any other good comparisons?

QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ May 25, 2005 -> 08:19 AM) This makes sense if they feel he's not ready to come up this weekend. It would be nice to have him here to battle the AL teams before the NL road trip but .240 for Charlotte w/out a HR means he's not ready. Don't put too much value in AAA numbers: consider what McCarthy was doing there.

I'd just like to indicate Lidge blew a save against the Cubs last night so that obviously invalidates him as a good option as a closer

QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ May 25, 2005 -> 08:00 AM) I don't know if it's been said yet but Josh Fields is the heir-apparent for 3B. That means the WSox only need a rent-a-player for that position. Polanco fits the bill & his play would determine his future with the WSox. Either offer him a multi-year deal, arbitration, or let him walk. He should qualify for Type A arbitration if the WSox play him everyday in the 2nd half. He was among the leaders for the Phils in win share. I really don't know why he fell out of favor with the manager there. But how long will we need to rent-a-player? Considering how he is doing at the moment, I doubt Fields will be MLB ready for the 2006 season, perhaps not even the 2007 season. Three years is a long "rental".

QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ May 24, 2005 -> 11:55 PM) And here's the other deleted scene with Biggs and a bunch of other friends of Luke's at Toshi Station. http://www.starwarz.com/tbone/cut_scenes/e...ggs_returns.htm I remember this from the novelization and also from the damn Star Wars trading cards that came out after Ep IV. Yet another scene that would have made sense putting back in place with the special editions... Thanks for the info. I had read that in an original draft of the script and was very surprised when you said it was present. I'll take a look at this sites you sent me. Thanks!

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ May 24, 2005 -> 11:56 PM) I'd offer up Crede, Liotta and Gio and than someone like Tracey, Lummy, Whisler. Its a hell of a deal for the Rays, they'd be getting some high potential guys. We're giving up an awful lot in that deal. Maybe Crede, Liotta and one of Tracey, Lummy, Whisler. Otherwise... that's just too much.

QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ May 24, 2005 -> 07:47 PM) the footage with Luke and Biggs on Tatooine. Running into Bigs later on Yavin never made much sense without seeing that establishing footage first. Is this on the DVD?

Just to add something: doesn't Shingo have a no trade clause in his contract?

I heard that he's at 185 lbs. right now. Holy God. -
QUOTE(Leonard Zelig @ May 23, 2005 -> 11:32 PM) Ok, I have a nerd question. Yoda was supposed to be several hundred years old right? Is this because of his race(whatever that is), or does it have something to do with the force? Yes, it is because of his race. I guess his unidentified people live very long. As an aside, Chewbacca is 200 years old. Some races in Star Wars live a long time! Donkey: Greedo shoots first is one of the most despised changes to the original Star Wars.

I'd recommend contraction.

QUOTE(witesoxfan @ May 23, 2005 -> 02:16 PM) I personally am not comfortable with the thought of Dustin Hermanson closing out game 6 of the ALCS with the Red Sox ahead in the series 3 games to 2. I'd much rather it be Wagner(because there is no chance at all that Lidge will be traded, unless we were willing to give up like McCarthy and one of the big 2 OF prospects in Anderson and Sweeney, and that would be beyond dumb - same goes for Brazoban and Gagne) I'm not too worried, because even if we gave up the lead, we'd be facing Foulke in the bottom of the ninth...

QUOTE(CubKilla @ May 23, 2005 -> 09:39 AM) When Leia tells Luke about her "mother," I'm quite sure she was referring to her "adoptive mother" since, at the time this was said, neither Luke, Leia, Vader..... nor the audience for that matter, knew that Luke or Leia were brother and sister and that Vader was their father. I disagree, I think Leia knew she was adopted. Here is some dialoge from ROTJ.

QUOTE(BlackBetsy @ May 23, 2005 -> 09:34 AM) Well, I think it's an interesting concept. I like picking up Teixera for third base...but I'm not sure where we would play Blaylock. I love the idea of some power from the LH side of the plate, but we have a huge logjam (like we always do) of 1B/DH types, which will get worse when the Big Hurt returns. You have them backwards: Teixera plays 1B/DH and Blaylock plays 3B.

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ May 23, 2005 -> 09:30 AM) I think you mean Bagwell and Biggio are in the twilight of their careers. Berkman is only 29. My mistake, you're right I did mean Bagwell... all those B's. I edited the original post to reflect that.
-
No, but only because I think McCarthy could be our version of Mark Prior. Additionally, some scouting reports note that Teixeira seems to benefit from playing at Ameriquest Field, as he can lift balls into the air to right and take advantage of the short right-field wall. We get left short in the outfield, too. I like Rowand and McCarthy too much to do this trade.
-
QUOTE(Jabroni @ May 23, 2005 -> 09:05 AM) Agreed. I would trade either Anderson or Sweeney for Lidge as well. Would the Astros? I doubt it. The Astros used to have probably the best 7-8-9 combination in MLB when they had Lidge, Dotel, and Wagner. When they were competitive, they were willing to give away two of those pieces, thus it would seem like when they aren't competitive, they'd be willing to give away the final piece. Additionally, you have to figure that Bagwell and Biggio are in the absolute twilight of their careers and that Clemens won't be there next year. If we offered them a package of their choice of Anderson/Sweeney, Munoz/Diaz, I'd think they'd have a tough time turning that down. Lidge is only 28, so it may be unlikely that they deal him at all, but seeing how the Astros moved Dotel and Wagner in the last two years, it certainly is possible.
-
Lidge also has operated as a set-up man, both for Dotel and Wagner when they were with the Astros. Thus, we know he could be successful in that role. I really like Lidge, but I don't know if we'd have a real shot at getting him without giving up one of Sweeney/Anderson/McCarthy. That said, Lidge is really good and I'd be willing to part with either Sweeney or Anderson for him.

Phil Rogers wants teams to bail out Cubs...
Wedge replied to SoxFan562004's topic in The Diamond Club
As the Sox are showing this year, it seems that paying four quality players $2.5 million is better than paying one elite player $10 million. This is the philosophy of successful, low payroll teams. -
QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ May 23, 2005 -> 05:14 AM) Wedge was the only monor character in all three of the original films. He was part of the original Rebel X-Wing fighter group gunning for the Death Star in Hope, was in the Hoth battle as you said, and was part of the final attack on the new Death Star in Jedi. He's the guy in the orange pilot suit partying down with everyone and the Ewoks in the final scene of Jedi. His last name is Antilles, so I assume there is a familial tie in to Captain Antilles who took over ownership of C3P0 and R2D2 between Sith and Hope. As you can tell by my avatar, my name does in fact come from the pilot Wedge Antilles, who appears in all of the original episodes. Wedge, however is not related to Captain Antilles as Wedge is from Corellia and Captain is from Alderaan. I guess Antilles is a common cross-cultural last name in the Star Wars universe. There is another character named Bail Antilles who proceeds Bail Organa as the senator from Alderaan during Phantom Menace. A piece of interesting trivia is that the actor who plays Wedge, Dennis Lawson, is the uncle of Ewan McGregor.

QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ May 22, 2005 -> 10:17 PM) So is there any valid reasoning for why Buehrle is NOT an ace? People say he isn't because he doesn't have great stuff. I think he is.

What moves,if any, should KW make at deadline?
Wedge replied to chisoxtime's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Trading for relief pitchers is a lot riskier than trading for other positions, I think. Many relief pitchers enjoy success as a product of their utilization with their team, but it seems like many struggle when they move to a new team mid-season because they do not have a really well-defined role on the pitching staff. When you get a guy like Wagner of Gagne, of course this is less-likely. However, beware of getting a mid-reliever or a set-up man. -
QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ May 22, 2005 -> 09:28 PM) Now, what I didn't much like at the end of Sith – from a continuity standpoint – was seeing Vader and the Emperor together on the ship bridge watching the Death Star being constructed. Vader being basically the right hand guy during the construction flies in the face of his, "Don't be to proud of this technological terror you've created..." rant to the generals in Ep IV. Not a big deal I guess, but as much as Lucas puts the continuity cops on all teh writers doing novels and comics and such, he could spend a little more time worrying about continuity himself. The whole Death Star thing conflicts with a number of stories produced about its designer, Bevel Lemelisk. These stories were released by Lucas himself (or LucasArts for a number of video games, etc). Basically Lucas just ripped up some canon, which is stupid.
