  1. QUOTE(sox-r-us @ Jun 1, 2005 -> 02:08 PM) Castilla in 2005: 49 G, 173 AB, 21 R, 50 H, 3 SB, 4 HR, 25 RBI, 0.289 AVG, 0.363 OBP, 0.451 SLG% Chavez in 2005: 51 G, 202 AB, 19 R, 44 H, 0 SB, 4 HR, 23 RBI, 0.218 AVG, 0.276 OBP, 0.317 SLG% Cruddy in 2005: 50 G, 163 AB, 20 R, 37 H, 0 SB, 5 HR, 18 RBI, 0.227 AVG, 0.286 OBP, 0.368 SLG% So are you entertaining trade offers for AJ? By asking the Nationals to trade Castilla, you're basically doing the same thing. Besides, Crede's HR production is 25% better than Castilla's
  2. Another thing about Chavez: I believe that Marte was responsible for breaking Chavez's hand when he hit Chavez with a pitch in 2004, leading to a 3+ week stint on the DL. Would this possibly cause chemistry issues?
  3. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jun 1, 2005 -> 01:57 PM) I fully expect Beane to make several moves during the season, Zito and Dotel will be moved before the deadline. Im not sure what would stop him from dealing Chavez as well. He's not getting much for Zito, whose stock has to be at an all-time low, but I guess some contender will be desperate for another starter around the trading deadline, so he might luck out. I'm not sure what he'll get for Dotel, either. If he moves those three: Chavez, Zito, and Dotel, at reasonable market value (i.e. 3 2006 everyday players, plus good prospects), then I'll applaud Beane for being a good GM.
  4. QUOTE(qwerty @ Jun 1, 2005 -> 01:47 PM) For chavez who is only 27 and a four time gold glover? You better believe it would cost that much. I certainly don't think he should considering his contract but it will. If Billy Beane wants to trade Chavez during the 2005 season, it will be at a diminished value. Most of the large payroll teams that are contending already have a good 3B. The teams that could use an upgrade there, such as the Dodgers or White Sox, have a somewhat limited payroll. If Oakland wants to move Chavez to either, they will either need to do so with cash considerations or fewer or lesser prospects, especially when other starting/utility quality 3B such as Polanco or Mackowiak could be had for less. The exception may be the Angels, but I'm not sure how likely Oakland is to trade within the division and how dedicated they are to Dallas McPherson for this season. Thus, it seems that Chavez won't be moved until the 2005-2006 offseason at the earliest.
  5. We'll need as many hot bats as we can get for June.
  6. Simply put: Paulie's production is not worth 8.75 million.
  7. QUOTE(soxman352000 @ Jun 1, 2005 -> 01:05 PM) No one deserves to be treated like that. If this is true Cub fans have reached a new low, which is pretty hard to do for them In every fan base, there is a wide-spectrum of intelligence. There's a section of very intelligent fans in every base, a middle group, a bunch of idiots, and a group of total morons. Certainly, each fan base has different percentages that fit into each, and some have more idiots than others in general. There are many smart Cubs fans, so it's important to not paint the Cubs fanbase with too wide of a brush. I'm sure this behavior isn't the norm for Cubs fans and we shouldn't judge all of them based on this. I mean, if we think that, then it would be reasonable for Cubs fans to paint all of us on Soxtalk as the kind of guys that would "get drunk and attack a 3rd base coach" as has happened in our recent history.
  8. Paulie isn't as bad as he's made out to be by some posters here. That said, we can certainly upgrade from him. I don't think that should be pursued until the off-season.
  9. QUOTE(chimpy2121 @ Jun 1, 2005 -> 01:20 PM) And of course the ESPN guy has to bring up the fact that Chicago is a Cubs city. :headshake Chicago is indeed a Cubs city. Wrigley is packed and the majority of baseball fans in Chicago are Cubs fans, but I just don't understand why that is. The Cubs are not a Chicago team. Rather, like the Yankees and Red Sox, they are a National team that plays to a National market. You almost never hear a Cubs player say they are playing for Chicago, but rather, for Cubs fans at best or at worst for themselves and their teammates only (one of the few exceptions I can think of is Karros). The mystique that surrounds the Cubs, "the loveable losers," is so anti-Chicago as well. Rather than a crew that uses mind-boggling excuses like "a curse" to explain decades of failure, the White Sox carry on their large shoulders the load of having thrown one of their most recent chances to win the World Series. This fix was based on players protesting management too cheap to pay them their dues, which has harbored a mistrust of upper-management that should seemingly fit the blue collar roots of Chicago. As Sox fans, we celebrate a team grounded in reality and disappointment, that seams to find ways to lose year after year, but we are realistic and understand our destiny, rather than to boundlessly embrace "next year" a notion which seems more in line with America in general and a National audience, rather than a Chicago audience. When I watch the White Sox, I enjoy a team for Chicago and not for America. It is a team that embodies me. This is Chicago's team and no one else's. If the ChiSox ever win it all, it will be a win for Chicago and not a spectacle for everyone as would be the case if the Cubs won.
  10. QUOTE(EvilJester99 @ Jun 1, 2005 -> 12:52 PM) Quick get on the bat phone and call KW and ask him what he's waiting on hehe KW? Don't you mean Anthrax?
  11. http://sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?file...universalnewads And how's this line from the video for a definition for irony: "You do something controversial, you say something controversial, it will have an impact on this team. So remember, be mindful of your actions."
  12. QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Jun 1, 2005 -> 12:00 PM) Oh I know. I just take every chance I get to show off my homerism to the guy. Well then, drink up me hearty, yo ho!
  13. QUOTE(letsgoarow @ Jun 1, 2005 -> 11:56 AM) "Coming into the season you know you're going to win 60 and lose 60," Dye said. "It's those one-run games that make the difference." does anyone remember hawk's little thing about this... i wonder if dye ripped him off ahah I think it's a common baseball "old wives tale"
  14. QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Jun 1, 2005 -> 11:58 AM) No love for Pod Squad? :headshake Pods isn't the kind of guy that they'd want on an all-star team from the OF. I'm sure they're looking for a real masher/HR guy out there in LF, rather than a run producer/base stealer.

    MLB parks

As was said already, Miller park is really nice, but lacks any sort of character. Wrigley is a dump, but it does have its charm. The Cell has gotten a lot better in the last 2 or 3 years. I'm impressed with the improvements they've made. It's a great family atmosphere. Comiskey always used to creep me out for some reason. Busch stadium is a great park.
  16. I really like the facial hair comment.
  17. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 1, 2005 -> 10:30 AM) Exactly. We don't need Walker at all, and we definately don't need to waste Brandon to have him pitch once every two weeks. If Garcia becomes gimpy, maybe we call up McCarthy. The best solution is Walker to AAA and Everett to the DL, if that's possible.
  18. How about the Twins GIVE Stewart and Jones to the Braves?
  19. How can I get her phone number? I'm a washed-up minor character from the Star Wars universe looking for companionship. S/W/M, I'm a hero of the Rebellion/New Republic and was key in the destruction of both Death Stars and numerous fleet actions, including the liberation of Coruscant. I enjoy long walks on the beaches of Alderaan (before it was destroyed), staring into the dusks of Tatooine, flying Starfighters and speeder bikes, and Gin and Tonics.
  20. So, will the Indians have 5 All-stars while the Twins and Sox have one apiece?
  21. I miss the everybody gang up on Anthrax threads.
  22. I hope we just see an absolute beat-down tonight. Gosh, that'd be really nice to see!
  23. You know, I think CC has a point, since the Indians have played pretty well against the Twins. That said... it's like he forgot that there's a team other than the Twins at the top of the division right now.
  24. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 1, 2005 -> 06:46 AM) I like the Everett to the DL option... Good idea, and it makes sense with his slump. Yes, but does he have/need the injury for that?
