The Twins are in trouble. It looks as though we'll win the division barring a major injury.

QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Jun 22, 2005 -> 01:37 PM) I'm hearing and seeing all these rumors and here is my imput on them: Roger Clemens will be traded- But probably to Texas or back to the Yankees. Barry Zito isn't going anywhere either- Beane said himself. Roy Oswalt- I just don't see the Astros trading him (pending on his contract status?) He is still young and is arguably the best pitcher in the NL. If the Astros do trade him- they would want more than prospects in return- and there is talk that they would ask for Aaron Rowand to be part of that package. I don't see KW making a move like that. Andy Pettite- I expect him to be traded to Baltamore. Jason Schmidt- This is a guy I can see KW going out and getting if El-duque continues with his arm problems. (anyone know his contract status?) Kip Wells- Another possible move KW can make. He would come cheap and has had alot of starts for Pittsburgh- he has proven to be a decent starter, would fit in just fine as our #5. If El-duque comes back healthy- I see KW adding 1 or 2 arms for the pen and thats it. That's a pretty good list. I'd say Oswalt will not be traded. Schmidt is having an awful year, you have to wonder if moving to a contender is going to help him right himself. How is Pettite any better than Duque? Wells is alright, but not too great. On your list, I think Zito is the most likely to actually get traded. Another name nobody is mentioning is Derrek Lowe. With the Dodgers losing Gagne and quickly falling off the edge of baseball, I think they might quickly find themselves in the market for some new blood for next year.

Hey, can you put NaNaNa Hey Hey Hey Good-bye on there?

After a healthiny Schilling, Boston is pretty weak in terms of starting pitching and their bullpen isn't so great. They have good hitting, but the Sox have shut that down for the most part. If we did Garland vs. Schilling, Buehrle vs. Wells, and then Garcia on the road, I think we'd have a good shot to win that series. I really don't want the Sox to face a hot Texas. I'm not sure how well they'd hold up against the Angels, either, but I like their chances against the Angels better than Texas, though.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 22, 2005 -> 10:52 AM) It would have been LaMarr Hoyt if he hadn't have thrown away his career for drugs. Right now it has to be Black Jack, simply because he went longer, but no doubt Buehrle will surpass him if he stays healthy and a White Sox. Statiscally, Buehrle should surpass McDowell either by the end of 2005 or midway through 2006. Plus, Buehrle looks like he has a real chance to basically have two careers when you compare him to McDowell.

Oh yeah, Boers and Berstein are hilarious. If you don't get it... then you're what they're making fun of.

QUOTE(TheDybber @ Jun 22, 2005 -> 09:52 AM) Offense wins games. Pitching and defense win series. And we haven't played the Rangers at Comiskey yet. yes we have, we went 2/3 against them. The only proven thing about the playoffs over the last few years is that there are MANY ways to win games and to lose them: pitching, offense, defense, baserunning, stupidity, fan interference, bad/good luck...

Not to be Dr. Doom over here, but we have lost a few serieses this year. I'll admit I'm scared to play Texas in the playoffs. I think Texas is really the team I fear the most. We'll see how we stack up against NYY and BOS in August.

QUOTE(mreye @ Jun 22, 2005 -> 07:31 AM) I didn't know that Notre Dame was in the area. Yeah, it's dumb little passages like that that really bother me about the media. I remember there was speculation about Danny Hawkins being the next ND football coach because "he's catholic".

The day I saw BB, I thought of two names to play the Joker: Johnny Depp or Adam West.

Roger Clemens is the new Randy Johnson... I don't think we want him.

QUOTE(EvilJester99 @ Jun 21, 2005 -> 09:10 PM) Yeah didn't see that one... merge this please! cheapest way to get 2 posts... ever.

Out of curiousity, the decision is up to Francona, right? Is there something about Halladay that just screams future NYY starter?

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jun 21, 2005 -> 04:52 PM) The scary part is...this leaves us with 1 backup shortstop...Willie Harris. Hopefully it won't come to that again. let's not forget Dye and Crede

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jun 21, 2005 -> 12:10 PM) My original post stated the best thing about the trade was the money being freed. I mentioned if money was no object, I'd rather have Carlos than Pods and LV. I'm not so sure. Carlos for Pods is a tough call. If you were asking who's the better outfielder, you'd probably say Lee is better in the more stereotypical sense: avg, HR, RBI. That said, Pods brings a lot to the table that you don't find in a lot of players in terms of his speed and savvy on the basepaths. Because Pods brings something that you don't find a lot of in MLB, I'd almost be really tempted to take him.

Hey, what's everybody think of the new Greenday CD? I happen to like it a lot. Also, is the new best of The Offspring CD worth it?

QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Jun 15, 2005 -> 05:44 PM) He won the World Bowl with Amsterdam. He currently holds most passing records at Illinois IIRC and he was the guy who led us to the Fiesta Bowl with Brandon Lloyd and Walter Young. Sugar bowl and I don't even go to UofI

Somebody mentioned on WSCR the thought of trying to move Cotts to fill the spot. I've gone back and forth on this one, but I think in the end it would be a mistake. When we tried starting him last year, it really seemed to screw him up for the rest of the year. I say just take our lumps with Mac now. Even if he can't help us in 2005, it may pay some good dividends for us down the road.

I heard this from a guy on the Score the other day: the White Sox are a five-tool team. They can hit for average, hit for power, base run, field, and throw. They're a six-tool team if you toss pitching in there, too. I thought it was a really great way to look at our team. We don't have a guy that is truly five-tool, but overall the players on the squad combine to make a very versitile club.
