  1. QUOTE(Y2HH @ Jul 7, 2005 -> 09:04 AM) Getting TO the postseason is almost a given at this point. It's STAYING in the postseason once there, and finishing it. As it stands, I don't see this team staying together after this season unless Reinsdorf opens the wallet...all the salarys are going to take huge jumps except for those already signed long term. We need another pitcher, and I don't think it's a starter we need, but an elite pensmen... Getting to the postseason isn't enough...been there, done that. Who on this team is not signed for 2006? Garland, but he goes through Arbitration Konerko AJ Anyone else? EDIT: I am also in the "Don't get a elite starting pitcher unless the price is dirt cheap" camp

    If Schilling moves to the bullpen or doesn't come back well as a starter, do the White Sox officially have the best AL rotation?
  3. Sorry to be silly, but has Baj even played in MLB yet?
  4. I can't remember Frank ever having a homerun tear like this. Truly remarkable.
  5. Add that one run for the NL to AL ERA conversion and they look about the same. I can't think of anybody on this board that wasn't sick of E-Lo due to "gutless performances" when we traded him.
  6. Can anyone from Futuresox if he has a 100 mph fastball? I have an oddly good feeling about this guy.
  7. Anybody have updated attendance figures?
  8. On the topic of start believing, I would say is Don't Stop Believin' in which case I forward you all to this link: awesome link
  9. I've got an idea! Let's replace Garcia with Jason Schmidt!
  10. QUOTE(VAfan @ Jul 5, 2005 -> 04:41 PM) If the Schmidt deal is really dead, which I don't for a second believe, What leads you to this belief?
  11. It's funny because it seems like most of those in support of trading for Schmidt are against trading for Clemens.
  12. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 4, 2005 -> 11:35 AM) Realistically to acquire Oswalt, you'd be talking about a package starting with Anderson, Bmac, one of Gio/Tracey/Etc and a midlevel guy. I'm not sure how that is that much different from the Crede, Anderson, good prospect trade I proposed.
  13. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 4, 2005 -> 10:20 AM) His price tag would be huge. It wouldn't just be prospects if he were available. Oswalt would likely come at a cost similar to Garcia from last year: a young MLB (Crede), and two solid prospects (Anderson and somebody else). I think that'd be a pretty good deal, actually, if we had somebody who could play 3B in Crede's absense.
  14. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 4, 2005 -> 09:51 AM) Personally I would like the Sox to acquire Andy Pettite. Is Andy really an improvement from El Duque?
  15. QUOTE(ScottPodRulez22 @ Jul 3, 2005 -> 09:19 PM) Duque/Bmac Schimdt If that's my choice? I'm picking Duque/Bmac. It's not as dumb as you think.
  16. OK, one more time: why do we want this pitcher: Age: 33 Been on the DL this year A noted power pitcher who has LOST VELOCITY will cost ~$4 million for 2005 $3.5 million for 2006 to buy out will cost at least one top prospect Record: 5-3 ERA: 5.11 WHIP: 1.59 BAA: .275 and has a pitcher's park for a home park. Because he *might* be better than our other two pitchers? Because of the pitcher he *was*? Because he *might* win us a post-season game... if his arm is still attached to his body at that point?
  17. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 3, 2005 -> 04:27 PM) Well boz obviously my scouting report means nothing but his stuff was good today. I was watching the game on mlb.tv and he had a fastball moving all over the place, a nasty splitty and a good late breaking curveball. So if today was a good day for Schmidt... what's a bad day's line look like?
  18. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 3, 2005 -> 03:20 PM) In 3 innigns against the Padres, Schmidt's been tagged for 6 runs, 5 earned. 3 walks in 3 innings. He's a clear improvement from Duque and Contreras
  19. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 3, 2005 -> 11:06 AM) Chavez is 28 years old and had 1 1/3 bad years anyone who said that he wouldn't get back to form is f***ing retarded. The difference between Schmidt and Chavez is first of all age. Chavez is 5 years younger than Schmidt and has never been injured, he was just underperforming. Schmidt on the other hand is a 32 year old pitcher with arm problems. The guy doesn't have the same velocity that he once had and because of that he is no longer the dominating pitcher he once was. However what the Giants would want for him is a package equivalent to if he was still a Cy Young calebor pitcher. Exactly. You have to examine the cause of their problems. Chavez's was that he was a career slow starter and he was receiving minimal protection in the line-up behind him. Schmidt's was an injury to perhaps the most important body part for a pitcher: the arm. Don't just look at the numbers, look at the cause of those numbers. If our scouts are telling us that Schmidt isn't going to return to form, then I have to trust their information and believe that a trade involving top prospects or major league players is not worth it.
  20. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 3, 2005 -> 03:12 AM) The contract isn't that big of a deal, he has a team option after this year with a 3 or 3.5 mill buyout. at that point we've given up two top prospects or more for half a season of a pitcher that's potentially worse than the one we've got.
  21. QUOTE(Mplssoxfan @ Jul 2, 2005 -> 09:35 PM) Here's a little caution for you Schmidt lovers (and I am one). I still want him, though. Why? Everything thus far says trading him is a mistake. In the gigantor trade thread, I think most of us agreed that we should take the scout's word for his value. Apparently, it's pretty low. Schmidt is a shell of himself. He won't help us.
  22. QUOTE(knightni @ Jul 1, 2005 -> 11:49 PM) By "AAA-like start", I meant that he will have an easier time with TB than he would have with a better MLB level team. the joke I was making was centered around the fact that he hadn't done particularly well in AAA. Then you said KC had a AAA like line-up, so the irony is that if KC was actually a AAA team, then his ugly stat-line should be expected because he had performed fairly poorly in AAA. It was a joke, but I think it went over a lot of people's heads.
  23. ALL YOUR BASE ARE BELONG TO AARON ROWAND
  24. QUOTE(knightni @ Jul 1, 2005 -> 10:23 AM) Contreras is the new "Count of 3 and 2". McCarthy vs. the D'Rays... It should be another AAA-like start for him. Of course THAT theory went to hell vs. KC. :headshake You obviously have not seen his stats in AAA, then.
