There are a lot of assumptions on here about the health of the players. A few of them will surely spend time on the DL, and it’s a lot better to have the depth of actual big leaguers instead of having to use the likes of Skole.

Just to play devils advocate, this could easily be a leak by Boras to get Cubs to finalize his deal if some of the rumors are true about Castellanos eventually going back to the Cubs.

They clearly liked Mazara for a while, as they tried to get him twice before. They clearly liked Castellanos, as they tried in the past to get him. Maybe they jumped at chance to get Mazara, regardless of their plans, as they couldn’t believe the Rangers only wanted Walker instead of Walker as the 2nd piece.

But what chips are they throwing in besides money? They’re not blocking any of the core, haven’t tied up money to when the core guys would be free agents and haven’t had to deal Vaughn or Madrigal.

Just throwing this out as a hypothetical. What if they sign EE and Castellanos and then use Mazara and Collins to acquire a stud reliever?
