and honestly, if they don't feel anyone is worth more than 25 million a year, what is their plan in case the rebuild goes well and they have to pay these guys in free agency?
So if all this is true (I give posters the benefit of the doubt), the only way for the Sox to sign Manny is if the market total collapses and they're the last one standing at 25 mil?
All this 7/175 nonsense is doing then is opening the door for a "mystery" team to talk themselves into pursuing Machado and possibly matching the Sox and being a more desired franchise for him.
Given the way reporting has gone, we'll probably see one soon that says "Sox camp hasn't talked to Machado in 2 weeks" or "Sox having serious discussions with Moustakas".
I really love the point badger made about Lozano saving face by pointing to how he got a team to raise their offer from 175 to 250, for example. And yes, I trust Hector Gomez above these other guys.
Cast doubt in the mind of Phillies that Lozano is being truthful to them. If he says Sox are offering 250 and media reports 200, then maybe Phillies don’t think they have to go as high as Lozano says they do.
Shouldn’t that make you think that there’s no way they could really get him for 25 mil a year? Nightengale is only reporting what the Sox want out there.
