QUOTE (Soxnfins @ Dec 14, 2017 -> 01:32 AM) Hypothetical here: Would you do Rutherford and someone like say, A.J. Puckett for Machado? Let’s say in a perfect world, the O’s accept this offer. Possibly but why would the Orioles do that
-
QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Dec 14, 2017 -> 01:32 AM) Unless Machado is engaged/married to Renteria’s second cousin I don’t see him signing an extension. Perfect
-
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Dec 14, 2017 -> 01:31 AM) Sure, a guy later in his career who cares as much about being comfortable, not a young guy who is the 2nd biggest free agent available. And it's not like he has any previous ties here
-
QUOTE (Tony @ Dec 14, 2017 -> 02:28 AM) Clearly, by those quotes, the Front Office believes they basically have a year to recruit Machado to sign an extension. If they truly believe that, I could understand giving up some assets to make it happen. I get the idea, I just don't think it will work. They're trying to be too cute. Agreed completely. Sure you take him for a year if it costs you Spencer Adams and Basabe, but the price is going to be higher

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 14, 2017 -> 02:23 AM) Call me crazy, but I’d do Rutherford & an arm like Adams for Machado without an extension. Doesn’t seem like it would be enough, but maybe the Orioles are obsessed with Blake for some reason. What's the point in adding him for one year when you aren't trying to compete?
-
QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 14, 2017 -> 02:17 AM) I’m paraphrasing, because it’s behind a paywall, but he basically said it’s easier to sign a guy if he’s been around your culture and sometimes you need to take a risk. Thanks and ugh
-
QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 14, 2017 -> 02:12 AM) Look at Kenny’s quote after missing out on Ohtani and Hahn’s quotes with Fegan today. What would that be? Did read something about Hahn saying "dare to dream"
-
QUOTE (Tony @ Dec 14, 2017 -> 01:10 AM) I hope they learned their lesson with Samardzija (I know they were trying to compete that year, but it always seemed like they were sure they were going to get an extension done). Yep when everyone said he would never negotiate. Same thing we're hearing about Manny

QUOTE (Soxnfins @ Dec 14, 2017 -> 01:04 AM) You have a great point, Fathom. It is only one eyeball, after all.... WSD usually goes nuts with them. So we should expect 8 eyeballs later

Getting Machado for just this year is about the most pointless thing they could do
-
QUOTE (WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Dec 14, 2017 -> 01:00 AM) I'd guess there's a better chance this is about Abreu than Machado My opinion is he found out Sox actually put an offer in

QUOTE (Tony @ Dec 14, 2017 -> 01:55 AM) For December, I'm down for some crytic twitter entertainment, haha. Hell yeah, especially with not a lot of sports on this week

QUOTE (Tony @ Dec 14, 2017 -> 01:53 AM) lol. I legit was going to say all this fan base needs is a cryptic WSD tweet and then....boom

2017-2018 MLB player movement rumors and reports
fathom replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 13, 2017 -> 07:10 PM) That takes a potential Abreu player off of the table as I have to imagine a lot of their prospects are moving in that deal. Yep I bet Flaherty is involved. Rockies still seem the best fit to me -
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Dec 13, 2017 -> 05:25 PM) Hansen and Robert aren't untouchable for me but we have to be getting an absolute superstar back(especially for Alec) if we're trading them. Yelich is a very, very good player but he's not there. He's not a superstar but he's pretty damn consistent and fits into the contention window perfectly with his skill set and contract
-
QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Dec 13, 2017 -> 05:36 PM) I’m surprised by how willing people are to trade Cease. I personally think he’ll be better than Hansen Have a hard time seeing him hold up over 150 innings
-
QUOTE (steveno89 @ Dec 13, 2017 -> 05:16 PM) I like the aggressiveness, but it's too soon for the Sox to blow up the rebuild like that^ I agree with Hahn that we will have a much better idea how good our prospects are in nine months and can better assess organizational needs. That could be a package we really regret parting with if Hansen continues do build on a strong 2017, Cease improves his command of his already strong stuff and if Rutherford bounces back to show the tools scouts really liked making him a first round draft pick. Or you are getting good value before Cease loses any chance to be considered a starter and Rutherford loses trade value if he continues his hitting struggles. Also don't know how Marlins feel about Blake as they have some former Yanks executives over there now
-
Been thinking that if you really want to dream big about possible title contender in a few years, you could trade for Yelich now and then go after Machado next offseason. I wouldn't hesitate to see a package like Hansen, Cease and Rutherford for Yelich. Just to dream big, your 2019 lineup could be: - Yelich - Moncada - Machado - Abreu - Jimenez - Garcia - Castillo - Delmonico - Anderson
-
QUOTE (Knackattack @ Dec 13, 2017 -> 05:16 PM) Machado himself is unprecedented, you could sign him 10yr/320m and he would be 36 at the end of the deal. Pay him more the first few seasons when we have no payroll and offer him an opt out after 6 years. If the price is something like Anderson/Lopez/Fulmer/Dunning and you can get him to sign, you do it. That's far too much to give up for technically one year of him. I do like that package of prospects though to try and obtain a special player.
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 13, 2017 -> 05:05 PM) How many teams have spent $300 million on a free agent? Which makes the Machado and Harper free agencies unprecedented
-
Hahn never says anything definitive either way
-
QUOTE (Jack Parkman @ Dec 13, 2017 -> 01:08 AM) They were widely regarded as runners-up to Texas in the A-Rod sweepstakes in 2000. They offered 8/196. I remember that vividly, it isn't unprecedented. Machado and Harper will get way more than ARod
