It’s simple, there would be no reason for the Sox to broadcast they are going after Bryce. It would only give the Phillies reason to increase their bid and would set up the fan base to get pissed again if they missed out on him. I have no clue if they are interested in him, but I do know that if they wanted to create a false narrative that they’re out, Bob and Bruce are the two reporters they would leak to.

It’s obvious that the Rosenthal comment on Monday was someone alerting him to the fact JR had just met with Lozano. It could have easily been Lozano spreading that info to get the Padres to up theirs.

The simplest explanation is the Sox thought they were high bid and no one was offering 300. They were wrong and Lozano wasn’t bluffing. Instead of admitting to blowing it, KW brings up then 300 obstacle as a way to try and rationalize the error.
