Gillaspie/Davidson Future
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 22, 2014 -> 04:48 PM) This exactly. Unless we get a stupid offer for Gillaspie, he is the starting 3B until Davidson proves otherwise. Yep, the ideal situation is Gillaspie continues to hit well this year and Davidson puts up good numbers in AAA. From there, it gives you probably the 2nd best trade chip after Alexei. I don't think you go into next year with both in your organization though. For me, I think Gillaspie is a much better fit, due to his left-handed bat and his ability to make contact. To me, Davidson seems like he'd really struggle to make contact against the tough righties in the division.

QUOTE (bmags @ May 21, 2014 -> 03:18 AM) It was more the lack of bullpen warming up I was upset about. But Putnam warmed up very quickly. I thought he was going to leave frank in there forever like he has in and Few games. Agreed, and Hawk/Stone were stressing no one was warming up

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ May 21, 2014 -> 03:12 AM) I'm surprised you'd say this. I am not a Ventura advocate at all but when you have a 3-4 run lead and you used your 2 best guys 2 innings each last night who did you expect to pitch ? Downs and Francisco have to pitch when a lead is semi-comfortable. I'm fine with Downs starting that inning. However, once the rally started, I would have preferred Webb over FF

2014 Draft class
QUOTE (flavum @ May 21, 2014 -> 02:45 AM) At the very least, Hawk needs to say something like, "It's a risky pick, and not something I would do, but our guys (Hahn/Laumann, etc) love this kid and think he's going to be a good one." Something like that. He can't go all apes*** excited about a 17-year-old pitcher. If it's Aiken, I think he can talk about how he has 4 pitches and doesn't rely on his fastball. If it's Kolek, then it basically goes against everything he said.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 21, 2014 -> 02:33 AM) Hawk has been on the draft a baseball player kick for a while now. I think watching all these football players strikeout all the time got to him. Well, their two first round picks from 2012/2013 have been very toolsy offensive players that strike out a ton

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 21, 2014 -> 02:29 AM) I'd love to hear some of you people slam your employers publicly with some odd thousands of people listening. I have no problem with him not bashing the toolsy guys that have failed...just seemed odd they're being very critical of high school pitchers when it's very possible that's who they take with the #3 pick. We had heard those type of comments in the past by them though.

QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ May 21, 2014 -> 02:20 AM) He just said he doesn't care for drafting the "best athlete available", i.e. the toolsy player. Pretty much disagree with everything Hawk/Stone just said over the last 10 minutes, which probably means they're right.
