QUOTE (DirtySox @ May 2, 2014 -> 12:06 AM) No Hawkins it seems. Possible punishment for whatever caused him to get ejected last game?
  2. Johnson and Ravelo are putting up some insane numbers for Birmingham. Been fun to follow them the last 2-3 weeks.
  3. Why is Nestor Molina still on the 40 man? Just admit it was a horrible, horrible trade and send him on his way.
  4. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ May 1, 2014 -> 01:49 AM) Micah's OBP is over .450. IS THAT GOOD? .488 vs RHP
  5. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Apr 30, 2014 -> 09:20 PM) It's going to be interesting to see how they assemble the rotation over the next couple of years. Outside of Johnson, there's nothing in the minors. Do they sign a top free agent, slot him at #2, Q at #3 or take a longer-term approach by signing a FA at #3, deal for a top pitching prospect and pair that guy with who they take in the draft. My guess would be they go after a 3-4 type pitcher, as well as another lottery pick pitcher. With so few 1-2 pitchers on the market (Lester, Masterson, Scherzer, Shields), it's hard to picture the Sox outbidding all the major market teams that will be going after starters.
  6. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 30, 2014 -> 09:22 PM) I don't think many calculations can over come an injury to your #1 and #2 starters, and extreme suckage another. You simply can't afford to keep doing "bullpen games", as you're going to destroy your bullpen doing that. I absolutely don't believe Noesi was acquired with the thought of being a starter. Just seems to be inexcusable to not have something in mind for next week, as it's bad enough they got stuck with a game against the Tigers with one of the worst pitchers in baseball starting.
  7. QUOTE (flavum @ Apr 30, 2014 -> 09:15 PM) So who's starting next Tuesday at Wrigley? Hanson is supposed to start Friday, so probably not him. Better not be Noesi! If so, the Sox management made some bad calculations in scheduling the starters the last two weeks.
  8. Hopefully the Sox find a left-handed hitting LF for next year and move Viciedo to DH. I'm not a fan of going after VMart to DH this offseason, as that seems like too much of a win-now move.
  9. QUOTE (chw42 @ Apr 30, 2014 -> 09:39 PM) The worst hitter on the team is hitting second...makes a lot of sense. If he's still not hitting after this weekend, maybe they'll put Gillaspie into the 2nd spot when he returns?
  10. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Apr 30, 2014 -> 09:28 PM) I would love to see Victor Martinez take Dunn's spot next year. He would fit great in Sox lineup. Gonna be a lot of money to spend if you want him, especially given the other holes this team will have.
  11. Score...don't want to see a second shutout in 5 games.
  12. QUOTE (flavum @ Apr 30, 2014 -> 07:51 PM) Petricka has done a very good job this season. I agree, even though it was funny hearing Stone talk about how good he's been last night and then having to mention all the hits/walks he's allowed. I do think he's a keeper for this bullpen though, and a good 7th inning guy going forward.
  13. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Apr 30, 2014 -> 07:48 PM) I don't really know how upset you can get. He pitched great the first 3 innings. He's not a starter and he was not stretched out. If this was a "bullpen game" he did his job and RV should have pulled him the first signs of trouble in the 4th. If anything, I think this was a positive outing from him. If he can pitch well for 1-3 innings at a time, that is a significant upgrade to our current s***show of a bullpen I didn't articulate that post well...in a later post, I said I don't think there's a spot for him on the roster right now. However, given the roster situation, I believe the Sox should try to pass him through waivers.
  14. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Apr 30, 2014 -> 08:33 PM) Yes, very positive. I like him as a swing man with that sinker. Sounds funny, but it doesn't seem like they have room in the bullpen for him.
  15. 2 runners on in 3 of the 4 first innings...no runs. I believe that's 2 on in 5 of the last 7 with no runs, with some really bad at bats when those runners were in scoring position.
  16. QUOTE (JoshPR @ Apr 30, 2014 -> 08:32 PM) Old Tyler back Scherzer makes a lot of hitters look bad. However, Ventura has to be careful not to overuse Flowers. This has been a few times where he's played the day game after a night game.
  17. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 30, 2014 -> 07:22 PM) Pick one. Should Noesi be rewarded for the fact that he went 3 innings and then possibly tired out as you said in your first one or should he be released from the roster for giving up runs in the 4th inning when robin "left him out to die". Noesi's just not a good enough pitcher to store on your 40 man when you're already having issues creating room. However, after seeing him get hit hard all over the field in the 4th, it seems Ventura was one batter too late in getting him out while the deficit was still manageable. If you're going to have the bullpen day, you can't keep guys in when they're clearly gassed.
  18. Sox aren't getting any breaks with the starters they've had to face. Getting Verlander/Scherzer in 2 game series is terrible luck. Samardzija wasn't going to face the Sox next week, but the rain out on Monday means he'll be starting game 1 of that series.
  19. Noesi ended up allowing more runs that innings pitched...predictable. Sad thing is I'm sure they'll be stubborn and keep him on the roster.
  20. Oh yay, now Petricka's ni.
  21. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Apr 30, 2014 -> 08:12 PM) 4 to 0 Good thing at least these games vs Tigers aren't going to end up mattering much in the standings at the end of the year. Seems like there was some bad planning by the coaching staff this week.
  22. Ventura left him out to die...really awful managing once again if you're going to have a bullpen game.
  23. QUOTE (flavum @ Apr 30, 2014 -> 07:06 PM) Throwaway game. Should have won last night. Yep, that's what made it such a brutal loss. Good effort by Noesi, but time to get him out now as they are crushing him the second time through the order.
