  1. QUOTE (Baron @ Jan 17, 2014 -> 02:44 AM) There is so much Tanaka rumors right now....I wouldnt be surprised to see any of the teams mentioned to be interested sign him at this point. I would be stunned if it's not the Yanks, Dodgers or Cubs. Thing is, if the Cubs want to be dumb and give him something like 5/120....then I hope they get him.
  2. Lots of talk about the Cubs with Tanaka Follow Jayson StarkVerified account ‏@jaysonst In non-replay news, amazing how many owners in Ariz. were convinced #Cubs are ready to blow away the field & sign Tanaka to a monster deal.
  3. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Jan 16, 2014 -> 09:44 PM) Anyone think the proposals are not as great as they would like to see them. If the Yankees were dangling $150M out here do you not think that the deal would be closed by now. Why agree to any deal right now if you have the biggest markets in the game bidding after your guy? Also, who knows, maybe the Dodgers told his agent (Kershaw's guy as well) that they'd be able to talk specifics about Tanaka as soon as Kershaw's deal was done.
  4. Wasn't bovada right about the Texas coaching search?
  5. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 16, 2014 -> 04:12 PM) You look at the free agent list for next year, there isn't too much to be excited about. Could be a reason for the Sox and others to go a little higher than they feel comfortable. Another reason I think the Cubs might offer a ridiculous amount for Tanaka.
  6. QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Jan 16, 2014 -> 04:26 PM) Gotcha.. I'm sorry I don't believe the Cubs have a shot in hell. He may be right the Cubs I'm sure have BIG interest but nothing on that side of town could make pitching there for the next 7 years appealing. The cubs could certainly blow everyone else put of the water $ wise, and yes this kid could surprise me and go where the most $ is, but I don't see it. IMO this is posturing by theo to make sure their interest was reported so if and when they miss out he can say they did everything. That fanbase is losing patience if not lost it and have been expecting Tanaka since last season. I hope he's just trying to steer him away from us. And I'm not going to lie, the longer I go the less confident I get for the WS to sign him. But I just have the gut feeling we had a really good chance. KWs comments to the suntimes were telling a week or so ago, they met him, the $ is clearly there, and he fits PERFECTLY in what we are doing. I think people are completely underestimating the shot the Cubs have to get Tanaka. For all this talk about the Sox future being something that could attract him, I'm sure the Cubs are saying the same thing. Not only that, but supposedly Theo has a good working r'ship with Tanaka's former boss. With Tanaka's salary expected to be 20 mil/year, I absolutely do not want the Sox to sign him.
  7. QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Jan 16, 2014 -> 04:14 AM) Here's something to kill your erection: Brought up the name, "Tanaka," to 2 people at owners meetings this morning. They both had the same response: Beware of the Cubs. Per Jayson Stark: https://mobile.twitter.com/jaysonst/status/...525400283602944 Maybe it's good he's warming to Chicago. God knows why the hell he would want to pitch for the Cuba besides money. This isn't surprising at all. The Cubs are selling their future just as the Sox are I'm sure, and they have plenty of payroll remaining to offer him as much as other teams.
  8. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Jan 15, 2014 -> 10:41 PM) I say Dodgers, anything to make the cub rebuild from getting a trophy all that much harder. +1
  9. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jan 13, 2014 -> 02:33 AM) Seriously coaching staff, what the f***? Groce has never been known as a great regular season coach.
  10. Follow John SheaVerified account ‏@JohnSheaHey I hear Masahiro Tanaka's three preferred spots going in are LA, NY and Boston, so five teams
  11. QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Jan 10, 2014 -> 07:18 PM) I'm still optimistic, maybe this guy doesn't just want the $. Maybe he wants to be "The Guy" and can certaintly be that here. In the MLBTR update it quote their team president not to predict him to land with LA on a radio show and now this???. This could all be desperation. Although Nightengale is usually damn good and spot on, the winds out of the sail, but I still say we have a chance. Those three don't take that trip if they hadn't been in contact with his agent and believed they had a shot with a good pitch. That coupled with Rocks update with the Accounting Geeks coming together, if we can offer a competitive offer in terms of dollars who know what Hahn can work in the contract and what was said to sell him and separate the south side. But what about the rumor he wants to play on the west coast?
  12. QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 10, 2014 -> 08:13 PM) Wellp, it was fun while it lasted. I'm not upset...I actually think Garza makes more sense for the Sox. With that said, it wouldn't surprise me at all if in 3 years, the Sox are trying to trade for Tanaka if he disappoints the team he signs with (ie: Contreras)
  13. Bob NightengaleVerified account ‏@BNightengale The #Dodgers have let it be known they plan to go all-out in their efforts to sign Tanaka, saying they and certainly won't be out-bid.
  14. QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Jan 9, 2014 -> 10:44 PM) I'm guessing Tanaka signs with one of the DBacks, Sox, Nat's, Dodgers, Mariners. Just my uneducated guess is all. If I missed something or speculated wrong , feel free to point it because that's what discussions are for. I would put it in this order: 1- Yankees 2- Cubs 3- Mariners 4- Dodgers 5- Angels 6- Diamondbacks 7- Nationals 8- Phillies 9- White Sox
  15. Tate with 3 missed layups tonight
  16. QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 9, 2014 -> 04:19 AM) And our players were playing for themselves all night. What a joke. This team is same as last year, will continue to be a garbage watch. Clarkson buying into his NBA hype? From the parts I saw, it looked like he forgot he had teammates.
  17. QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 9, 2014 -> 03:11 AM) Missouri's about to lose at home to an embarrassingly bad Georgia team. Absolutely horrible loss. Stunning loss, UGa has been horrible this year. I know they were playing for their coach, who just lost his father.
  18. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jan 9, 2014 -> 03:04 AM) Different than any other team Bo has ever had. Nigel Hayes has incredible footwork for a frosh
  19. QUOTE (Jake @ Jan 9, 2014 -> 03:53 AM) Groce did not have this team ready to play. Also, Egwu sucks Wisconsin is just flat out better and way, way deeper. Tate has looked completely overmatched of late.
  20. Illinois has missed an insane amount of short shots.
  21. Congrats Frank! It's been fun tracking this the past few weeks.
  22. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jan 8, 2014 -> 05:03 PM) Is it too early to complain about the refs yet? At one point in the GT/Duke game last night, Duke had shot 24 free throws to GT's 2.
  23. QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 8, 2014 -> 05:05 PM) 27% from 3pt this year, looks like he's a good fit to replace E. Ross. Sheesh. Watching him last year, he seemed allergic to playing inside the 3 point line. He should be a solid player in Missouri's system if he's not asked to do too much.
  24. After watching the Michigan State game tonight, I still can't believe they turned D. Bryan heel.
