  1. I'd love to know who they're talking about here http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20...id=cws#55409750
  2. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Aug 2, 2013 -> 01:01 AM) Stranger things have happened, but that lineup doesn't even look remotely like a contender to me I'm pretty sure he recommended adding some veteran players to that lineup via free agency. If not, that's a 100 loss team with ease.
  3. Hawkins 0-2, 2k Anderson 0-2 as well
  4. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 1, 2013 -> 07:02 PM) If they are joking, fine, but the baseball draft is boring to many fans out there considering it takes 4 years for the players to even make the majors most times unless it's a college guy. Often the college guys flop. I'll be shocked if Rodon isn't in the majors within a year of getting drafted.
  5. Go Marlins! Up 3-0 on Harvey
  6. Snodgress with 2 ER in last 35.1 innings and only allowing 17 hits
  7. QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 1, 2013 -> 06:34 PM) Indians have 4-game sweeps of the Sox at home and in Chicago this season. 2014, we should be right back in this race
  8. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Aug 1, 2013 -> 06:19 PM) What was up with Chris today? Low velocity
  9. This is the perfect time to use Axelrod. Let him log innings the rest of this year when the team has no chance to win the game.
  10. QUOTE (TitoMB @ Aug 1, 2013 -> 06:57 PM) This may be the worst Sox team I've ever had the misfortune of following. And now, Rick Hahn comes out to say Robin Ventura's job is safe, despite being the second worst team in the AL (thanks for switching, Houston!) No other manager in baseball keeps their job if they're in Ventura's spot. The Marlins and Astros won't fire their managers, as everyone in the world knew they weren't trying this season. I have no idea what Ventura is/isn't at fault for, but when you see so many players underachieving and not hustling, something has to be terribly wrong in the clubhouse.
  11. Flowers is the gift that keeps on giving. Also, it's quite comical that De Aza is 2nd on this team in home runs.
  12. Any discussion on the broadcast of Sale only hitting above 91 mph with his fastball a few times today? Hopefully not an issue with anything physically.
  13. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Aug 1, 2013 -> 05:42 PM) Read between the lines. He knows that it is fairly evident that they will not be in a position to win next year. They should be better but they will not have the talent to win a division. I thought he was pretty clear about that. Yep, and it's 100% the right call
  14. QUOTE (Jake @ Aug 1, 2013 -> 05:37 PM) I did not get the message that we are trying to rebuild. As a matter of fact, I got the impression that that is the last thing he wants to happen. He isn't about to drop $50 million in free agency to make sure we compete, but he certainly wants to make this team good as quickly as possible. There is a reason he didn't mention the draft as part of our future, only mentioning that better drafting in the past couple years has already built up our system. There won't be any all-in next year, but I'd expect to see a new veteran or two around and a team that expects to finish better than last. He's going to try to get maximum value for our players and if that means Rios turns into young but good prospects, he's okay with that. He's going for as much Avisail Garcia type guys as possible and even suggested that Avisail has already begun to shorten our rebuilding window. He said he is fully willing to hold on to our veterans if we don't get fair deals because we can always go out and win next year. He also repeatedly talked about the pitching and how the rebuild is already partially done because of how good our pitching is. He's right about that. "It may well be 2014 is a season like this one where we got rid of Jake"....to me, that means it's absolutely a rebuild coming up.
  15. Great job by Ventura of pulling Sale...and no, not sarcasm
  16. It's hard to imagine that this is a team giving 100% effort out there. If it is, they are so far away from competing with the top clubs in the AL it's scary.
  17. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Aug 1, 2013 -> 05:22 PM) Add another Cy to the long list of Cy's. Just another RHP that Hahn better have a better prepared lineup to handle next year. A core lineup with 6 right-handed hitters has very little chance against Masterson.
  18. Getting time to pull Sale soon, as he didn't really show up today either. Don't worry Robin, the guys will perform better now that the deadline has passed.
  19. 30 innings, 2 runs allowed by Masterson this year vs the Sox.
  20. QUOTE (Jake @ Aug 1, 2013 -> 06:05 PM) Yeah, I really hope he turns into a valuable major leaguer. He really seems like one of the higher floor guys in the entire system right now. With regards to position players, he's the only one with a high floor in the system, IMO
  21. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Aug 1, 2013 -> 05:01 PM) I need to see that cutter that is supposedly damn good. I was very impressed with his curve and his fastball is good enough but he needs a quality 3rd pitch to be a starter. I saw it in the Futures Game and was blown away by it.
  22. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Aug 1, 2013 -> 04:54 PM) Fire Manto! Not a chance in hell he should be brought back next season.
  23. QUOTE (Jake @ Aug 1, 2013 -> 04:50 PM) That is one of the most softly hit homers I'v ever seen Sale's not exactly sharp out there today. Hopefully they give him a breather and pull him around the 90 pitch mark.
  24. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Aug 1, 2013 -> 04:23 PM) I agree. I dont think there is any reason to dump contracts for no return, its not like the org is strapped for cash and replacing those players production in free agency isn't going to provide any real savings and will probably be more expensive. It is a good time for the Sox to start throwing waiver claims out with the money freed up in the Peavy deal. Cause let's face it, Hahn's explanation for how they're going to use the savings is a bunch of BS given the new spending caps on amateur players.
