  1. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 07:26 PM) If the long term plan is not to keep Alexei...he might well have a role then next year fitting in alongside Semien. In my opinion, the sooner people get comfortable with the fact the Sox won't compete next year, the easier it is to take these recent moves. Despite what Hahn has said, this is a pure rebuild.
  2. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 07:25 PM) The $1M going to the Rangers tells me it isn't quite a salary dump. I wouldn't pay $1M for some run of the mil prospect. Only way I'm doing that is if I get someone with some upside. Garcia very well could fit that bill depending on what the White Sox think his upside is (maybe they think his bat would grow and that he can play at short...I don't know). At this point, it seems 90% likely it's Garcia.
  3. There's 1 off of Danks...21 in 91 innings
  4. QUOTE (103 mph screwball @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 06:23 PM) It has to be him. He just can't be anounced since he has to pass through waivers. Heyman let the cat out of the bag. I think there is more to this than just a money dump. I think the Sox are looking for a change in the club house. By that, I mean they will go young with players that display a better attitude and are more focused. I expect Dunn, De Aza, and Ramirez gone before next April. 110 losses, here we come!
  5. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 07:21 PM) If it is Garcia, it actually does sorta make sense, he's a guy who could fit into the Sox right away, he's on Texas's roster right now so he can't be traded, he does have some tools, he's very young, and hopefully he helps out next year's bench a ton. I could live with that. And like someone said a few minutes ago, we found someone to take Rios and his entire contract minus $1 million. It's definitely a salary dump of a player that the organization seems to hate now.
  6. QUOTE (Jose Paniagua @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 07:14 PM) The trade deadline kind of proved that he wasnt worth good prospects+salary relief. So we got the salary relief here in the post deadline deal. To me that makes perfect sense. Well said
  7. Oh great, I'm sure Theo will get a better PTBNL from them
  8. QUOTE (ron883 @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 07:06 PM) Wow... The sox have a LOT of money to spend. I wonder if theyll go for Jacoby while his value is low. Ellsbury's value is low? He's having a great season.
  9. QUOTE (lord chas @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 06:05 PM) Like it. Gives the Sox so many options for next year Completely agree, and I'm not so sure with Rios' reputation that he was ever going to get a big haul in return.
  10. wow, very nice!
  11. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 04:44 PM) He either showed up late, is sick or hurt. I'm sure his thumb is still bugging him.
  12. QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 8, 2013 -> 08:59 PM) Hey Fathom...told you Stone knew... Yep, he made it so clear something was up. That's why I'd be surprised if Rios is on the Sox come Saturday.
  13. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 8, 2013 -> 08:45 PM) Yes he is. One of the more overrated pitchers in all of baseball
  14. Just an incredible job by Stoltz
  15. Just remember, the Rangers thought Cruz was going to appeal his suspension, so it's very possible they claimed Rios and are now much more desperate to get him than they were at the deadline (Sorry if someone posted this already)
  16. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 8, 2013 -> 08:27 PM) They are already playing for next year... that doesn't mean it makes sense to bench any of those guys. Think this through: --How much value does it get the Sox to play Garcia an extra 3 weeks on this team? Instead of waiting until roster expansion? Little to none. --De Aza is hitting, they may want to trade him this offseason, so they want him to keep playing. --Rios the same, but more so - they want him showing value for the rest of August, if he is here. --Viciedo is key to the team's future, so they surely won't want to bench him while he is a developing 24 year old. --Konerko is either in his retirement year or going into free agency. Either way, he wants to play, and they will respect that. --Dunn is part of next year OR offseason trade bait OR waiver bait right now. IN any case, you want him playing. He's also hitting a ton. That's a scary thought. I also don't think Konerko is going to be playing every game the rest of the way due to his back. As it stands right now, the Sox have no reason to trade De Aza after this year.
  17. QUOTE (Dunt @ Aug 8, 2013 -> 08:24 PM) Is there any way they can trade Dayan for something? Anything? My uneducated opinion is Viciedo will get traded for a set-up man this offseason who has the potential to become a closer.
  18. QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Aug 8, 2013 -> 08:22 PM) Nah. Sign Ellsbury and I'll be a very happen man. Tank to 1st, outfield of De Aza, Ellsbury, Garcia. I'm sure the chance of the White Sox getting Ellsbury is probably 1%, but I'd be on board for an ADA/Ellsbury/Garcia outfield next year.
  19. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Aug 8, 2013 -> 07:21 PM) As much as I'd like to get Rios' contract off the books, I hope Hahn doesn't let him go for nothing. Something about him trying to obtain an exorbitant package for him in return a week ago only to be followed up with him essentially "giving up" and letting him go for nothing, makes me worry about how he may be perceived by other GMs in the future and if it could negatively affect him in trying to make deals in the future. From everything that was being reported the days leading up to the deadline, the prospects teams were offering for Rios were awful unless the Sox wanted to pick up money. The term "organization filler" was used.
  20. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 8, 2013 -> 08:19 PM) You are saying they are going to have some combo of De Aza, Rios, Viciedo, Dunn and Konerko spend extra time on the bench? I just can't see that. De Aza is hitting, they want Rios to keep showing value, Viciedo is still developing, and Dunn/Konerko are not going to be benched or platooned. Or they're truly going to start playing for next year and want Garcia to get time in CF and ADA in LF based on their plans going forward?
  21. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 8, 2013 -> 08:14 PM) Disagree, I don't see that happening. Then there's this... There is, CF
  22. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 8, 2013 -> 08:09 PM) One of the beat writers was suggesting that this opens a roster spot for Garcia. I really, really doubt they bring up Garcia to add to the current OF. I don't think he comes up unless/until Rios is gone or rosters expand in September, whichever comes first. I can't see them having Garcia or any of the three OF starters riding the bench. Sanchez coming up would be a surprise, he's not been hitting AAA pitching this season, though he's shown occasional signs of improvement in recent weeks. Tekotte makes some sense. It makes sense to call up Garcia, as they would play him in CF and move ADA to LF and then find playing time for 2/3 of Konerko/Dunn/Viciedo.
  23. I wonder if Carlos Sanchez is on his way up, as he was pulled from yesterday's game? Of course, he could have just gotten injured.
  24. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Aug 8, 2013 -> 04:17 AM) I was looking at Flowers on 3rd on the replay and even though he might've judged it to be very deep , I was surprised to see him halfway down the line towards home. I mean why ? It lands you walk home from 3rd and he catches it you tag up easy by just staying at 3rd. There were 2 outs
  25. Nice series for the Sox
