  1. After thinking about it a little more, McCann might be the best fit going forward as opposed to Ellsbury or Choo. What teams will even be in the market for catching?
  2. QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 10, 2013 -> 02:06 AM) You're obviously not going to be blowing up the whole pitching staff. But what if Viciedo and Phegley never pan out? What if Beckham and De Aza move on? The problem is you've got to get the pieces from somewhere, and that might take quite a few years...which means the odds of anyone we currently have being of any use at that time fairly low. The problem is that this team lacks serious star-caliber players on offense, even if everyone pans out. Gonna have to find some difference makers to add to this offense.
  3. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 07:57 PM) When's the last time a MLB team had a #3 hitter with 1 home run at this point in the season? HA...awesome
  4. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 07:26 PM) After today I genuinely think that Kendrys Morales absolutely has to be the #1 guy on their list. The fit is way, way, way too perfect. He fills our need as well as Rios fills the Rangers' need. I would have hesitated on that if Rios wasn't moved, because the Sox would have been carrying too many OF's and someone would have had to move to first, but with Rios out of the way, Morales just becomes a perfect fit for the 1b hole, and he can move to DH later in the contract if needbe. Where does Semien fit into your 2014 Sox plans?
  5. QUOTE (Mr. Showtime @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 07:24 PM) I hear you loud and clear. I feel like some fans think they are going to take all this money and just go on a spending spree this winter, I don't forsee that at all. The purpose of freeing up the money isn't to use it right away, having flexibility is very valuable. Agreed, maybe we can claim Rios next year when he's on waivers I do agree with you though
  6. As much as I mock Danks for his inability to keep the ball in the park, his peripherals besides HR allowed have been incredible.
  7. When "rooting" for the Sox to lose games, it's amazing how confident you are when Flowers is up.
  8. QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 07:11 PM) Why do the White Sox hate walks so? Let me present to you, Marcus Semien
  9. QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 08:00 PM) Does that mean L Garcia has to stay with the Rangers org until October? sure sounds like it
  10. When's the last time a MLB team had a #3 hitter with 1 home run at this point in the season?
  11. QUOTE (shipps @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 06:55 PM) LOL did you just refer to Rios as a great major leaguer. This team is not filled with a ton of assets and the average player like Rios sox fans over value because he may be the best on our roster sadly. Dont you think Hahn did all he could trying to find a team willing to give SOMETHING he liked in their minor leagues for Rios? Not to mention Rios has helped the Sox at all with his attitude. Just remember, at the deadline, it sounded like the Pirates wanted the Sox to pay a significant portion of Rios' contract while only giving them organization filler in return.
  12. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 06:53 PM) I'm jumping to justification mode already, but is there anybody that's really worth it for the Sox to sign this offseason? Cano would be awesome, but not at $23 mill over 8-10 years, because he's going to be a 1B at the end of that next contract. Really, the place you need to fill is CF. That's priority #1, 2, and 3 as far as I'm concerned. I'd love Ellsbury, as he'd be the perfect fit. However, it seems like that would be a huge long shot. Morales seems like a real good fit as well.
  13. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 06:49 PM) I think this was the inevietable conclusion. No one else in the AL was going to claim Rios. Texas claiming him was probably thinking the Sox would basically give him away for nothing. I also think Hahn knew if someone claimed Rios, he was going to be a goner no matter what. The Sox traded Carlos Quentin, a guy I would rather have for a few million less than Rios is making in the winter and got Simon Castro. Would paying Rios $4 million for the rest of this season just so you may have a shot at someone Castro-like make any sense? the writing was on the wall with Rios getting dealt once Stone started bashing him in public.
  14. Will they just go with Garcia batting 3rd out of the gate?
  15. QUOTE (Baron @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 07:45 PM) There is a limit to spending on international players unless you have us giving out a monster contract like the Phillies did. Exactly, so unless some international players over 23 (I believe that's the date) are going to become available, the amount Hahn can spend is limited.
  16. QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 07:43 PM) Sad thing is I think Reinsdorf didn't allow Hahn to put any money in these deals completely hog tied what he could do in trades. I don't disagree, and I would have liked for better returns as well.
  17. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 07:42 PM) Maybe internationally but I don't see them signing a big free agent. I think you just ruined everyone's day (besides Greg)
  18. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 07:42 PM) Maybe internationally but I don't see them signing a big free agent. You expecting a payroll of like 60 million then?
  19. QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 07:40 PM) Sox would have gotten a lot more if they would be willing to chip in some $$$ but not happening the one thing everyone on here will agree with is that Hahn better have a creative plan for using this money. His initial explanation after trading Peavy of saving money to spend on amateur players was a pretty silly explanation.
  20. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 06:28 PM) One other thing...I think you can find a bat in a corner spot easier then we think (potentially). Yep, like the Cubs signing Schierholtz for cheap.
  21. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 07:34 PM) All these tweets keep mentioning Garcia, and I'm so confused as to which one it is. One of them will be in Chicago ready for game 2 according to Hahn. Has to be Avisail
  22. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 07:33 PM) I'll go on record that our new RFer (Garcia) out produces Rios next season. Any indication on whether or not the Sox will be big spenders this offseason?
  23. I wonder if Granderson has started mapping his drive to the Cell next year
  24. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 06:28 PM) This was the move that makes it a complete rebuild. This is the first move made that actually hurts the Sox significantly next year. I couldn't agree more
