QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 17, 2013 -> 02:50 AM) I've been thinking the same thing. I doubt they do it. If this score stays the same, they'll give it to Rivera

Rios, $1M traded to Rangers
QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jul 16, 2013 -> 07:49 PM) I think Perez is probably the centerpiece of Garza deal with the Rangers. I can't imagine them doing that. It sounds like Cubs are trying to get Neftali Feliz instead (Tom Loxas reporting). If they get Feliz and Olt for Garza, that's an amazing trade for the Cubs. Since when is Garza this great pitcher??

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 16, 2013 -> 02:45 PM) How would people feel about that as a Peavy return? Would that even be a possible Peavy return? Depends on the pitching prospect in return, but I've seen some stats on Olt since his eye surgery and he's been crushing the ball. He would automatically be the best prospect the Sox have.

This is from the baseball prospectus daily minor league report: Courtney Hawkins, CF, White Sox (High-A Winston-Salem): 1-5, R, 3 K. I just got a pessimistic report on Hawkins from someone I trust in the industry: “I’m not sure he [Hawkins] makes it to and/or out of Double-A.” That is very worrisome.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jul 15, 2013 -> 11:52 PM) Lol...another Hawkins strikeout. I still believe there has to be some crazy explanation for this other than he simply sucks. His K rate wasn't that bad last year, it makes no sense to me how it's gotten this bad. Just so f***ing bizarre. I still encourage everyone to watch his highlight videos on milb.com. Some of the worst balance at the plate I've ever seen from a professional baseball player.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 15, 2013 -> 11:50 PM) Hawkins with the whiff....now has fanned 14 times his last 18 AB. The fact that this is not improving has to be a concern to the White Sox. Not only is he striking out a ton, but he's not hitting homers at the rate he had been.

QUOTE (Bruce_Blixton @ Jul 15, 2013 -> 04:49 AM) I have to echo this sentiment, posters have been too hard on Hawkins this year and have unfairly scrutinized him. I really enjoy visiting Soxtalk and following the minor league action, this community is by far the most knowledgeable about the team's minor league system so I really value everyone's input in the game threads. I feel like I gain a very good understanding of the players within our system but also the system as a whole, the good with the bad. Unfortunately the current trend seems to be to keep a running count of Hawkins' strikeouts and mental errors and not in a constructive manner but a very sardonic, cynical tone. My question is, what's the point of being so cynical and pessimistic? What do you have to gain by scrutinizing a player's performance to the point of not allowing anyone else to have a shred of optimism for that player? Is it some type of Borchard hangover? This isn't a personal attack against any particular poster but rather a deeper, philosophical question on how to view the players in our minor league system. Also regarding Hawkins' troubles this season, can you imagine if you were a Royals fan right now? Bubba Starling, who at one point was compared to Mickey f***ing Mantle is barely hitting above the Mendoza line in the Sally league, so let's cut Hawkins a little slack for struggling. He still has the most talent and best physical tools in our system, let's give him a couple of years (or at least one full season in professional ball!) before we write him off. Sorry for the rant. This is a great post, and I don't think those that talk negatively about Hawkins' K rate have a hatred for him. I think it's more that most, if not all, want the organization to step in and either send him down to Kanny or Instructional League. I don't care about any of the twitter stuff...but of course, I'm a Johnny Manziel fan also.- Official Squared Circle Thread

QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 14, 2013 -> 10:37 PM) Given how we've performed below our talent so far, it wouldn't shock me if we begin to perform over it with some new faces around Disagree, as you're going to see more AAA/AAAA caliber players on the roster taking the spot of the veterans (ie: Troncoso and Purcey for Thornton)- 7/14 at Phillies
QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 14, 2013 -> 10:31 PM) The reward for moving up a few spots in the draft order isn't worth compromising your franchise over I don't think they'll intentionally make moves to end up with a worse record. However, based on the moves they are likely to make (Peavy/Crain/Lindstrom), it's quite possible the team will be so bad that they'll end up with 100 losses.- 7/14 at Phillies
QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 14, 2013 -> 09:17 PM) Dan Hayes saying Phegley is getting x-rays on his finger, but it doesn't look good. No further updates are expected today.
