  1. QUOTE (bbilek1 @ May 29, 2013 -> 07:43 PM) DeJesus would have been out by three steps. Dunn was much better defensively at 1B last year than he's been this season.
  2. QUOTE (Jake @ May 29, 2013 -> 06:41 PM) Everyone should have known the plan before the play started. They had to have been planning for two outs rather than one run in the first inning. Sox continue to look like they've never been coached a day in their life. Then, you get a lineup like this one today that is just awful defensively at 1b, 2b, C, LF and CF.
  3. This offense is dreadful right now.
  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 29, 2013 -> 02:18 AM) Pretty much no one knew who he was until this May. Which is why if he eventually gets called up and doesn't succeed, it's not a huge blow to the organization since he's been such a huge surprise this season. A month ago, we were all asking how would the Sox find a catcher for next season and his name was never mentioned.
  5. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ May 29, 2013 -> 02:15 AM) I forget, what is the criteria for the makeup vs. Resumed game? Basically, this game never happened. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
  6. QUOTE (flavum @ May 29, 2013 -> 03:10 AM) POSTPONED. No makeup date. Yay
  7. Looking at the radar, it's hard to imagine this game resuming.
  8. QUOTE (flavum @ May 29, 2013 -> 02:53 AM) One hour right now. Lots of standing water, and a couple more hours of rain coming. http://instagram.com/p/Z4LWNbPr5m/# So you're thinking they call it?
  9. Just got home, how long has this been in a rain delay?

  11. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ May 28, 2013 -> 10:19 PM) Yet you proposed making him our starting shortstop. Didn't marty simply said that if you're giving up on the season and trading Alexei/Peavy/Crain/Rios, then just put Keppinger at SS to finish out the year? That's not a crazy statement, even though he'd be a disaster at SS and I'm sure marty would be the first to admit that. Hell, I suggested putting Beckham at SS for a trial run if the trade scenario mentioned in the first sentence takes place, and this was before they put him at SS in AAA.
  12. Lefties have hit Jackson much better than righties this year, so of course, that means Greene is playing 2b for Keppinger and Flowers is starting at catcher.
  13. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ May 28, 2013 -> 08:31 PM) I think fans view this season as not trying to win. Resigning players, getting involved more in free agency is usually a baseball fan's definition of trying to win. They've done this in the past and seem to fail at it lately. The actions this offseason definitely were not of an organization in win-now mode, in my opinion.
  14. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 28, 2013 -> 06:02 PM) Obviously. But I think everyone was fine with him as a back up. I don't know what happened defensively, my theory is he's not catching Peavy half his playing time, but he's been about as bad as his reputation when he was acquired. If he can get back to where he was defensively last year, he is a good back up who may go on a roll with power every now and then. You know my belief that Flowers ceiling was as a platoon catcher due to his inability to hit RHP. Facing numerous tough RHP during a season (from which he was protected due to having AJ on the team) was almost guaranteed to lower what was already a mediocre batting average. If you put him on a team with someone like John Jaso, you have a good platoon situation. I don't think Phegley and Flowers would be a successful tandem. Like it or not, if you're going to want to be successful in the AL Central, you're going to have to have hitters that can be productive against tough righties like Verlander, Scherzer, Garcia, Masterson and Fister.
  15. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 28, 2013 -> 05:56 PM) The funny thing is, Flowers is only 2 good games from meeting his offensive numbers last season while making more contact. But his defense has been significantly worse, and I still worry about him being a complete liability when having to face the powerhouse Tigers rotation for probably 14-15 games.
  16. As for Nate Jones, I definitely feel like he has a future with this organization as a righty set-up man. With that said, he's really struggled so far this year and seems like he could use a stint in AAA to improve his mechanics and command. His role with this Sox this year has fluctuated, as he's really struggled going multiple innings. Put him in Charlotte and let him work as a closer and try to groom him to replace Crain. Troncoso is decent enough to pitch in the majors, as he's better than Heath is.
  17. How's this for a hypothetical situation: - Flowers' miserable season continues, as he bats under .200 for the season and struggles mightily behind the plate - Phegley puts up an OPS around 1 in AAA for the full season Do the White Sox go into next year with a catching tandem of Phegley and Gimenez again, or does Phegley become the back-up and a starting catcher is acquired via trade or free agency? Something you really don't want to see happen is a repeat of what's happened so far this year behind the plate during next season with an inexperienced catcher being thrown into the starting spot with an inexperienced catcher at the back-up. Of course, if the Sox go into a full rebuilding mode, then who cares about how inexperienced they are.
  18. I like the location of his fastball in this video from milb http://www.milb.com/multimedia/vpp.jsp?con...21&sid=milb
  19. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 28, 2013 -> 04:28 AM) Some might think that promoting Phegley will automatically bring with it better results. There is ton of inside information we aren't privy to in terms of the personnel decisions going on behind the scenes. Surely, it's an everyday conversation between the AAA coaching staff and the Chicago brain-trust about Phegley vs. Flowers. There are specific things that are being looked at, measured, analyzed. You're making it too complicated. This was the year they wanted to see if Flowers could be a full-time starter. They're not going to give up on giving him a shot after 2 months.
  20. QUOTE (DirtySox @ May 28, 2013 -> 04:06 AM) This. Dude doesn't have much of a track record. Let's see if he can continue to hit. He's not going to be wowing anyone defensively (not that Flowers is). Be patient. Phegley could be a nice surprise, but he's not the White Sox savior this year. They are going to give Flowers some more time in a down year, as they should. Yep, make Flowers earn his spot on the roster for next year. I feel like we go over this every week, but the Sox made the decision in the offseason to give Flowers the starting spot while not investing in a quality back-up. It was a risky decision given his track record of mediocre batting average, but no one thought his defense would be this bad.
  21. Quintana/Flowers/Cooper have to find a way to get Quintana more effective the 3rd time thru the lineup. Definitely been a distubing trend with him so far this season.
  22. QUOTE (bbilek1 @ May 28, 2013 -> 02:09 AM) Positives of the day: Gillaspie improved his BA (1-3) Viciedo picked up a beautiful assist Omo threw two scoreless Attendance topped 30k for maybe the last time this season
  23. Who thought it would be a good idea for Flowers to play tonight? Hell, Viciedo against a righty with a 97 mph fastball and a splitter probably should have resulted in Wise starting. Oh well, need to win tomorrow's game.
  24. Excellent! Ventura did a great job of having a quick hook with Axelrod.
  25. Crain is just filthy right now
