  1. This is definitely one of those games where a 1-0 loss with Danks looking good would be preferred to a 10-9 win with Danks throwing 80 mph and looking awful.
  2. The latest BA mock draft has the Sox taking Alex Gonzalez from Oral Roberts.
  3. fathom replied to flavum's topic in FutureSox Board
Beck has got to improve on that K/BB ratio
  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 23, 2013 -> 09:57 PM) I remember when he was a rule V pick, and I went "who"? I remember when he entered a game against the Nationals and I went "who"?
  5. Jonathan Gray with a 3 hit, 12K shutout vs Baylor today. He really should be the #1 pick.
  6. placed on waiver...what a legacy he left here https://twitter.com/JonHeymanCBS/status/337658604561784832
  7. The Brewers losing 10 straight games vs LHP while having a lineup loaded with quality right handed hitters is quite a strange statistic this year.
  8. I'm more than willing to see Jones given the time to break out of this slump. He could/should be a vital member of this bullpen the next few years.
  9. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 23, 2013 -> 05:06 PM) That's what AJ gave you that I always felt was underappreciated around here. He kept the back up in the dugout. If Flowers is winded right now, that's on him, and it's not because he was a back up. If he wants to use that as an excuse, it's proof he shouldn't be anything more than a back up. You would think if you were going to get your big chance, you would be in the best shape of your life, ready for anything. If he is "winded" now, it is only going to get worse. If that's an excuse, he obviously can't hack it. Yep, that's a pretty awful excuse by Flowers. Also if it's true, then shame on Ventura for not playing Gimenez more.
  10. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 23, 2013 -> 05:08 PM) Wasn't that the 2007 bullpen? Yes, and then Edwin Jackson
  11. Hawk always talks about pitchers that have great velocity but struggle because everything is hard, hard, hard (TWSS). Anyways, Jones would be wise to start using his curve or change-up again more to get some offspeed stuff in the mind of the hitters.
  12. Pressey supposedly looked really bad at a workout yesterday. As for Shabazz, I'd rather have Caldwell-Pope. Shabazz reminds me so much of Xavier Henry.
  13. West having a nightmare overtime performance
  14. QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ May 23, 2013 -> 03:39 AM) We need to make the right moves. That's what our FO people are there for. They're supposed to have oodles and oodles of information on every player out there. There are supposed to be scouts out there doing work looking for our next SS, CF, RF, 1B, etc. There is some talent on the farm to trade, but a lot of the position players have holes in their swings big enough to drive a truck through, so how about trading some MLB pieces? We should I think. We should have done that over the offseason. And we don't need sexy names, we just need results. Look for another Uribe (cost Aaron Miles), look for another buy low/fallen out of favor type like Floyd was, etc. We can do all of that if our people are doing their jobs. We just need to identify the players, make the moves, and we need to get cracking on this s*** because deals take time to get done, and after the deadline you've only got 2 months worth of audition time to help you make decisions over the winter. Can't be sitting around with our thumbs up our asses wondering if we're a contender or not. JMO. Good post, and I agree. It's one of the reasons I've advocated for using Alexei as a trade chip. The Sox did a great job of unloading Santos when they did, it's just too bad they overvalued Molina.
  15. QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ May 23, 2013 -> 04:27 AM) They will have their payroll and they will probably meet it or come to it because they won't go full tank job, yes. But that's not the point I'm trying to make. My point is that money/payroll room is just one tool, one way of acquiring talent. The Sox need to add several more pieces, each of which will have to be under control for several seasons. Now the argument here (I think) is something like the fans are, or should be, in some way responsible for the Sox not spending more money. ??? They don't need to spend more money, they need to pull more Quintanas and Gillaspies out of other organizations and bring up more Santiagos and so on out of their own. I'm not sure why anyone thinks or would think that he Sox will be better off spending more money in free agency or whatever. We'd just have more money on the books with less wiggle room, and I'm not sure how that helps us. I totally get the point you're making, it's just going to be very hard to build a successful organization that way given the horrible farm system the White Sox have.
  16. Konerko looked great tonight, very promising
  17. QUOTE (flavum @ May 23, 2013 -> 03:20 AM) Whether it be Santiago or Axelrod, the bullpen needs one of them. Actually both, but you know what I mean. They have to get rid of Veal, as it's very hard to imagine someone like Purcey performing worse.
  18. QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ May 23, 2013 -> 04:16 AM) Money has very little to do with it. Payroll has very little to do with it. The team needs talent to win, and it needs to win to bring in the fans. I'm still not sure what you're getting at. It's not *our* fault as fans that the team isn't very good, and I doubt anyone in the FO is dumb enough to think that the fans have put the organization in the spot it is in. And as a fan myself, I actually *don't* want to see the Sox spend more money anytime soon, because that's only going to create more problems. They're best at being a value team and a lot of the money they've given out recently has hurt them. Problem is the team's going to have to spend money to fill a lot of their holes this coming offseason. There's just nothing in the pipeline in the minors, outside of maybe Phegley/Johnson, that's going to be able to make an impact next year in the majors.
  19. This bullpen is in total shambles, as they're now 20th in the majors in bullpen ERA. They were in the top 5 just a few weeks ago.
  20. 21,298 in attendance...that's brutal
  21. QUOTE (Jake @ May 23, 2013 -> 03:12 AM) This should decisively end Veal's run as a White Sox He's flying out of his wind-up, which is causing everything to stay to his left.
  22. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 23, 2013 -> 03:09 AM) If they thought it was the right move, they'd pull the plug on Flowers and Gimenez. That they haven't yet shows there are some serious organizational questions about Phegley's defense. I disagree. Two thoughts on why: - they thought enough of Flowers' potential to give him a chance at being a full-time starter, so they think it's too early to give up on him in a year where they might be looking to unload at the deadline - if they make the move now, they open themselves up for criticism about letting AJ go
  23. QUOTE (Jake @ May 23, 2013 -> 03:08 AM) This should be a good trial run for Veal. His release if freaking awful.
  24. QUOTE (Baron @ May 23, 2013 -> 04:03 AM) Nate Jones is just freakin bad and thats all I have to say about that. I still believe he could be effective if he just pitches in one inning.
  25. Hawk must have missed that meatballs Flowers, Konerko and Viciedo had tonight. Buchholz was good but definitely vulnerable tonight, especially with Sox getting men on to leadoff the inning.
